I'm sure Diss has already heard the good news, but I'll post it anyway. Being inducted this year:

Black Sabbath
Blondie
Miles Davis
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Sex Pistols

It's an eclectic group, to say the least...

I hate the Sex Pistols, but I do hope Johnny shows up just to give a real biting "f*** off, wankers" speech.

I'd be surprised if he didn't say SOMETHING about the irony of The Sex Pistols receiving this award. I love it.

But where's Patti? This pains me. An induction show with Blondie and Patti sharing the same stage would have been one of the most awkward & delicious television moments of the year.

This on top of the news that Blondie's been working on a new album makes me so happy.

Is that from the Phasm 8 tour? Great pic. Have you seen the pics of her from the past few nights of shows? She's looks marvelous.

it's from almost two years ago, actually it's a crappy pic, and she did look kinda...hmmm...i mean...ahmmm...you know...for a sex goddess that means... nevertheless she was amazing, and as always, witnessing such a rare legend in action, from such a short distance is one of those special lifetime experiences.

I like it, mostly because I liked that get-up. Certainly accentuated her pooch, though, that's for sure. The official site (which I pretty much hate with every fiber of my being) has some great photos of them in Zurich with that red outfit on her.

Louis on the Tiki Lab has been dropping little tidbits about their new album being very "unexpected" and surprising in content, so I can't wait for it. But that man drives me nuts with the way he teases about new stuff, it's actually quite rude.

It's about time. I hope the other line-ups get mentioned and it's not just the Ozzy show. Like that will happen.

on it cause I doubt any of the past lineups will be mentioned (Which are the Sabbath lineup I prefer-Gimme the Ronnie James Dio, Tony Martin & Ray Gillen led Sabbath anyday over the drugged-out/out-of-tune Ozzy lineup)

Not that I really needed another reason to believe that this organization is pointless to the max.

Patti and Blondie were nominated for the first time this year and Patti didn't make it. The Sex Pistols over Patti? Fug. It makes no sense, especially since this is the 30th anniversary of "Horses." Would have been the best time for her to be inducted. They both should have been inducted years ago, though.

It's Will Arnett from "Arrested Development" trying to swallow a key. He? Makes me lose it. So ****ing funny.

You'd probably die over the songs they're performing on this current tour. Pretty Baby, Rifle Range, 11:59, Die Young Stay Pretty, Fade Away and Radiate, More Than This (Roxy Music cover), a completely new version of In the Flesh, Comic Books, etc. I have some audio if you want to hear a few songs.

NEW YORK (AP) - Black Sabbath, Miles Davis and the Sex Pistols are among five musical legends to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation will hold its induction ceremony March 13 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Manhattan, the organization announced Monday.

Also to be inducted into the class of 2006: 1980s New Wave band Blondie and Southern rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss, who founded A&M records in 1962, will receive a lifetime achievement award in the non-performer category.

Inductees into the side-men category will be announced at a later date.

Musicians, industry professionals and journalists vote on the nominations. Artists are eligible to be inducted into the Rock Hall after at least 25 years have passed since their first record was released.

Whoa! If they are eligible, I have to say that (those?) is/are quite the oversight.
Isn't Kate Bush a genius? That's what I've heard everywhere, all the time, unequivocally. No one I've ever read or talked to has said otherwise.
And ABBA is golden. Oh, ABBA, I love you.

Rock and Roll doesn't mean rock music. It's just a term for music in general.

(although there's more genuine rock sound & spirit in a single riff on "Bitches Brew" than there is in the entire "Other Side of the Mirror" album)

His thing was a lot more than jazz. The guy all but invented fusion in the late 60s and early 70s, which is surely the reason for him being inducted.

Uh... no it's not. It's a term for rock and roll music. I don't think Chopin or Coltrane or the Carter Family are going to be inducted into the RRHOF anytime soon.

Rock and roll is indeed a fairly broad term that has always included soul and r&b, along with a lot of modern folk and certain crossover country artists, but it's not a total umbrella term.

OK. I think I don't understand. At any rate he was extremely talented/genious.

In the late 60s, Miles (along with some other folks like Frank Zappa) began experimenting with using rock beats in his music, and the resulting jazz-rock combination was called fusion.

Whether that's reason enough to put him in the RRHOF... well, I'm not the person to answer that question as I think the whole organization is pretty pointless and couldn't care less about it.

Is anyone going to this?

Greetings Blondie fans!

As the band's 30th anniversary, 2006 will be a monumental year in Blondie's history. They will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, and you, the fans, have a chance to be part of the celebration!

In tribute to our favorite group of musicians, and in association with Billboard Magazine, 10th Street Entertainment, and Tiki LAB, we are proud to announce that we have arranged for 150 Blondie fans to show their love, support and best wishes with an advertisement in a special Blondie commemorative tribute issue of Billboard magazine.

There are 150 spaces open, at $35 each, to be part of this moment in Blondie history. For your contribution, your name will appear in the ad, along with a group note of congratulations on their magnificent achievement.

We expect the 150 spaces to fill very quickly on a first-come, first-serve basis, so here are the details for you to act on now:

Write to [email protected] first to reserve your space. (Do NOT send any money to this address.) Include your name (the way you want it displayed in the ad) and a working email address. An email will be sent back to you with instructions on how to pay via PayPal. (If you've never paid with PayPal before, don't worry, it's easy.) Only personal names will be accepted for the ad. No web site URLs, company names, etc. The ad will contain your name along with the other participants, and one main group message congratulating Blondie.

It's going to be a great year for Blondie!

Cheers,

Louis A Bustamante
