I used to download music from a site called Bear Share. It's been a long time since I've downloaded any music, and I was just curious which site you guys thought was best for that kind of thing.

Emule. No incomplete files, files with ghost file names *or* viruses. In my experience at least, and I have used it for years.

There are alot more corrupt files than there used to be. And, be careful what you keep in your shared folder. Adobe called my ISP last week, and issued me a warning, because I had a version of Photoshop in there, that I'd downloaded off of Kazaa. I also had a warning, a couple years ago, for having Donkey Kong in my shared folder.

I use limewire, usually the only corrupted files are those on incredibly popular songs. You can get it at www.limewire.com or I believe www.oldversion.com.

Limewire is pretty good. I used to use it. I use Acquisition (for Mac). NEVER had a problem with it and it always has everything, even rare files.

I'm using Morpheus because it's pretty fast and has a lot.

Sometimes when you download P2P software, you are also downloading spyware that you don't want. This website (http://www.spywareinfo.com/articles/p2p/)will tell you which programs are "clean".

Limewire is the best of the ones that I have tried.

Really? There isn't any kind of privacy issue in US that stops them from controlling your shared folder?

I still stick to Winmx, mainly, even if the patch after the block  made it slower. But there it's easier to find rarer music and bootlegs.

Okay, next question. I went ahead and did Bearshare again because I couldn't figure out Emule (I know, I'm an idiot). So anyway, I downloaded some Christmas songs, burned them to a CD and then uninstalled the program. The reason I uninstalled it is because I saw it in the "infected" file on that link posted by vermicious knid. I'm running AdAware and getting rid of all the spyware. Will that be enough or have I f*cked my computer by having Bearshare on it?

Not necessarily, it's not always easy to find all the spyware that comes from p2p programs. Just be sure I have both AdAware and Spybot (http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10401314.html?tag=lst-0-1) (it's free too) and something can always stay out, unfortunately.

Heh, I'm doing Spybot as we speak. The reason I'm all anal and paranoid about this is because my computer crashed last year and I went without for almost 6 months. We just got the whole thing fixed and I would be so mad at myself if I screwed it up downloading music. I'm doing Limewire- wish me luck. :wavey:

Good luck:thumbsup: . I tried it, it's pretty good. Since you're so cautious, it could be an idle question, but do you have a firewall on?

Uh, I think so. Serrart, I am really clueless in many ways on the computer. But yes, I think I do. Am I supposed to?

I think it helps a lot to block intrusions in the computer using these kinds of programs or connections with internet from eventual spyware. But if you're using Windows Xp there's one included, so probably it's already on. Personally I prefer Zonealarm (free and quite reliable). Even if you have to instruct it a bit, but it's very easy.
