I'm about to boycott the Holidays. My family is driving me F-ing CRAZY with the jealousy of who's spending time with who at who's house, who's bringing what, who'll be drunk, who'll be argumentative, etc. etc. I swear, every year I tell myself NEXT year I'm going to the East Coast to take a little holiday vacation and screw everyone else. Don't get me wrong, I know what the true meaning of Christmas is and everything, but it's the family crap that drives me nuts! This is supposed to be FUN! Why does everyone have to get so wierd???!!!!
I know I'm not the only one going through this, and I know some of this annoying family stuff is common, but I hate it because it's a problem that can be so simply controlled with a little patience and understanding among family members, you know? It's really stupid. :distress:

It feels really poopy right now, but when you are sitting with your family exchanging gifts, laughing, and talking it will all be worth it....It is for me every year.:)

Why do people go crazy at Christmas? Because they're f'ing stressed out of their minds that's why!!

I hate Christmas--too much hustle-bustle-bull**** consumerism for my taste. I do like New Year's though, now THAT'S a holiday!

I love this time of year, but I have begun to dread christmas a bit - guilt trips from family, and anxiety over gifts. I think it all boils down to too many expectations. Many people want to get and receive the pefect gifts, and they are trying to create that pefect greeting card holiday moment. The magic, of course happens in between those times (IMO) so I am trying to remain open and looking for those moments.

~JamieNO I hear you. I've had to learn to watch my money VERY carefully this year, and I buy what I can afford to and not worry about how much it costs. It's worked pretty well so far.:)

My clients and their realtors are acting completely bat**** right now, which in turn is making me (and everyone else around me) crazy. this is definitely not the way to get things done.

Yeah, and speaking of work, for some uknown reason all these projects are coming down the pike now...a day before my weeklong holiday vacation! It's like, let's just wait until after the 1st people, I do NOT have the energy (or interest []) for this right now!.

I hear you. I have been SO busy. I was talking to one of our project leads about how we didn't slow down this season. He said we have but I haven't. Apparently all my books are driven by procrastinators.

I've tried not to get nuts this year and nearly succeeded. Then Mufy got sick and I lost a few days. But 2 of my big family parties are over so I'm feeling much less overwhelmed. Doing most of my shopping online helped ALOT. I get very stressed running around in crowds and such. It is nice to be able to avoid that!

I know. I hear there are families out there that function rather well. Not mine! Haha. My immediate family is pretty good, its those damn aunts and uncles. But I love them all so I keep subjecting myself to them! Haha. Actually, this year everyone pretty much behaved.

Boston is great. It is just breathtaking here at Christmastime. I wish they would leave everything up until May. It gets so depressing when it all comes down and it is cold as hell!

Yeah, it's got it's perks I guess. But I think I'm more of a 4 season person (although I've never been exposed to it) The forecast for the next 5 days here is going to be the mid-70s. I want it to be Christmasy-cold! It was cool a few weeks ago, in the mid 60s as a high, with 30s at night-time. THAT'S the kind of Christmas weather I want.

No ****! Who to invite, who not to invite? Who's fighting with whom this year? If I go visit them, well then I better visit them also, because otherwise I will hear about it till next Christmas. Ugh! No more!

This year, since I am working both Christmas days and only really have Christmas Eve, I've decided to only invite my closest family and friends, which is a nice group of 8 people. We are going to do a fondue, which is delicious and doesn't take up much preparation, so I can lounge around in my house wear all day until dinner time and make something out of my only day off. And to top that, we drew names and are making something special for that specific person this year, because it's been a special year.

But hey, bring on New Year's, then I am all ready to blast the crap out of stuff! I love New Year's! :]

I totally agree. Many people forget that Christmastime is a time of pain and hurt for a lot of people, not a time of joy.

I know, compared to 18. It was 22 in the morning though. I was just pointing out that it is so much colder than 60!

I'm right there with ya!

This year it hasn't been to bad (yet). Anxiety is up only a little...I always used to worry what to get everyone. This year it came to me pretty easy.

Christmas expenses and property taxes can sure hurt the pocketbook this time of year. It stresses me out, but it's all worth it in the end.

my advice -
rent a house in northern california with your loved one -

see family during the summer.

christmas is too insane - it's better low-key without all the stress.

Yeah, if you can find a rental that doesn't cost an astronomical amount of money.

I sure haven't found one. Regular one bedroom apartments are like $900 a month in my town!

On the subject...

I? Still love Christmas. I enjoy looking for gifts for people and wrapping them up all pretty. I love that it is one of the few times of the year when my friends and I get our **** together long enough to get together and laugh and have a good time. (Even if we don't get started until 11:30 p.m. on a night when I have to be at work early the next morning. Did that last night. It was nearly 3:00 a.m. when I got home.)
