The picture is cool, but some of the people's comments are really mean. :distress: Aside from the anti-Semetic comments, I hate how they say the girl couldn't possibly like Stevie Nicks and Don Henley. I would have loved having Stevie at my bat mitzvah three years ago. But not all Jews are that rich.

I don't think this is sad at ALL! Stevie provides a service, the guy met her asking price, it's THAT simple. Why is it such a bad thing that this woman WORKS for a living and is VERY successful at it??? It's a fun business transaction, everyone had fun and no one got hurt.
By the way, I've just learned that an "average" Bar Mitzvah costs about $40,000 - this is a REALLY big deal - so it's not "out of line" for someone this wealthy, who earns his living by keeping our soldiers safe (he makes bullet-proof vests), to spend this much on it. Just like Stevie, he works hard for his money.

From Steve Martin, 1983:

"OHHHH, so it's a PROFIT thing!!! "

Yeah.Especially Petty .I do see he is the only one who does not have a picture on that site .So maybe he had at least a vestige of shame about it:shrug: I have a feeling Stevie would perform at the county morgue if the price was right though.

Especially those photos of Steven Tyler up in the party princess's grill. That just looked so...."bought"... you know? Then I saw Stevie there with Don and it was like, jeez. :(

As I said in an earlier thread about this, it really doesn't bother me on the artist side of it (and I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Don Henley's entire fee went to one of his charity foundations). The dad who held the party is the one who makes me sick. Ghost Tracker, do some research on this guy and the bullet proof vests he provides for the military. Then come back and tell us if you think he's such a nice guy.

Interestingly, the vests have not failed in the field and the numbers recalled are mostly slight in comparison to the overall number out there - to wit:

Military recalls 18,000 DHB vests
Nov. 18 2005 -- 4:09:14 PM EST

by CLAUDE SOLNIK

WESTBURY - The Army and Marine Corps have recalled about 18,000 bullet-resistant vests produced by DHB Industries' Point Blank Body Armor Inc. subsidiary, according to wire reports.

Reuters said that the Army and Marine Corps announced the recall on Thursday. The Army recalled 8,083 vests out of a total of 873,000 it has used in the field. The Marine Corp recalled 10,342 out of about 191,000 being used.

DHB did not return two calls to its offices seeking comment about this recall. The Marines already recalled 5,000 vests made by Point Blank in May, Reuters said.

The wire service indicated that the military said vests were being recalled because they fell short of specifications set for the equipment.

But Reuters said the military said the vests were not believed to have put soldiers in danger, since its own threshold for strength is higher than they are expected to require in the field.

DHB Industries on Tuesday said it had received a new order for $30.1 million from the U.S. Army for additional vests. Shares of DHB slipped 7 percent in midday trading to $3.63 on the news of the recall.

Well, we know Stevie did GDW, and that she was using a teleprompter. You'd think that with all that money, whoever decorated the place could have put a decent looking skirt on the front of the stage. Notice the people watching Stevie and Don ? Not a soul under 40. All the girls were too busy having their pictures taken in their cute outfits. I lost count of the implants and nosejobs. What a 7 alarm trainwreck. All of my suspicions are confirmed. God Bless America.

I did. I think he's SUCH a nice guy.
And I also read the one, biased, factually deceiving article you guys are mentioning.
There were some problems which crept up with the body armor. They have since been fixed. There are ALWAYS problems with complex military equipment which have to be fixed. Also, it's the army's responsibility to give him the specifications they require. He met the specifications they requested. Yes I realize there's another side to it but what can I say, that's my opinion. My main point is that this guy deserves the benefit of a doubt before labeliing him an "Evil Defense Contractor" based on one article which was extremely biased and factually incorrect, in a way which, to me at least, seemed intentionally deceiving. There's always more to the story, and it seems quite clear to me that the person who wrote that article had an agenda. The government asked Brooks to provide a product, and he did that. Some problems occurred, as they always do, and he met his responsibilitities by fixing them. Being a defense contractor doesn't make someone the devil. And I realize there's a lot of B.S. that has gone on involving defense contractors and wars. I don't disagree with that. What I would like to try to point out, is that it's perhaps wrong to automatically lump this guy in with that bunch without REALLY knowing all the facts first, just because you disagree with the war or whatever. Anyway that's my honest, clueless opinion.

what are you smoking?

Nothing... unfortunately

Just how Steive has said so many times how its about art and blah blah and that she perform to her fans and her whole aura, light, art thing that she goes on about. How her music means so much and etc... come on she just said in the womans weekly how she "gave art her all" instead of having children...

I see no "stevie art" in this performance.

I completely agree that money is money and that people have to earn there money etc.. Well in that case she shouldn't always label her shows as things what they are not.

Im saddened because it seems hypocritical of her.

I can only hope that the teleprompter was put there by the party organizers for all of the performers as part of some contract or something. Otherwise..... OY!!!

I don't think it's hypocritical of her. There's art, heart and soul in her music, she did give a lot up to her art, she does seem to believe in that all, but that doesn't mean she has to be rueled 24/7 by her beliefs and sit at home surrounded by candles and meditating every night she's not giving a truly heartfelt performances to people she knows are her truest fans. Maybe she just wanted to go to a party? Maybe she went beause Don wanted her to? Maybe she just went because hse had nothing better to do that night? Maybe she did give a hertfelt performance herself? Maybe I'm deluding myself into believing in her no matter what, but it's possible.

and the cycle goes on....... reminds me of the stories of ancient Rome as it descended... bread and circuses... expensive parties of indulgences...Roman philosopher Seneca wrote, Cum ad cenandum discubuimus, alius sputa deterget, alius reliquias temulentorum [toro] subditus colligit, "When we recline at a banquet, one [slave] wipes up the spittle; another, situated beneath [the table], collects the leavings of the drunks". I am sorry, this party is just so sad on so many levels.....but then again, it really doesn't amount to much in the end.

Well, as we know Picasso never thought to sell a painting in his whole life and Matisse lived of air like McCartney, whose tickets now are sold at 50c, right? I still don't see why a singer can't sing in a private party, it's only a matter of personal taste. According to my beliefs I would have preferred that the lucky man wasn't an arms merchant but I can't express moral judgements on what she did, she proved so many times to be an extremely intelligent, generous woman and a true artist.

She had teleprompters at all her SYW shows and solo shows. I thought that was sort of a widely known fact. They are word for word - I mean every single ahhhhh, and ohhhhh, is on it. (I've been off to the side of her at the stage and been able to see it during the show). During Tusk at one of the SYW shows, I saw it... and even all the TUSKS! are on it (like, duh, who's going to forget to yell Tusk?) It even says "Welcome _____ (insert city name here)" depending where they are. I think it's a nerves thing, too. She hardly looks at it. I think she's nervous because she did forget so many words back in her hazy, druggy days. I think it's a security thing more than anything.

I think it's actually pretty standard these days - they ALL have them.
But I'm suddenly having visions of Stevie back in 1981 or so,
if they had used the monitors back then:

"WEL-come! In-sert . . . city name . . . . HERE! :) "

Seriously, though, I think there may be a more practical, reasonable purpose for them -
suppose Stevie got distracted by something? (for example, a drunk nutbar running up on
stage, a loud noise, Lindsey getting uppity, or the be-all-end-all of Stevie Nicks distractions - CUTE PUPPIES!!!)
She'd want to have a way to quickly figure out where she is and what to sing next.
Obviously she could do that from listening to the other musicians but if she's upset,
nervous, distracted, etc., a quick glance at the monitor might be much more helpful.

Amen. And I thought it was interesting that she sang Gold Dust Woman
for uhhmmm how do I phrase this without being politically incorrect?
Ah, screw it - for That Crowd. Suppose there's even a SLIGHT chance
she saved some rich kid's life by doing that?
More power and money to 'er, as far as I'm concerned.
She prob'ly just blew off her bills and sent it to Katrina relief ANY-way!
(or maybe she just selfishly spent it on herself - again, more power to 'er)

I agree Cat, she has used telepromotors at every gig I have attended since 1996..in the park in Boston. All SYW shows, all solo shows. Not for nothing, but if she is using a teleprompter, then there is absolutely no reason whatsoever that she can't do new and different songs at her shows. I used to think she didn't do different songs because she was afraid of screwing up (like I remember her doing on the SA tour). No more! They rehearse for the tours, and she knows the propters are there! Give us something different!

That is true but it is her choice. I think she would rather sing it from her heart because I wouldn't really like it if she looked at the teleprompter for a special song, IMO.

Seriously, what the fug?

I'm not offering advice, oh wise one. I was simply saying everything of late becomes a bitchfest and nitpicking everything from her makeup to her hair to her choice of songs to this to that and now it's over the freaking teleprompter. It's getting old.

I agree and I wasn't targeting you.

I'm just saying there's a difference between a critique and complaining and then dragging it out over every single thing possible for weeks on end. Some complaints are valid and some are not. IMO, bitching about the set list, the black dress or these teleprompters is a waste of time.

Why not focus time on appreciating certain concerts or sharing favorite pictures of her boots or something...anything? It is silly because one day, when Stevie isn't around anymore, we'll all wish we had taken time to appreciate the set list, the black dress and everything else we are all so quick to criticize now.

don't mean to rant, but this is something I've been thinking about

Why not focus time on appreciating certain concerts or sharing favorite pictures of her boots or something...anything?I want to share some photos of Stevie at an event in 1979. Stevie is beautiful & sexy & has a sexy little moustache.

The members of Fleetwood Mac are perfectly proportioned in this shot:

No doubt about it -- Stevie loves to sing "Go Your Own Way" in 1980:

Jim Ladd's Innerview radio show gave Stevie many chances to speak her mind, her heart & her pussy at the time Sulamith loved to stretch itself in the window in the sunlight & feast on cream & canned red salmon:

What does that mean? How on earth would that save someone's life by singing that song?
I think Ghost means that one of the party going princesses who may have been born with a silver spoon up her nose may have an epiphany while watching La Nicks perform her cautionary tale of frozens noses and holes in septums and remove the spoon before it's too late.

Ah, I'm sure that's exactly how it played out. She did it to save lives.

Of course she did. The check she received was simply a perk. The deposition of it in her bank account was nothing compared to the transfigurations that occurred amongst those 13 year old cokeheads after hearing her sing "Gold Dust Woman," darling. She did it for the kids.

Sing along Karaoke with Stevie Nicks. All she needs is the bouncing ball. :wavey: tell me what words can be seen on the teleprompt in the photo? either my monitor blurs or im going blind...

ive never seen prompts at her shows...but it is quite possible they were there. anyone have any other visual evidence? it wouldnt bother me if she wants them.

maybe mrmoneybags sprung for karoke screens for mitzvah singlalongs

Dolly Parton uses a teleprompter and I've been to REM and Lucinda Williams concerts where they had the lyrics right there on a music stand. It seems quite understandable that an artist would want to have them up there just in case. There are so many times that I forget a simple word when I'm just talking with a friend.

I'm guessing the thing about GDW saving lives is a joke? The song didn't even help Stevie herself.

thanks...maybe prompts have become standard tech at shows?
show up with your songs or dont play?

if there was additional evidence of the prompts we may know for sure. perhaps the shots would show different set-ups? if a prompt is sized differently or on a variety of stands, etc we'd know prompts were furnished by the venue not carried to each show by the crew.

Well, I know that I saw Stevie's prompter at every show in 2004 and 2005 of hers and FM's I saw. So I think it's part of her "stuff." It looks like one of the speakers on the stage at her feet. Unless you see it from the front, you would just take it to be another speaker. But I was leaning on it at one show (me and another girl) and we accidentally moved it and turned it towards us a bit. (We turned it back for her! ) Other times, I've just been able to see it because of my angle to the stage. Honestly, I think she has it as a standby - I hardly ever saw her look at it. She did a couple of times - but she does it very subtly.

No she did it to make MONEY and I never denied that.
I'm just sayin' "W t f." Maybe she had a "positive influence."
Welcome to the concept of capitalism, what can I say.
It was an "appropriate song" to do.

From Steve Martin, 1983:

"OHHHHH, so it's a PROFIT thing!!"

No ! No ! No! I refuse to accept that she did it for the money. She did it to save all those poor little girls on Long Island from snorting up all that Gold Dust and to save them from having to get even more corrective rhinoplasty. It was pure selfless altruism I tell you.
