Brazil as in the movie????
I am a nut for this film. Fantastic cinema, imo. Recently hubby got me the 3 DVD box set. Was supposed to be for Christmas but came in the mail and curiosity got the better of me. The big deal about this is the 220 min original cut vs. the 94 minute many, if not all of us who don't have the box set know as the film. I have yet to see the longer version, but hope to this weekend.
I even have this OOP book all about the struggle of Gilliams quest to get the uncut version out, but never read the book cause I didn't want all the extra stuff to be spoiled.
I did watch the 94m version to get reacquainted w/ it, but eagerly anticipating the full version. Any fans? Anyone know the 6 degrees of Stevie Nicks to the film????

WOW! Either no ones seen this or no one cares. BUUUUUUMER! lol.
OK, movie was made by Terry Gilliam of Monty Python fame, stars Jonathan Pryce, Robert Deniro, Bob Hoskins, and a list of other notable folk. Great sci-fi fantasy film that has been compared to Orwell's 1984. Granted it has a "big-brother" theme, but I don't think it can be compared to anything. It's a one of a kind film. If you liked any of Gilliams work, 12 Monkey's, Strange Days, Adventures of Baron Munchausen, etc, then Brazil is sure NOT to dissapoint. Be forwarned though, it is an odd movie. Not lots of special effects, and action. Not a lot of dialogue either, just a trippy thinkers film. It was made in 1985. Go rent it!!!! =0)

No, no, no... it's one of my favorite movies! I didn't realize there was a 3-disc boxed set... is this something new or are you talking about the Criterion Collection edition? I guess the Criterion edition would kind of be the definitive version, eh? I've always wanted it... but it's a bit pricey.

It's a fantastic movie, and Hollywood keeps robbing from it for every decent science fiction movie done in the last ten years. It shows Gilliams' talent to a height he hasn't reached again yet, even if he went pretty close to do it with The fisher King . It's visionary, romantic, dreamy, melanchonic, harmonic, extremely funny and it reflected at what absurd levels can arrive the government control on private lives, and the obsession for youth. Great movie! By the way, Gilliam admirers shouldn't miss Lost in La Mancha (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0308514/), it's a truly beautiful and hilarious documentary on his attempts to shoot a movie about Don Quixote. Luckily there are still bright dreamers like Mr. Gilliam in cinema business.

Yea it is the Criterion Edition. Yea, I am way back in "5 years ago land." LOL. I thought it was out of print, but I got it at DVDPlanet for $41.80! Kick ass. Some years ago I had seen it in store for $30! So it's not that unattainable. Criterion just kicks so much butt!!!!
As for the "Lost in LaMuncha," I have yet to see that, but I can be quite sure it's a must. OK, so some Brazil fans in the house. Don't feel like such a cinefreak. lol

I LOVE this movie. I have the Criterion box set as well and much prefer the Director's cut over the American "Happy Ending" release.
Just brilliant and a biting commentary on society and the future. Did you know it was part of a Gilliam trilogy? All loosley tied together:
Time Bandits
Brazil
Adventures of Baron Munchausen
I really can go on about Brazil. Anybody need the theme song on mp3?

I'd actually love to have the song on mp3, cause I have been humming it ever since the box arrived. Nicer to hear it for real, vs. my terrible humming. lol :o
PM me. Let's talk Brazil:blob1:

It's one of my all-time favourite movies - definitely top 5.
It's such a shame Hollywood doesn't understand Gilliam, even The Brothers Grimm suffered enormously because Miramax kept making him change things about the movie. I really hope he does get to complete Don Quixote one day.
