Okay, so we all saw Hohan, but that's yesterday's news. What I really want to know is:

How great were Eurhythmics? I was completely blown away, of course. Annie Lennox is back and better then ever.

Thoughts?

I mentioned this on the other thread, but yes- she was so fabulous. Funny, those weren't my two favorite songs of hers, but she really was outstanding. One of the first things I noticed was that she sang in the original (or at least, I thought it was) high register. You know how some older singers (ahem) will lower the register of a song to enable them to sing it? It seemed to me she was right on target. She sounded and looked incredible.

They were incredible. I also liked Cyndi Lauper & Sarah McLachlan (sp.) a lot.

Chesney: please, someone make him go away.

Duff: worst.lip.sync.ever.

McGraw: he doesn't bother me. beter than Chesney, at least.

I missed Urban, Hohan, more stuff while flippin channels.

Agree with all of the above. Although, don't like McGraw nearly as much as I used too. Is it the beard that makes his face look fat?

Damn, I missed my man Keith (picking the little one up from Girl Guides).

I'm really getting pissed at these young girls (Lohan, Hilary, Ashlee Simpson, Raven, Paris, etc.) who think they can sing (or are told to market the music industry and make more money off those poor little girls (like me 10 yr. old daughter) who think they sound good because they don't know any better, milk it for all it's worth and make tons money off their sucker parents (like myself)

Was it really the Spice Girls, or did it start with Bananarama? Or The Bangles? What about NKOTB? Or Backdoor -err, Backstreet Boys? I guess Spice Girls are to blame also.... I didn't watch the AMA's... I just wanted to bitch....:D

Her high notes were a bit cringeworthy at times, but the lady is talented and, go figure, actually sang LIVE last night.

Oh no you DID NOT just toss The Bangles in with that group! Those girls played their own instruments & I believe they wrote much of their own material. As for the rest - bitch away! :)

Now that I think about it, I want a hits CD by them. Runs to find out if there is one.

Teen idols have been around since the begining of rock and roll or even earlier for that matter. Frank Sinatra was a teen idol.

I really enjoyed the Eurythmics! Annie looked and sounded amazing...
But I really tuned in to see Cyn who, as usual, did not disappoint! To the other person who mentioned her sounding like a cooing six month old? Heehee.
I have to admit, I don't like some of her ad-lib vocal exercises, but the woman truly has a hell of a voice.

I'll be Your River is beautiful, but I really prefer the original/demo version. I think that sounded a bit more acoustic than the one on the CD! Can't go wrong with just Cyn and a piano. My favourite, though? Above the Clouds. I can't get enough of that song.

Great to see other She Boppers here! :wavey:

Don't be pissed at the girls. Be pissed at Disney. They are responsible for Duff, and she is one with the least talent. A friend works for the label and it is really all about multimedia marketing...movies, music, merch. And get em while they are young - crank them into as many markets as possible. Lohan isn't on a Disney label, at least I don't think she is. But Disney masterminded that template in the recent wave.

I'll second that emotion. The only difference between Lindsay Lohan and Rob Thomas is that Rob Thomas' fans are old enough that they ought to know better.

They finally showed it over here (altho I didn't see it all)..it was ok. The Eurythmics were good, even if Annie was a bit OTT with stage theatrics,Dave looked cool in his shades... they must be one of the few boy/girl combos to still be around! The Stones were fab too:nod: Is it really 40 yrs since their first hit? WOW!

The Stones were awsome:nod: They had a really bad hook up though, or at least it sounded like it on my TV... I love that they played Rain Fall Down, it's one of the best off the new album. It's just a continuation of the long time love affair they've had with funk.

Well excuse those of us who appreciated an individual who put his whole heart and soul into a song about his wife and the trials and tribulations they were having with her medical condition at one point in time. It was obvious that the guy was feeling every word he sang! I picked up on this, as did others. And what the **** is so cheesy about that?! But thanks for your input....DAD! :wavey:

That is indeed very sweet. I'm sure Rob Thomas is a great husband and probably a very nice guy all around. And I'm sure there are lots of other all-around nice guys out there who are also bland songwriters.

I really don't think all of his music is dull and cheesy. I was wild about matchbox twenty in high school and saw them live and all that but since then I can hardly bring myself to listen to the music. Oddly enough, (considering this dialogue started kind of randomly) I pulled out their debut album the other day to try to decide how I felt about it. The music itself doesn't grab me and his voice doesn't either. But there are some insightful lyrics there, IMO. Some of the songs are too angsty but others are very powerful, I think. A lot of that is cancelled out by the vocals that are sometimes aggravating and the music that can be quite bland, but I don't think you're giving the guy enough credit.

I agree that that first matchbox twenty (or is it 20?) album really isn't all that bad, though it did start to sound very same-y after a few listens. "Real World," "3 AM" and "Push" - are these really three different songs? I suppose they were catchy, at least.

I saw the video for Rob Thomas' over the summer, and my friend and I just turned to each other and agreed, "Well... there's nothing bad about this song." But we couldn't think of anything else at all to say about it. That about sums it up, for me.

I'm sure you're right. You know, I'm not even that "big" of a Rob Thomas fan, with or without Matchbox 20. I think I do have their single "Bent" which was released a few years ago. There's been a few tunes he/they have done that I've liked and I thought his collaboration with Santana was good. Generally speaking I can't really defend him as an good songwriter or a great vocalist because I'm just not that familiar with all of his work. BUT, I was totally moved by his performance on the AMAS. I did like the song he did, "Ever The Same", both lyrically and musically, to the point where I'm probably going to go out and pick up the cd it's on. Bottom line is, I guess even "bland songwriters" can give killer live performances once in awhile. :)
