Round 43: two glam rock legends!
Blecch, I've developed quite a distaste for Bryan Ferry.
Not that Marc Bolan's done much of note recently, but still, better to do nothing than crap-thing.
Besides, without T.Rex, we'd never have gotten Ziggy Stardust out of Bowie. Reason enough for me!

I like both okay, but I totally have to agree. There's nothing like 70's funk.:distress:

Blondie has been covering it on their current tour. I have an MP3 if you want it, though it's not the greatest quality.
I've never heard of these bands.
me neither:shrug:
Zuh?! Surely you both have, you just might have forgotten, or not realized. I don't think they let you exist if you've never heard "Bang A Gong" by T. Rex and "More Than This" by Roxy Music.

you should dl it, STAT!!!! I mean, I don't like it that much, but I still can't believe you never heard it. I think that's the only song I ever heard, whenever it came out. (1988? '87? '86?)

Crikey, that song came out in the early seventies. '72, I believe, but don't quote me.

Omigod, you're right, 1972! good job! It sounded more modern to me.
The phrase "you're dirty and sweet" makes me think I'll vote for them right now. Not having heard any Roxy music, though.

I was also thinking 80s for some reason... maybe I was thinking "Wang Chung" instead of "Bang a Gong".

Okay. Perhaps him has more songs I'd be interested in??? Coming from the perspective that you know everything, of course. :wavey:
Huzzah! *I just love Huzzah*
And why does everyone like Roxy? What are Roxy's famous songs?
Well split my vote because these are 2 of my top 3 favourite bands of all time (guess who's the other).
Shame on all of you!!! I demand everyone buy Electric Warrior by T-Rex and Avalon by Roxy Music RIGHT NOW!!!!
Bang a Gong was T-Rex's only major hit in the US but man, they've got some sex-ayyy music, particularly The Motivator, Life's a Gas and Jeepster. Oh and the reason why we haven't heard much from them recently is because frontman Marc Bolan has been dead for about 28 years.
And Roxy?? Jesus H Christ.....Avalon, Over You, Don't Stop the Dance. And Bryan Ferry's solo stuff is borderline erotic. Sigh....Slave to Love.
Seriously, this is your School of Rock assignment for the weekend and you'll all be better for it.
Oh and the reason why we haven't heard much from them recently is because frontman Marc Bolan has been dead for about 28 years.
Ahh, that's right!
How the hell did I forget a tiny little detail like that?
Sorry Marc...
And why does everyone like Roxy? What are Roxy's famous songs?
Well, I don't really care for Roxy Music all that much, but their most famous song, which I'm sure you've heard and just don't know who it's by, is "More Than This." It's not the lyrics that you'd probably recognize, though, it's more the tune. Kind of a mellow, fey 80s pop vibe. Can somebody post this song?
Wow, I had no idea that Marc Bolan wasn't huge in the States. He's an absolute legend here and not just for Get It On, but also Metal Guru, Ride A White Swan, 20th Century Boy, Children Of The Revolution, Born To Boogie, Hot Love.... the list goes on. Plus he was one of John Peel's all-time favourite artists.
You think the folks here who've never heard of T. Rex will know who John Peel is?
I know T. Rex was never HUGE in the U.S., but I always thought they were one of those bands that people had at least heard of. Especially since there's so many Bowie fans on the Ledge. What do you think he's talking about in "All The Young Dudes"? Dinosaurs?
(I bet a lot of folks have probably heard "20th Century Boy" as well. I think I recall it being mutilated in some commercial or other.)
This is a difficult one, but I'm going to go with Roxy here...even though I do love T-Rex. I happen to think Bryan Ferry is cool, in a really stuffy, over-pretentious way. Plus, he has a really awesome voice, and I LOVE his songs. Marc Bolan was cooler, weirder, and more iconic, and his songs were awesome, but I just think Roxy is more my thing.
I have both box sets, by the way. Highly recommended. F*cking good music.
