When people constantly talk about their lack of babies .... it's because they're sad they've never had their own. Sheryl Crow's favorite mistake may have been a man, but Stevie's favorite is her lack of a child. She's in her late 50s and is finally feeling extra-much-more-maternal (though I think she's always been incredibly maternal) as she more than likely sees her career slowly getting put on the shelf (by her, IMO). You can't blame her for having such feelings but I'm sure one day she'll have someone to call her "mom" -- it's certainly become more than a little obvious that she wants that in her life -- especially as of late.
These photographs are absolutely beautiful. I hope someone will be able to scan and upload a high res photo

Bingo. You are too cool for school, babe. Let's not blame it on the journalists, Stevie isn't required to answer their questions. It's entirely possible that she's the one who brings the topic up during these interviews.

Let us not forget that in PR and the media in general, journalists are given topics to discuss with the celebrity they are interviewing so even if the questions are being asked, they're being asked because that's what she doesn't mind discussing. There are things off limits and then there are things that are not. I have a feeling Stevie's list of things that can be discussed includes the following things -- Fleetwood Mac, her solo career, drug abuse, her relationship with Lindsey, and what she's given up to be the Queen of Rock and Roll. Hence the same redundant and regurgitated interviews over and over again.

It depends, journalists don't tolerate now too strict "no discuss" rules, usually it depends by the magazine/newspaper power how far you can go. Tom Cruise knows it very well: in Germany a tv journalist broke the embargo and started asking very tough questions on Scientology and Steven Spielberg had to limit his star' s outburst. Then since they made for War of the worlds a very restricted press junket (only friendly guys admitted) most of international newspapers "burnt" (do you say in the same way?) the news about the movie publishing the report one month ahead the release. And it certainly didn't help the movie. :D
By the way, back to Stevie. I love the photos, especially the first two, the one with the white top hat is really nice. About the interview I think it's normal for a reporter who writes on a women magazine to ask "why haven't you become a mother?". It's not Stevie's fans the major magazine's target, but its usual readers, don't you think?

These are not photos in Stevie's house. They were taken in Australia and the photographer said he decorated the room red "'around Stevie" because she commanded the room. That is pretty much all I can make out of the article. Perhaps some Ledgie from Down Under can transcribe for us? I know Barnes and Noble carries this magazine but they run very far behind. Right now they have Septembers. :(

There's a reference saying it's Stevie's house.
AND THAT'S NOT ALL ...
There's Collette Dinnigan talking about life, love and fashion; Naomi Watts in the latest Christmas blockbuster, King Kong; Neil Perry getting hot and saucy in the kitchen with a departure from traditional yuletide fare; Weekend Sunrise host, Lisa Wilkinson, and her husband, media identity and ex-footballer Peter FitzSimons, entertaining at home; Stevie Nicks showing us round her bohemian LA mansion; and Sheila Scotter celebrating life in style! Plus some of the most gorgeous women on television, among them Sandra Sully, Sharyn Ghidella, Ann Sanders and Jessica Rowe, model their favourite Christmas dresses, and stars with hearts, including David Wenham, Cathy Freeman, Hugh Jackman and Gretel Killeen, tell us what they're giving this Christmas.

Or it's because Stevie constantly wants to discuss how much she self-sacrificed to become a rock and roll star.I've noticed that when the journalist/interviewer doesn't bring it up, Stevie doesn't bring it up. I mean, it's not like she simply blurts out, "you know, I never had any babies!"
But if they ask about it, she talks about it.
And if she refused to talk about, as dissention suggested she could/should do, then there'd be about three dozen fans speculating about what's going on behind the scenes in her relationship with Lindsey that would suddenly cause her to not want to talk about not having had any children.
So she might as well just answer the questions, even if we've heard about it a million times.
Back to the topic at hand... I can't wait to see full scans. So get to work, people! ;)

You know what? I take really deep and personal offence to that.
It's depressing enough to me that I don't have kids yet - without you telling me I'm not human because of it. Thanks for ruining my night. No, no, no, Cat... please don't let that comment ruin your night! Honestly, I don't think she really wants children. So she weaves this fabulous "I gave all for my art" story as part of her image so society in general doesn't have a negative perception of her for that.
At 57, it would be really unfair (to the child) to adopt a child now. JMHO, of course.

I'm pretty sure Stevie has gone through menopause and even if she hasn't, 57 is too freaking old to have babies.
I agree with gldstwmn; I think if she REALLY wanted kids, she would have figured out a way- plenty of celebrities have done it without involving a ton of hired help.

Honestly, I don't think she really wants children. So she weaves this fabulous "I gave all for my art" story as part of her image so society in general doesn't have a negative perception of her for that.
At 57, it would be really unfair (to the child) to adopt a child now. JMHO, of course.
I kinda think so, too. She probably wants to in that kind of way where you think they are cute, and you want to pass your genes, but you don't really want to take care of them. It's probably more of a fantasy thing in her head. Knowing Stevie.

Or you are trying to hide a long term relationship you have been in but dont want to talk about. So, you claim to have been in one, while on a world tour, so you don't look matronly.
As for the baby thing, Stevie mourned the fact she did not have kids in the late 80's, early 90's. she carried dolls around airports, cried about not having one, talked about adopting, had names picked out. (Lillian Rebecca) The spin about not wanting one because of her art started around Dance time. No fan knows how she really feels because she says things in interviews depending on her motivations at the time. Stevie knows the image she wants to present to the world and she continues to push that image in most interviews. I don't know how you can go from wanting kids in the early 90's bad enough to cry in interviews over it, to suddenly being satisfied with a dog.. However, Stevie pushes that in every interview, that she doesnt want or need kids, no one questions it any further because "'hey, Stevie said it, it must be true". The stuff she said in the late 80's, early 90's is brushed off as klonopin ramblings but Stevie still said the stuff, repeatedly for YEARS. She changed her tune in 1997. From that point on, she has presented the baby thing in a specific way, she addresses it is the majority of interviews. Do people really believe that each independent interviewer or reporter just randomly decides to ask an almost 60 year old woman about babies? It happens all the time and she is old enough to be a Grandmother! The fact it is brought up is because Stevie wants to address it, she is determined to drive that image home.

Ruby and Tessa Fleetwood are two of her God Daughters. I think she has more, she dedicates Landslide to all her Goddaughters at the LA gold Dust show and she names a bunch of girls. She names one "'Lindsey Christine" and jokingly says "not named after me, obviously"'.
At the Concord show she dedicated Landslide to her nieces and nephews, Emily, Dusty and another one. (some people think they are Chris's kids or something nuts like that but they are Jeff B.'s kids)

This I don't get. So, you're saying she might have been in a long term relationship with someone (and seriously, hats off if its true and she's been able to hide it all this time) and in order to keep that private, she makes up a relationship she's been with during their last tour?

Stevie loves loves a mystery!!! I think she even loves the speculation (if she knows about it) If she was/is in a relationship she ain't gonna spill it, especially if its someone with any name recognition, at least not until its long over.
Personally, I think she positively GLOWED..(although she became more sedate later when her dad was very ill) during the GD tour and was gettin hers;) I have no idea who she is/was knockin boots with but who cares.
As far as the "last year" comment we all know Stevie and time refrences that could mean a decade ago or last week.
All I know is I want La Nicks to be happy if that means a man or a new coat I couldn't care less.

Okay, this, I find more than a little creepy... bordering on sick. People get put into psychiatric hospitals for this kind of stuff. I wonder if there are any photos of Stevie carrying around the dolls, or whether it's just rumours. You know, she could have bought a doll somewhere (since we do know she collects them) and was carrying it with her instead of packing it away, and someone started a crazy rumour. I'm not saying you're lying Kelly; I'm just wondering where this story came from. It, frankly, makes Stevie sound like she's completely nuts and disillusional.

It happens all the time and she is old enough to be a Grandmother! The fact it is brought up is because Stevie wants to address it, she is determined to drive that image home.
Well, I think many celeb interviewers aren't that original, and they do tend to ask the same questions. This one's a no-brainer: "You're 57 years old now. When you look back on your life, is there anything you'd do differently?" Or - "You're 57 years old now. You've had an incredibly successful life - but - you never got married and had children. Do you regret this?" This, my friends, is simply a lazy way to try to elicit emotion from the interview subject. So yes, I do believe that she is getting the same lame question all the time.
As for Stevie herself, about how can she go from crying over regrets about not having kids to being satisfied with a dog? She has probably simply accepted reality. Nothing says she won't always wonder what it might have been like - she probably also does realize she never would have had the rock star life she did. Life is about choices. She made hers. Her dog is not a substitution for a child, but she loves her, and she's happy and content as she approaches 60. I know it IS rare, and seems outrageous to some, but not ALL women want or have children. It's a societal assumption that something is "wrong" with a woman who doesn't have kids. Sad, really. Still today, women's success is often measured not by what they've done with their lives and careers, but by whether they've gotten married and had children.

I don't have it to hand but there is a picture of Stevie carrying a doll ... it was in a UK newspaper and it shows her with the doll at the airport. The write up with it said that it was too precious to be packed and she carried it on the plane so it wouldn't get damaged.

There are plenty of photos floating around of Stevie
carrying dolls around with her during the early 80s.
buckinghamnicks.net is probably the best place to look
although there's so many photos that it may take a while
to find. I'll try to post one later.
Stevie herself has flat-out admitted that she went a
little crazy - literally - during that time. (This was after
Robin's death.) So maybe she kinda "regressed" a little
bit as part of the healing process.
And b.t.w. I got absolutely, abominally slammed on
this board for showing even the slightest concern about
Stevie's mental state after her father, who she just
absolutely worshipped and adored, died. In my opinion,
people need to "take some time to know the REAL story -
'cause a soul that's true is your path to glory."
So, yes, as Stevie has admitted publicly, she went a
little nuts for a while. But she's "feeling much better
now."
By the way though, I've heard that celebrities do
"pre-interviews" where they talk about (or list on paper)
what they would like to talk about, and what is off-limits,
etc. So the "never having babies" thing is probably part
of her "list." I've seen celebrities do an interview on Leno
and then the next day be on another talk show and do the
same damn interview!

I can back this up since I have this newspaper article somewhere too. Stevie was carrying the doll on the plane simply because she didn't want to be damaged, not because she was pretending it was her child. She still collects dolls today as we all saw from that story about her visiting that doll shop not too long ago.
Stevie definitely went through a period when she regreted not having a child, but those were the klonopin years and she was having a lot of other problems then as well. I think when her head cleared she probably realised she sacrificed having children for a reason IMO
Pip, do you know if there's anywhere in the UK we can get this mag? I desperately want those pictures!

About the relationship I still find her more reliable than fans' speculations on it. If she said she was with someone one year ago, why shouldn't it be believable? And plenty of famous people are able to hide their relationships when, as someone else have already said, the other person isn't famous. Luckily fans can't know everything.
On the desire to be a mother it's quite common for famous women not to have children, because as she said she should have had to stop, for a couple of years at least, and especially twenty years ago, it wasn't the easiest choice, it always needs, even today, some courage. It's even harder when you're at the top of your success, people around you say you can't and you're having problems with addictions. Then the moment passes, and these women usually regret it. IMO, when someone like Stevie who loves children, decided (at the end it was her decision) not to have them, the simplest thing is to rationalize the choice, as she does in interviews.
To relate this to her passion for dolls sounds creepy to me too. You can love them without thinking of them as your children, I think.

You'd know only if you had a close connection to Stevie -- family or friends.
All the guys Stevie has dated are know to us, the fans, because either Stevie reported it or the press reported & photographed it. Otherwise, only her friends & family & co-workers possibly would know -- in other words, people who see her & talk to her on a daily basis.

I agree.
In the late 80s Stevie was constantly talking about wanting a child and there was even talk of her adopting a baby. But she must have made a decision at some point not to go through with it. She must have decided her career was too important to her or whatever. As for the doll thing, I don't think it's any more creepy than anyone's obsession with collecting thing, albeit guitars, purses or Stevie memorabilia. I think the dolls are just a collection rather than subsitute children. :)
Right - I think you might have misunderstood the point I was making. Carrying around dolls pretending they're children = creepy. Carrying around dolls because you collect them and are transporting a fragile one home instead of putting it in cargo = perfectly normal.

As far as Stevie addressing the topic of not having children, I believe it's because she's admitted previously to both having an abortion and regretting not having kids. But since then, she's made peace with her past decisions and wants to emphasize that she made the right choice.
As far as carrying around dolls and possibly pretending they're her babies, they're her's, she bought them, she can breast feed them for all I care.

I put it in the context in which I still view it. It was around the same time she was crying to Annie Nightengale about children. I do not see her carrying dolls in airports anymore. The time in which she did it, while talking all kinds of other things in the press made the incident more than just "bringing home a doll she bought" to me. If I bought a doll, I would not carry it on a plane like a baby. If you all find that normal, cool. I honestly expected nothing less.

I think this is where the discrepancy is. If she was carrying it like a baby, yes, it's creepy, and frankly, I hope she got psychological help. But it doesn't appear that that is how she was carrying the doll. It appears she was carrying it onto the plane to avoid it being shipped in cargo. Personally, I see a big difference there. And I don't think anyone here suggested that 0 had she been carrying it like a baby - that that was anywhere NEAR cool.
