NEW YORK - Tom Cruise has made an unusual purchase for his fiancee Katie Holmes — one that will let them see the development of their baby. "I bought a sonogram machine," Cruise says on ABC's "Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2005," to air Nov. 29 (10 p.m. EST).
Excerpts of the interview are published in the latest issue of People magazine, on newsstands Friday.
The 43-year-old actor said the couple will do their own sonograms, which show fetus development with ultrasound waves. Cruise said he will donate the machine to a hospital after the baby is born. Sonogram machines range in cost from $25,000 to $200,000.
Holmes' pregnancy was announced in early October. The couple, who have been dating since April, became engaged in June.
"We are gonna get married next summer or early fall," Cruise told Walters. "We don't have a date set yet."
Cruise said he didn't know if the baby is a boy or a girl. He has two children, Connor, 10, and Isabella, 12, from his marriage to Nicole Kidman. It will be the first child for 26-year-old Holmes.

Excluding TC, I hope, b/c judging from how much everyone here has been talking about him, he certainly is fascinating. :)
And I don't see what the big deal with the sonogram machine is. If I had 50 million cazillion bajillion dollars I'd buy everything that struck my fancy, too.

Methinks Tom is OCD about this kid. Wouldn't surprise me if they never stepped foot in a hospital again......deliver the babe at home.....in silence....so no one but him can touch it.
OR
....he's just playing up the media....Katie's not really prego...just a manufactured hump to make her look that way....then secretly adopt when the time is right. :p

I think it's the second one... or maybe there was a turkey baster or some other artificial method used. I can't believe he had his penis in her vagina.

Tom Cruise has been slammed for buying a sonogram machine for his pregnant fiancee Katie Holmes, with health experts warning that he's putting his unborn child at risk. Officials at the American College of Radiology (ACR) are highly concerned by Cruise's revelation that he purchased the device to track his child's progress, and they're warning him that he could be breaking the law if he's carrying out the scans himself. Dr. Carol M. Rumack, of the ACR Ultrasound Commission, says, "This is a patient safety issue. Untrained people, even if they have the financial means, should not buy, or be allowed to buy and operate, ultrasound machines which are, in fact, medical devices and should not be used without a medical indication. Images of the fetus are an opportunity to diagnose problems before birth that may require treatment. These images should be obtained by certified technologists under the supervision of physicians properly trained in ultrasound... The ACR is concerned that Tom Cruise has been badly advised regarding the use and potential abuse of ultrasound. There are many abnormalities that may be missed by the untrained eye. Also, if it is not medically necessary, the use of ultrasound raises unnecessary physical risk to the fetus."
 Someone stop this man before he hurts his child, please.

Jackass. You shouldn't have too many sonograms, it could be harmful. Of course, I don't know the history of sonograms like I'm sure he does. ;)
I would say that Cruise is fascinating cuz he's acting strangly as of late. Did you hear his answer when she asked him if he regretted anything he's said (implying the Matt Lauer interview.) He said (paraphrasing here, I don't remember the exact quote) "No. Not at all. Because it's truth. Since that interview, over 400,000 people have come off of those drugs. So no, I don't regret it."
I almost fell out of bed! Does he truly think that because he was on a TV show badmouthing psychotropic meds that he himself got them off medications? And that they're cured of mental illness? Where are these statistics? Sheebus.
