I don't know exactly when Stevie started hanging ribbons off her microphone... But I do know that she didn't always hang as many as she does now.. she only used to hand about 3 or 4.

Does anyone know when Stevie started to hang things off her microphone.....and what it means to her??????? :blob1:If you mean hang tambourines or various percussion instruments on her mic stand, she's been doing that for most of her years with FM & solo.

If you mean flowery, decorative ****, she started doing that on the Mirage Tour, when she festooned her mic stand with a (relatively) small strand of fake flower blooms (although sometimes on the Tusk & Bella Donna tours, she would hang a single rose & stem from the stand). Also, there were occasions on the Penguin Country Safari Tour (1978) when Stevie would hang her feather headdress on her mic stand.

Finally, round about the time of the Tango in the Night Fleetwood Mac tour, it reached ridiculous proportions with stupid colored ribbons hanging from her crescent tambourine ... & before too long, ribbons were added to the mic stand until the entire stage was awash in stupid ribbons.

I'm watching a Las Vegas DVD right now, which I finally have access to a zillion years after everyone else, and was just thinking enough with the ribbons. It seems to give Stevie something to do while she sings, playing with them, but it's a little distracting.

Did she copy it from Steven Tyler?

Did she copy it from Steven Tyler? You're just joshin' me now, Curtis!!

It's probably an old hippie/hard rock convention. Certainly the ugly dude in Aerosmith used to hang that scarf of his from the boom, & I think Robert Plant used to festoon his boom with all sorts of frilly, bohemian stuff.

In Stevie's case in the old days, it was generally when some stupid fan would throw a rose at her onstage (or sometimes a bouquet in the green wrap with a single ribbon around it) that she would go pick it up & then hop back to the mic to finish her vocal, while trying to intertwine the rose stem around the boom.

Everybody in the world is stupid, is my conclusion. Except for Jacques Barzun (who does not festoon his mic stand with garlands of ribbons or other detritus).

I love the ribbons on Stevie's mic stand... especially the ones I got after Fleetwood Mac's final show in Detroit in 2004... :o

(Incidentally, a 'stupid fan' is any fan who isn't ledge fan -- i.e., it's all the others 'out there')

We have ribbons, rosary beeds, mardi gras beeds, roses, etc etc etc.

It is more of a comfort thing nowadays, IMHO. It gives her something to play with, something to do with her hands. If you want to watch something really cool, check out HSML from the Friday Vegas boot. Stevie winds the ribbons around her wrists like she is binding herself up. It is kinky and cute at the same time. She is very obvious when she is doing it so don't worry about missing it, you can't! Stevie did some sexy things during her week in Vegas. :p

Yeah.... uh.... no.

I think she just likes how they look. It goes no deeper than that.

...or Red Rocks '05. She got her beads stuck in her shawl during the SB kick.....then the final twirls....beads went everywhere....and you can see a string of them twirling with her! I laughed so hard that night. Poor Waddy probably lost an eye.

Maybe after the May 10th show? 'Cuz I'm finally watching a DVD of that show and until Sorcerer she looks completely bored. She kicks it on Sorcerer though.

Stevie winds the ribbons around her wrists like she is binding herself up.Stevie is obviously engaging in a symbolic display of the Jewish ritual of applying tefillin as part of the practice of rabbinic Jewish prayer.

This practice, together with her recent appearance at a New York Bat Mitzvah, obviously indicate that Stevie is converting to Orthodox Judaism.

Hee-hee! Well, her shmata in that pic w/ Don Henley made me think she was about to do the candle blessing. :D

Oh - and the ribbon colors changed to red, white and blue after 9/11. :)

I think Stevie started this way early on - Pretty much when she first joined FM, 1975 or so (I've seen old photos). But yeah it got more elaborate over time. I think probably it eventually became a roadie's job, and I would bet that's when it became more elaborate. 1983 or so sounds about right on that, to me.
I don't think there's any special meaning - it's just is part of her whole mystical "stage persona" thingy and sorta suits her personality.
(It's sorta "girly" and "rock" at the same time.)

Yes. Also, "KISS" stands for "Knights in Satan's Service," "AC/DC" stands for "Anti-Christ/Devil's Companion," and Stevie is part of a witch's coven that plans to take over the entire universe on December 31st, 2005. It's all part of a covert organized plot involving hyper-dimensional beings from Mars, the radical right wing conspiracy, and both Britney Spears and Madonna, and has been taking shape and gathering momentum since the Middle Ages. Stevie's dogs Sara and Sulamith are actually familiars which will pop into their true demonic forms in three weeks and lead the takeover. . . .

FRIKEN DAMMIT!!! ARRGGHHH
I've got LAs Vegas 10/05/05 Disk 1 (but i think i've got disk two as well)

I've only got a 50mg file of Las Vegas 14/05 & 80mb of Phili and they consist of jumpy snippets with some weird drugged out pixel thing happening  BUT the videos look REALLY good so thats a shame i didn't get those!

And with the ribbons, feathers things, i got her rose petals and her set list at two of the fmac shows...

It does seem to be something she plays with and keeps her occupied, probably calms her too.

Fado singers traditionally wear black shawls, and they often grasp and twist the fringe. Stevie's shawl wearing and ribbon twisting reminds me of this, although you wouldn't find a fado singer with a bezillion ribbons.

Few of them use mics anyway.

And they don't rock.

Also, they sing in Portuguese.

In one of Cory's journal entries she talks about this, how it's her job to put the ribbons/rosary/roses on Stevie's stand and how she takes pride in doing it well. She then mentions one show where it's too windy to put the ribbons on and that she ended up laughing all night watching Stevie reach for ribbons that weren't there! So, I definitely think that while it might have started as something for looks along, it's now turned into a way for her to feel more comfortable on stage.

She's also the Dressing Room Ambiance Coordinator for Fleetwood Mac. (Check out the credits at the end of "Live in Boston." :] ) Where exactly should I send my RESUME for such a position? Is it "Experienced only" ???

You know what strikes me? Why did Stevie get rid of that microphone that's all square and not round. The one I'm talking about is in the live at hbo video...and I believe she used it for some part of rumours, tusk, and whatever else tours...

I think that microphone gave her more style because she wasn't using an ordinary microphone...

and you notice in the sorcerer video that it looks like sheryl crow used it...

I just wonder why Stevie doesn't use it anymore :(
