Franz Ferdinand - Live
Of course I've asked for this, too. I'm pretty sure my sis is getting it for me.
On a side note, everyone that I have played the new FF CD for has fallen in love with it and are hardcore fans now. There's no denying how great they are!

I got The 40 Year Old Virgin DVD at Circuit City this past Friday. It was only $13.99 and it was literally fying off of the shelves. That was the only one that I wanted. I do want to get the other Seinfeld DVDs but I never even watch the ones that I have.

They're fukcing awesome. You won't be disappointed with the DVD set, it's got so much stuff on it that it'll take you forever to get through it all.
AND - they start recording their new album right after the holidays. They sure aren't slackers, that's for damned sure.

No new tour? :distress:
I mean, sure, they just got off a mamouth tour, but they should've saved some more American shows to promote the new(er) album.
Nevertheless, I am quite pleased that they will start recording again. Unlike someone else...

Isn't it hysterical? I made a Franz mix CD with it. It's so much fun. You've got to love how they threw in Billy Idol's "White Wedding" at the end of it. If I can find the single, I'll try to rip "Sexy Boy."
Speaking of Franz, I didn't know that Alex Kapranos was going out with Eleanor from The Fiery Furnaces.
I read about it early last year in an issue of NME with them on the cover, I believe. He wouldn't come straight out and say that "Eleanor Put Your Boots Back On" was about her, though.
It took me forever to get into Rehearsing My Choir from them. I'm quite fond of it now, but when I got it in October, all I could do was go "What the fuhhhhhhhhh...?"

I've only got Blueberry Boat by The Fiery Furnaces. I haven't listened to it in ages but I did like it at the time.
Blueberry Boat is good, but my favorite album is Gallowsbird's Bark. Every song on that one is great.
Is Sexy Boy a cover of the Air song?
Yup. It's quite different from anything they've done and I dig it. I put it on a mix CD next to "Shopping For Blood" and it sounds fab.

Gilmore Girls Season 2 (yes, I'm very behind)
LB's Soundstage
Scrubs Season 1 or 2
I have to ask you guys that "collect" DVDs - why? Realistically, I almost never like a movie enough to watch it more than once or twice. Sure, I have a few faves, but not too many. And TV? I barely have enough time to watch what's on now, let alone shows I liked 20 years ago. That being said, if they EVER release China Beach on DVD, I'll be the first in line. ;)
I'm not putting anyone down or anything, I just don't get it. Please, someone help me understand. What is the point of paying for and collecting DVDs that you'll only watch once or twice? Why not just rent?

I don't really collect that many DVDs. I know that here in RI it is not that cheap to rent DVDs or at least it used to be. Sometimes you can get deals on the DVDs that really aren't much more then the cost of a rental. I am awful at actually watching the DVDs when I do rent them. If I buy it I can watch it anytime that I want. I have quite a few that I have never even opened yet. That is just me. Now that I am typing this I think that I will watch a DVD tonight since it is my night off.

I only buy movies that I KNOW I love. And, I'll watch those 2-3 times a year.
There's a pawn shop in town, that I'll stop by about once a month. They have used DVDs, for $5 each, or 5 for $20. And they have ALOT of new titles. Probably two thirds of my DVDs came from the pawn shop.
It's near the bad part of town. Po folks need crack money, and trade in their DVDs....

I collect them because I watch them more than once. If I think a movie is funny or scary Ill bring it to my friends house so we can all enjoy. Since I am a teenager me and friends and family do watch movies often. I guess you could compare me buying movies with some women and their incessant need for up to date and new clothing. Its another hobby IMO.

Movie buffs will watch a film over and over. I would never buy a DVD just to watch it once personally.
As for TV, I watched all four seasons of Alias on DVD this year and loved it. Never understood it on TV but watching them all together back to back, got me hooked. Same with Lost and the Gilmore Girls. It's just a convenience thing. I hardly watch TV and hate adverts, so it's nice to see the best shows in their entirety on DVD. Older shows has to do with nostalgia: that market is huge. Watching old episodes of Dukes Of Hazzard or whatever brings back good memories for some I guess.
Sharon, I didn't know you were watching Alias! Isn't it great? Only not? It's NOT as much fun watching them all unfold badly on TV, but :) In celebration of your Alias viewing, I shall post a gratuitous picture of the sexiest blond British bad boy ubervillain ever.

I know what you mean about GG & other TV shows - I didn't get into GG until the 5th season or so, so I missed a lot & wanted to catch up. BUT - I don't know if I'll end up keeping them - I may end up selling each season on half.com & buying each consecutive season, then watching it & reselling it. I really don't see myself saying "oh, I really need to see that episode again" for most shows.

It may be that I'm getting more & more annoyed with wasting $$$ on stuff that I don't really "need" and bringing more & more sh*t into my house. :o Every time I contemplate making a purchase now, I think "do I really need this? Is it useful? Will I use it/watch it/listen to it more than once or twice?"

Omigod you're maturing! I've been hemorrhaging money these days. Bananarepublic.com being a huge drain but they have been having this fabulous sale this season! Now they have lots marked down plus after $125 you get 20% off your order. So I accidentally got some shoes, earrings, and a cashmere cardigan yesterday. You know, the necessities!
The series that I want on DVD is last season's 24. I did not get to watch a single one since it was on at the same time as a favorite show of my roommate's and its her bloody TV.

I'm a big advocate of Netflixing TV shows. Suze, you should just Netflix the 24 season.
I buy a RIDICULOUS amount of TV shows on DVD, but they're ones I am going to watch and repeatedly. I love tv shows on dvd for a few reasons... I'm a total homebody. I work two jobs, 65 hours a week, and so my downtime is spent at home. I love being able to pop in a disc or two of a show and watch it. I also am knitting pretty much constantly, and it's completely natural and normal for me to spend an entire Saturday or an entire weeknight in front of the TV, working on my projects. Just this Saturday, I watched probably three discs of Gilmore Girls Season 4 while finishing a scarf and starting and finishing a hat. Totally useless info.
Hayley, I have watched all four seasons back to back, can you believe? I absolutely love it. And I LOVE Sark. I was so thrilled when he popped up in season 4. I hope he'll be back again in season 5.
He's already done one episode and he's supposed to be on board for at least a few more! I love Sark so, so much. Merf and I are hardcore about Our Julian.
I've just fallen in love with the Gilmore Girls too, and it's all thanks to you! I've seen you raving about it and when I got sent the first season at work (it's just being released here in the UK) I thought I must see what the fuss is about. I've already requested the second season and I can't wait. I can't believe there are five more seasons of that for me to catch up on now!
Oh, I'm so glad. I think that's so great. The show is becoming so much more popular here in the States with the DVD releases. A lot of people are finally giving it a chance. There's so much to love. It's so well acted, so well written, so funny. The townies are great, I want to marry Luke and have flannel onesies-clad babies, etc. It's smart, the music is so great, and it's got something for everyone. In one of the last episodes of this season before they went on hiatus, they revolved pretty much the entire show, including the episode title, around jokes about Dig! and Brian Jonestown Massacre. I mean, like 1 in a 100 people watching the show would get that. But it was so cool.

Hee. My mom had never seen it until Christmas last year, when I asked for Season 3 and had brought Season 1 & 2 because I knew she'd love it. We sat there together and watched them in like a week, crying and laughing the whole time. She even called me the other day to tell me she'd had a dream about Michel!!

Nope. I work in a college health clinic, so I don't wear a uniform. Business casual. It makes it harder, in some ways. Most of the stuff I buy I have to think for a minute "wait, can I wear this to work?"

It will never end, there's no cure. :D
Seriously, I only buy movies that influenced me in some way, sometime in a very effectively, sometimes only because they make me feel the magic of cinema, and it can happen with a film of every genre, sometimes only for few scenes. Have you ever looked to your city, remembering a tilt accompanied by Bach's Air on G String, and Joseph Cotten in his wheelchair? ;). For the tv series it's more or less the same. It's like to have your favourite books in your library, it's reassuring enough to know they're there, and as Mr Arnaud says, "after a certain age, you read and reread always the same books".
