I was listening to the radio and they brought up a good point about this movie. They say it is being targeted towards straight women because they are the only ones "safe" to see it in the movies and drag their boyfriends along. Anyone else who goes would be perceived as gay and that will deter a lot of moviegoers. They also said there may be a rise in gaybashing from people going to see this movie; the perception will be that those people are gay and some may target those people who buy tickets to the movie or as they exit the movie. I'm not sure how I feel about the comments they made, but it's something to think about, what's your take on that? I, for one, could care less what people think, say or do.

How is the movie being targeted towards straight women? I'm confused. It's simply a story about "forbidden love," if you will. If it seems like it's more for women than for gay men, that may have something to do with the fact that the story on which the movie is based was written by a woman.

Yes, I will see this movie in the theater, and I will be accompanied by two friends, one a straight woman, the other a gay man.

Hi. This is my first post but I have been lurking at this forum for quite some time. It will be extremely stupid to gay bash someone if they see this movie with gay male characters in it. I have watched movies where women acting in the movie have kissed each other on the mouth and it didn't lead to any violence against the people in the audience who watched it. I also watched Far From Heaven and Dennis Quaid played a gay man in it. There are no reports that I know of that said that there were gay bashings as a result of people watching this movie, either.

Just to be clear - I'm simply repeating what was said on the radio for everyone to offer their thoughts. These are NOT by opinions or comments.

Oh, and welcome Chris#1fan. Glad to have ya.

I didn't think the movie had been released yet.

They showed the trailer for it when I saw "Walk the Line" and that movie just opened on Friday.

I agree with you.

However, I do think that there is a clear difference between a love scene or sexual relations between two women versus two men. For some reason, society, in general, take two women a lot less seriously than two men. And I'm not familiar with Far From Heaven, but I doubt it had as much hype as this movie does which led to less people knowing what it was about and the content.

I don't think that gays would have any second thoughts about seeing this movie.

I plan on being there with bells on.

And possibly 3D glasses, too.

I'll be seeing it in the theater. The only worries I have is that it's being overhyped and won't live up to being as fantastic as everyone is saying it is.

Well, considering you hate just about everything to the point of using words like wretched, vile, horrid, bile churning, etc. to describe what usually the vast majority of people find okay, odds are you will hate it

from what I've heard from people who've seen early screenings is that it is good...more romance and heartbreak than actual Heath on Jake action (or Jake on Heath)

Oh, that's okay. Heath Ledger is ass, anyway. I just want to see a really good movie. There are so many good ones coming out, I haven't been this excited for holiday movie season in ages.

Two of those movies are not very good. I will leave you to guess which ones.

Memoirs of a Geisha and Match Point? ;)

I am counting the seconds until I can see this movie. If it's even close to the short story, it will be wonderful.

I just remembered the other movie that I want to see that comes out on Dec. 2nd., besides the snowboarding one - First Descent -

Aeon Flux!
I hope it doesn't suck.
Sharon? Does it suck?

I saw the trailer when I saw "Derailed" and it looked...um...blah. On the upside, though, the cartoon just came out on DVD today.

That is good. Do you know if it's just what was available before, or if it's more? Nevermind, I'll check.
The commercials look okay, though - and what's weird is her voice sounds like Aeon's from the animation...
I dunno, it might not be super great, but it looks like if it's even kinda good that I'll definitely want to see it in the theater. There should be tons of cool stunts and weird future world things....
I swear, in the next few weeks I could easily spend obscene amounts of money going to movies. I'll definitely have to eschew movie snacks. :p
I mean, I really don't want to see First Descent, Aeon Flux, or Narnia on a small screen...

I've seen it, it's a love story with some very honest sex scenes, the director didn't intend it as a "gay movie" (whatever it is, it's a silly definition for me) but as a universal reflection on a very deep relationship. The fact the leading characters are both men is it really that important?

I will be there to see it, many times, I suspect. I think those radio commentators are idiots. Either that or they live in the hinterlands or the 60's. I wish someone would flip me some **** after the movie. I would love to kick someone's ass.

Two friends have seen Geisha and said it is fantastic. I am going to a screening next Tueday.

I saw Match Point a few weeks ago and enjoyed it quite a bit.

Jonathyn Rhys-Meyers was, in my opinion, not very good...I couldn't tell if that was what he was going for with the character, but he just seemed kind of awkward and uncomfortable. But his character was too...I don't know. It just didn't seem natural to me.

He's quite fun to look at though.

I've been waiting for this film for a while.
If it doesnt live up to the hype, that's cool. I want my "gay $" to go towards box office of what I consider to be an important film.

I'm not a fan of Rhys-Meyer to begin with, so I wasn't expecting anything worthwhile from him. I'm mostly excited to see it because it's a big departure from anything Woody has done. Glad to hear it was good!

I haven't seen it! It looks seriously cool though.
Narnia is a little disappointing too btw.
awww. I'm crushed. :distress: Yet vindicated. :)
