It wasn't a direct quote from Stevie though... it was stated by Sharon Krum in the body of the article. So you'd think there would be some fact-checking involved.

But where did the writer get that whole idea in the first place?

But where did the writer get that whole idea in the first place?Who knows? Doesn't necessarily have to be Stevie though... could be her publicist, the internet, another article, and so forth.

How many times have supposedly legitimate news sources, articles and rock history books referred to Stevie and Lindsey as "former husband and wife"? They certainly don't get that little "factoid" from the artists.

Making that sort of reference is quite different from claiming Nicks put her demo of a song up on the internet to generate funds for victims of a hurricane.

Making that sort of reference is quite different from claiming Nicks put her demo of a song up on the internet to generate funds for victims of a hurricane.I think stating in a factual setting that two people were married, when they were in fact not, is a pretty big and inexcusable boner for a journalist to make. It's something that is easily verified, and yet journalists still make the mistake.
Hell, plenty of them still can't get Lindsey's name spelled correctly, and all you have to do is a two-second Google search to fix that one.

So who knows where Ms. Krum got that information, but we can't automatically assume it came from Stevie's mouth, when it was not directly quoted as such.

I think that making a reference in passing of two ex-lovers being married is quite a minor mistake when it's compared to falsely stating that Stevie Nicks put up a demo for one of her songs on the internet in order to generate proceeds for the victims of Hurrican Katrina. But that's just me. The "married mistake" is something any lame journalist who can't do their job thoroughly could make, whereas it's entirely mysterious how they came up with that other whopper.

So who knows where Ms. Krum got that information, but we can't automatically assume it came from Stevie's mouth, when it was not directly quoted as such.

And I never once stated or assumed that it came from the mouth of Nicks. I asked where the writer came up with that assertion in regards to "Touched By An Angel." Though we also can't assume that it didn't come from Nicks and the writer somehow interpreted it in the wrong way.

If something is false, it is false. Period.
My journalism teacher was a battle-axe where fact-checking was concerned, and that stuck with me.

But when you questioned how the writer could have come up with that notion in the first place, I answered that it could easily have been from any number of sources... not necessarily Stevie, as the ladies who had posted before my first reply seemed to have assumed.

That's you. This isn't Time Magazine reporting on the use of Curve Ball as a source for weapons of mass destruction being manufactured in Iraq. I find a silly reference like that to be sloppy but more forgivable than making up a whole story about aiding the victims of Hurricane Katrina and passing it off as fact. Especially since Stevie has made several public statements about her and Lindsey being as good as "married."

Just as it could have easily been Stevie. The fact is we don't know, but it surely came from the Stevie camp.

a pretty big and inexcusable boner

Dude, you said 'boner'.

Insert Beavis and Butthead laugh.

Sounds like classic Stevie cluelessness to me. My theory ? She thought of doing this, told Karen, called her manager, and it was too complicated to do it, so no one told her for fear of invoking her wrath. I suspect the world of things Stevie imagined happening, and is convinced actually happened dwarves our current reality.

I find a silly reference like that to be sloppy but more forgivable than making up a whole story about aiding the victims of Hurricane Katrina and passing it off as fact.Ah, but that's not entirely "made up" either... we all know from other articles and her Habitat For Humanity participation, that Stevie did do something to raise money and awareness for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. What's in question, is whether or not she also donated proceeds from internet sales to the cause.

By your own criteria, if something's "as good as" true, it's only a minor error. ;)

I suspect the world of things Stevie imagined happening, and is convinced actually happened dwarves our current reality. It very well could have gone down that way, but the lack of a direct quote on this (and no other instances of Stevie having said anything regarding "Touched By An Angel" and Hurricane Katrina), makes it seem highly possible to me that the journalist made an unintentional mistake, or something got fouled up in the process of editing her notes and/or the article itself.

Yikes, a simple "we shouldn't automatically assume that information came directly from Stevie's mouth" comment, became six posts.
I need to find more ways to work the word "boner" into conversation though... it's a good 'un.

 Please tell me you did not argue this with a straight face.

We're talking about the assertion that she put up a demo on the internet to raise money for the victims of Katrina, not the fact that she sang some songs, swung a hammer and made out with a dog on the Today show. Those things are to be commended, but stop spinning.

We are dealing with Womens Weekly here! Its hardly a reputable magazine... :]

But maybe thats right... Stevie might have intended to put the demo up on the internet, but just never got the time!

Those things are to be commended, but stop spinning. You said that Stevie's comments that her and Lindsey were "as good as married" cause it to only be a "minor mistake" when journalists refer to them as having been married.
So, by that skewered logic, it would seem to be only a "minor mistake" to say she raised money for Hurricane victims one way, when she actually raised money in another way.

At any rate, I was mainly just trying to tease you with that comment, and I'm starting to regret that I ever said anything in this thread in the first place.

So... hey, peeps, Stevie claimed she put a demo on the internet to raise money for Hurricane victims, cuz the bitch is straight trippin'.

Now we can be done with it. :)

Bad? No way. I think it is one of the most beautiful songs Stevie has ever written. It got lost on a soundtrack though. Are we allowed to put up Yousendit links on this board? I do not want to violate any rules. If it is not a problem, I will post a link....you must hear this song, it is truly stunning.

People do it all the time...although I dunno if you're supposed to.We don't have a policy against sharing mp3s or links to mp3s. Though we can't condone sharing an album's worth of readily-available commercially-released tracks, of course.

In other words, it wouldn't be a problem to post an mp3 for "Touched By An Angel"... but I wouldn't suggest posting links to every song on an album that can easily be purchased.

Stevie never, never, never swung a hammer on The Today Show.
Alas, you therefore have committed a factual error.
Stevie is therefore, by my flawless reasoning process,
even more 100% perfect than before, in comparison.
Spinning??? I'll be her SPIN Doctor! STEVIE for PRESIDENT!!!

Okay honey - I bought three copies all by my little ole self

As for La Nicks - I agree, think she told someone to use the song and it may or may not have happened - or it could be in the works. In the end, it is the thought that counts

I get so irritated as a fan when this happens. She's put some of her work on those crapshoot releases....Blue Lamp, Sleeping Angel, Violet and Blue, Battle of the Dragon, If You Ever Did Believe. If WB is planning to issue another best-of, they should compile her soundtrack work and Stevie should tour behind that :woohoo: I guess it could be argued that was disc 3 of Enchanted.
