View Full Version : Stevie thoughts while driving to work one day...

Just a few Stevie thoughts I had while driving...
The first show I ever saw was Rock A Little at Jones Beach. I was maybe, 17 years old at the time and went with my best friend. We had nose bleed seats, and at that time, I had never even seen live footage of Stevie. At the end during Edge, when she did her walk, we almost sh*t ourselves. "She is TOUCHING people!". We swore to each other that one day we would be up front together. Over the years we went to all of her shows, but never up front. Fast forward 20 years later. We saw two FM concerts together and had 3rd and 8th rows. Then, on this past Gold Dust tour, we had 3rd row again and of course turned that into front row and got to touch Stevie. (figures we'd have to be middle aged with some money to nab those seats, but whatever) So my point (yes, I really do have one) is that this friend of 25 years and I have shared our love of Stevie together. Part of the fun of going to Stevie concerts back in the day was dressing up like her and acting like retards over the excitement. I've noticed a lot of younger fans discovered Stevie and FM during The Dance, and I wonder if it sucks not having any friends who share your fan-ness.

Not at all, but then, I'm not one who is particularly saddened by the idea of going to a concert alone or with just one or two people. There are plenty of other artists that I like whom many of my friends like also, but I've always been quite content with Fleetwood Mac kind of just being "my" thing. I actually don't ever even try to convert anybody. Much as I love making mix CDs for friends, I've never once made one of Fleetwood Mac or related music.

I got into the Mac when my mother played me Peacekeeper in around April 2004. I loved the song but it was when I heard Running through the Garden that I stole the CD ...
A week or two later I spied the Dance DVD in a shop and sort of implied to Mum that she might be interested ... she took the bait and never saw the DVD again.
I watched it, got totally hooked and the rest is history...
I'm 16 and even though I've only been into the Mac about 18months I got obsessed REALLY fast. I do have one other friend [Hi Angelick Witch!] my age who's obsessed too but we live opposite ends of the country so it's difficult to obsess together properly. It's really cool to get someone else converted...
That said it's pretty cool to be into something a bit unique when all your peers are into rubbish that'll be out of fashion by next Tuesday. Stevie and the Mac have endured and I hope I'll be into them for a long time.
Their music is a great inspiration and has affected my life hugely.
They came to Dublin a few months before I got really obsessed and it turns out my friend's father had front row seats ... grr. I've never been to their concerts but I reallly hope that the rumoured 07 outing will be my chance.
For me, it does suck; I've been to plenty of FM/SN shows and have had to practically beg each time to get someone to go with me. When I was younger it was my parents (I couldn't drive) and later it was my sister or friends. I usually end up paying for their ticket because they're not willing to fork out the cash for decent seats. And then I usually feel dumb for jumping up/dancing/screaming/etc because the person I'm with is acting like they're in a movie theatre! :o
But whatever.

I love having the Mac as being 'my' thing. I always thought it was a bit weird to think like that, glad somebody agrees.
If they do come back I'd like to go to the concert alone, to be honest. It'd be such an amazing experience to have my own, I don't really want to share it!!

I guess for my friend and I, it was "our" thing. No one else we hung out with was into FM or Stevie. When we knew we were going to get up front at this last concert, it was like being 17 all over again! We couldn't even eat dinner b/c we were so excited. And then after the concert, we sat by the hotel pool and talked about the show like a couple of teenagers. I would think it would be lonely after a show not to have someone as into it as you are to share that with.

It did suck, but then I met skcin (even though she only discovered them during The Dance   ) and we've been friends ever since. I actually met her from Mick's board. We went to the Toronto show together and then Vegas. It's nice to have someone to share your compassion for something with. Prior to that, I dragged my poor husband to all the other show's. I guess you could say that he's more grateful for me meeting Paula then me

I'm just so thankful to Mr. Mick Fleetwood for working so hard to keep Fleetwood Mac alive for all those years. I didnt get a chance to see Fleetwood Mac until the Dance tour, and I met mick in Cleveland last year On SYW and I told him thank you for working so hard to keep Fleetwood Mac together cause this band means alot to me, and I wouldnt have ever had a chance to see u guys live if it wasnt for your determination not to let Fleetwood Mac die. I'll never forget being able to participate in the SYW tour to the level I did. It was a small price to pay for all the enjoyment they've given me.

My friends all thought I was nuts. I toltally understand where you're coming from on Fleetwood Mac being your thing. Its the same way for me, I love them and it doesnt matter to me if anyone else does.

Yeah, to me it sucks because none of my friends are into FM. My parents are the only ones who'll go with me to the concerts. And even they're not huge fans like I am. My first ever concert was the Say You Will show in West Palm Beach last year, and I was sooo excited that I couldn't stop talking about it. No one understood that I had just seen my idols up on that stage, and they got annoyed because I wouldn't shut up about it, lol. It kind of pissed me off, to be perfectly honest, when my family would tell me to shut up about the concert. Oh well, what can I do?

I have seen the Mac alone and Stevie alone....I was terrified both times...
I'm 23 and not that big...I can't even call in a pizza by myself...so that lonely walk to the venue and back is enough to give me the heebie jeebies man...
I have begged my friends and sister to go with me but they won't....they like Fleetwood Mac...they just don't love em....my friends and I have been to a TON of concerts together...we've seen them all...from Pantera to Korn...From Incubus to the Toadies....We've got a list a mile long...and we usually travel in packs...but man I can not get a soul to go with me to see The Mac or Stevie...It blows, dudes...but all my friends (including myself) are pretty much flat broke...new cars, that we can't afford...school loans...rent...new babies...groovy threads...lots of beer....
I'm sure that if all my friends were rolling in the benjamins like the 13yr old bat mitzah queen then they would enjoy the Mac live with me...
I tell you what though... somebody's going with me in 2007 to see Fleetwood Mac..I don't care IF they have to sell one of those new babies...somebody's going with me..
hehe
ciao!

Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. I'm 17 and none of my friends that I go to school with really like Stevie. They get pretty sick of hearing her and hearing me talk about her. But it's apart of me, when they think of me they think of Stevie lol. I have a couple friends my age in Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. I am very lucky that I have gotten to attend some shows with them. I do wish that I had at least one friend here that loved Stevie as much as I do, but I deal with it. It sucks being a young fan sometimes because I've missed out on so much, so many tours. I was totally born in the wrong decade :p

Amen. But at the same time I think it's a good time to be a Mac nut. It's unusual in our generation.
I hope this isn't the last tour they do [at this rate, ANY tour they do could be the last] but if it is, I want to be there.
My plan is to get off school to book tickets ... and I haven't missed a day in five years ...

I'm proud of all you guys that go alone- especially the younger fans! Kudos to you guys! :woohoo:
As for me, I'm 36 and my girlfriend and I both love Stevie and FM, so I always have someone to go with. Being at their concerts is my favorite place to be of all places to be (does the make sense? ) There's nothing else like it.

Don't you just love when you first walk into the venue early and you have really great seats and you're sitting there looking at the stage and her ribbons on the mic are blowing in the breeze and the feeling of anticipation of her coming out. It's the greatest experience.

A lot of my friends know a few of the songs, but I'm the only one that knows every single song. Sometimes I get "oh, my parents love them!" Well, I'm not your parents, I'm a year younger than you! LOL. I like it though, it makes me unique. I'm the person that loves Stevie Nicks, and I like that! My mom goes with me to concerts, because she loves Stevie just as much as I do, and it's a bonding experience.

YES!!! I LOVE that!! :]
I also love planning out how I'll get to the stage if I'm back in row 4 or something. The furthest back I ever was and got to the front was 12th row in Vegas this year. Mad dash right after How Still My Love!

Especially when you have good seats- you get that feeling of "oh my god, she's going to be RIGHT THERE!"

Well, it kinda sucks sometimes because my friends tend to find my Stevie obsession cute but annoying after some time. My ex was a big FM but not into Stevie, as such. Get this tho..I logged into the nicksfix chatroom for no good reason, met a guy who lives less than an hour from me, is my age and has the same degree as me...lots in common. He never visited there before....and yet 6 months later.....:D
That being said tho...being 20 years old and obsessed with 70s classic rock, 80s glam rock, metal and blues....I'm used to not having my friends being into what I'm into. Man, if I had a pound for every time someone said to me...and WHO are Whitesnake again...well, I'd be able to fly to Oz to see Stevie!! :)

Wow. I've thought tons of times that I'd rather go alone (which I do) then take someone who was less than wildly enthusiastic about going. But I get the thing about someone having to drive you.
Since 1992/3 I haven't had one single friend, acquaintance, cat, dog, or imaginary friend that likes FM. Except for that one first guy who worked with me when i started getting into them. He was an old hand, he gave me a bunch of the lowdown. But then I only knew him for a few months.
So, I got pretty used to the solitary FM life. It was fun hanging out in vegas with people I met on here, definitely - it's more ideal.
I do everything by myself anyway, though, so...
But it's pretty cool that one ledgie lives by me. And she goes to everything.
For SYW, my friend drove me to the San Jose show, but he was all unhappy, his girlfriend didn't like FM, really, and the car ride there and back was ever so lonely. We were listening to rap in the car, and of course they didn't want to talk about FM afterwards. Except for bitching about the sound from their seats. (I had front row).
That was way worse then going by myself. It's that "lonely in a room full of people" feeling.

Jess, I couldn't have said that any better myself!
I do have two of my friends at school that like her. Not as much as me though, and I could never really talk about much with them.
It's really sad when I can talk to my teachers more about my likings than the kids around me. It's okay though, because I've always predered adults. :)

I don't sweat it, I just try to convert them and if I can't... what kind of friend were they anyway? lol.
I'm kidding.
I went to see Stevie this summer with one of my friends who wasn't too interested, but after she saw her--well, let's just say she's almost as crazy as me now. I don't think I would mind going to a Stevie or Mac concert alone 'cause then I could just be crazy and dance and sing and stuff without anyone telling the story of how I acted like a retard later. :D
What actually got me hooked was not the dance. It was me reading a book called "The Cube" and my "personality song" was Seven Wonders, so... I looked it up, downloaded it and have been a fanatic ever since!

My sentiments exactly. I don't care if my friends like them, I know they're great, that's all I need to know. And I feel very protective of them (F.M.) from any possibility of naysaying so I just keep it out of their (my friends) face. I don't need anyone sh*tting on my favorite band, ya know? I have to admit though, I'm glad that I've made a few Ledgie friends with whom I can indulge my fandom at shows. That's a GREAT bonus .
