I just always feel so alone in the days of new Harry Potter launchings...
I never have been able to stomach those books, nor the films, and my opinion is such an unpopular one, so I just usually stay quietly in a corner to avoid being asked what I thought, since people get so very passionate about them...
Oh well, this too shall pass again, right? :)

I didn't like them before last year, either. And i've only seen two of the movies, including the recent one.
My point is - who cares? I never did.
I would call the books inferior to, say, the Narnia series, and the Wrinkle in Time series - at least.
But if you like to read, you'll find the books good fun (simple, but fun - easy light reading.)
I can't really comment much on the movies.
But don't feel left out. I was the same for years. I urge you, if you want, to read one of the books. If you don't like it, then fine. If you do, great. It's not like it's hard, complicated reading. Then at least you'll know what the fuss is about and can judge for yourself (which is why I read the books).
:) :woohoo: :wavey:

I read the first and second one... and saw the first 2 movies, since I was still working as a drama therapist with children and really needed to be at least a bit in the know....
But yes, I also feel they cannot hold a candle to say, Narnia and Wrinkle in Time for sure, and legio others. :)
I'll live through it, again... I always do without hurting too many folk's feelings, I think, at least! :D

I have not seen one of them yet so you're not alone. From the little I have seen of the films while channel surfing I thought they looked kind of childish .I loved the Lord of The Rings though so it's not like I'm not a fan of this genre .I have kind of mixed feelings about Narnia too though but if the reviews are good I'll probably see it.

Oh, sorry, I didn't think you were so familiar with them.
Legio?
What's that?
I love good young adult fantasy fiction...
Hey, if you've read some Harry, and seen some Harry, and you still don't like it - then embrace that. It's not like it's the most brill thing ever. No big.
I used to feel like you. Like, "WTF?" It couldn't be that great.
Turns out I was right - but it's still enjoyable. to me. but I understand why it wouldn't be. To some people. Cause even I don't think it's way brill.

I finally read the first Harry Potter book about 2 years after it came out, just to see what the big deal was. It was okay. But I never had any desire to read another or see one of the movies. However, despite my love of all things Stevie and Fleetwood Mac, I am not one to become obsessed - with anything.

I think it's a typo - I think she meant "legions of others."

Ha yes, legio as in "legions" indeed and thank you for the company in my non-adoration

I'm right with you. Harry Potter books and films are so over rated. Fantasy has gotten huge in pop culture recently, especially film. Back in the 70's and 80's fantasy was a guaranteed flop for the most part. I was into fantasy when I was a wee kid in the 70's and 80's. I think there are so many better fantasy stories and series.

I used to be obsessed with the Harry Potter books. Now I don't really like them anymore. I didn't read the sixth book and I don't really want to.
I didn't plan on seeing the new movie either, but all my friends were seeing it so I decided to give into peer pressure and go with them. It was actually better than I expected.

haven't read/seen and probably won't be doing either any time soon.
the only reason i see in watching the movies is one Alan Rickman. and even that's not been enough.
and though it could be a major disappointment, i'm looking forward to Narnia. i read the books as a child and then again last year.

The only reason I'm interested in the movies at all, is because I love Alan Rickman. When the books first came out, I was into them. But then HP-mania exploded, and it was everywhere. It just got so annoying at times. Harry this, magic that, Muggle whatever! Turned me right off of it for awhile. I am going to see the new one sometime this week, since unlike many of my friends, I can wait that long without bursting an artery.

Alan Rickman is wasted in these movies. In fact, all the adults are. Just quick little snippets.
Time to watch 'Closet Land' yet again. I get a BIG does of the genius of Mr. Rickman with this film.

Have you ever seen "Close Your Eyes" with Alan Rickman? I thought that was quite good. Very strange. I bought it blindly after reading the DVD cover and figured that it wouldn't be half bad with Rickman and Clive Owen in it, and I was pleasantly surprised.

Oh, don't even get me STARTED on Closet Land!!
Love it to bits. Interrogator Alan. Just... Wow. I haven't seen the movie in full, but the parts I have seen? I can never look at tomato and garlic in quite the same way.
in regards to HP, I think Snape needs a bigger role in the movies. If he were in it half as much as Maggie Smith (I adore her also), I'd be satisfied.

I saw the DVD of the first movie, and it was pretty good, as far as fantasy kids' fare goes.
I haven't read any of the books, nor do I plan to (I'm just not really interested, and I have too much other stuff on my plate), but I'll take it on everybody else's word that they're good stuff. And anything that encourages kids and young adults to read 700-page novels is a boon to society, as far as I'm concerned.
