I just got back from seeing this movie and it really was a good movie. Great? No, but good. I think the camera work and the scenery was fantastic. Some of the acting was a little overdone. I had never really seen or noticed the whole "christian" themes running through the story, but in this movie it was very apparent, almost too apparent. All in all, it was very interesting and Tilda (the white witch) was awesome.

AND, the actor that played the role of Peter, the oldest brother, looks like a young Brad Pitt. I know that's probably illegal, but he is hawt.

I read these books in High School, which was over 25 years ago. I dont remember a thing about the plot. I only remember I enjoyed them. They were contemporary with Tolkien and I was so totally engrossed in the whole fantasy genre that I dont think I ever recovered!

Have you read the Summer Tree Trilogy by Guy Gavriel Kay?
its a MUST......
also the Avalon books by Marion Bradley Zimmer...
and even the Diana Gabaldon books, Butterfly in Amber, Outlander, etc...

I definitely will go to see it, C.S Lewis is an awesome writer, it's one of the few contemporary Christian authors I enjoy reading even if I prefer A Grief Observed (a masterpiece, IMO) to Narnia. By the way I can't wait to see Tilda Swinton in the role, she's such a gifted actress.

I wish Tilda had more scenes in the movie, but the last scene she's in is great.

Tilda Swinton rocks my world. She's made a good number of movies that have had immeasurable effects on me, most notably Derek Jarman's "Blue," "The War Zone," and "Orlando." A real treasure, she is.

I think I'll go see it after the crowds subside ,maybe at a late show on a weekday since sharing a theatre with alot of kids does not appeal to me.I agree it is probably a good but not great film.Peter Jackson kind of set the bar for this genre and I don't think this one matches up with LOTR.On the other hand from what I am seeing and hearing about King Kong it sounds the equal of these films. Can this man do no wrong? (The Frighteners notwithstanding).

I'll go see it when it's out here. Read the books probably twenty years ago, so I don't remember much about it either  No spoilers please!

(and another fantasy greatest: Ursula LeGuin's Earthsea trilogy)

Oh, I went through a phase of reading nothing _but_ Narnia books. Admittedly, it wasn't my longest phase, because I ran out of books and I did reread them a lot, but that got old... Anyway, I can't wait to see the film, but living in Carlow with our tiny, useless conema is not a good way to stay current with the movie world...

And I love the His Dark Materials Trilogy, by Philip Pullman. It's like anti-Narnia.

I don't go to the movies much because rude people always spoil it for me  , but I was going to go to this one. After reading this though and hearing from others that it isn't that great, forget it!
Thanks for the heads up!

Is The Amber Sypglass in that series? I remember really liking that book.

I recently (ok, like two years ago) re-read the Narnia books. They are atrocious. I can't believe I ever liked them.

Yeah, The Amber Spyglass is the third one in the trilogy. How did it make _any_ sense to you if you didn't read the other two? Or did you? They're Nothern Lights and The Subtle Knife.

Yeah, I'll probably think they're awful when I re-read them. I'm going to soon, I think, I love picking movies that are based on books apart after reading the book. That happened to me with Enid Blyton books. When I was about seven I read nothing but, and the one day, I'm like "She's sexist! And racist! And a complete nutter!"

Ok I've just seen this movie...and I'm a HUGE fan of the books...always have been. I wasn't blown away but I wasn't gravely disappointed either. I'll give it 3 stars (outta 5). The movie seemed...rushed. There was no history given behind the characters. Granted the book is short, but I think for the movie, history needs to be there to have a "grander" feel. It's well worth seeing...but nowhere near the way I felt after seeing Lord of the Rings. I'm anxious to see what they do with the other "Narnia" books.

on Sunday, and I did enjoy it. The faun and Lucy were my favorites. And the white witch was so delightfully wicked and evil. Move over wicked witch of the west.

However, I agree with mylittledemon that it seemed quite rush. I guess they were trying to avoid a 3 hour movie, although it worked for the Lord of the Rings. I liked it, but wanted a little more.

Still worth the $7.50 early bird special admission, but not the $8 for a cherry coke and a small bag of m&ms.

I saw it first day and I think Tilda Swinton should receive an oscar for her performance!

I agree that there should have been more history. I went with my brothers, who haven't read the books, and they said there wasn't enough character detail. I liked it for the most part though and thought it was pretty true to the book. Tilda Swinton was just deliciously evil too.

The next book they're doing is Prince Caspian (the only other one with all four Pevensie's.) Should be interesting.

By my estimation, Tilda should have won Academy Award's a few times over already. The fact that she's never even been nominated is a crying shame.
