That's the back cover to my copy. What does the back cover on your copy look like?
And the cut-out spine on that scan made me cackle like nobody's business.

Lol, yes, it must go down as one of the most cheaply designed cd covers of all time.
Its so weird that both of yours are like that. Mine does not have any numbering for the tracks, track 10 on mine only says "Maybe Love" - not "Maybe Love Will Change Your Mind" - Mine also does not say that The Executive Producer Is Parrish - Seeing this was the first time i had heard of him!!

That's really bad photo editing. We've had better CD covers designed during our first semester in Multimedia Design. Granted, that was 2001, and the technologies available were a bit more advanced, but still!

Mine looks a bit different with other fonts on no track numbers before the tracks! And on my cover there is also not that much legal crap under the tracks! That is probably because my album was not released by Atlantic, mine was released by EMI UK!

I think David (WizNicks) answered it. Her stuff was distributed by EMI in Europe and Atlantic in the States back then. It's not unusual for two different record companies to handle different territories. Obviously EMI didn't need all the Atlantic copyright stuff on the European release so gave it a quick re-design. :)
It's unfortunate that they didn't give it a quick overhaul. The cover to Street Angel has to rank amongst the worst album covers of all time. Shoddy design, embarrassing photos, etc. It reeks of Chris Nicks.

While I'm not a huge fan of the back cover of the CD, I think the front cover is exquisite, tho I can't explain why. I love it. I do wish it had more of a "design" but as for the picture of Stevie on the front, I love it.

It is a gorgeous picture - so emotional. But I agree, the whole design kills the picture. I have those fonts on Microsoft Publisher
The design reminds of the Enchanted Box Set - What was stevie thinking letting her brother design her album covers??

I agree..I especially hate that awful black lettering just smacked over the photo. The poster version is nicer because it's all done in pink..including the lettering. They really should have done it that way for the album cover itself.

You know what really bugs? The title of the album is printed in a font that matches nothing, as is her name. It hurts my corneas.
The pink-hued photos of her are just dire. Looking at that album cover makes you wonder what the hell the contents of the album could possibly be (and if you're brave enough to find out). She's wrapped up in lacy, flowing fabric with a look of pure sadness plastered across her mug. She also appears to be huddled in the corner, contemplating her depression like some woman-child who was just clued in to the fact that her parents took her teeth from under her pillow and not the Tooth Fairy. Quite unsightly.
Flip it over and you have those wide, scary doe-eyes looking at you, giving off quite a guttural feeling of uneasiness. Not to mention the pouty lips that give Barbara Hershey in "Beaches" a run for her money.

I read part of "The Autobiography of an Attitude" at the library a few years back. I wonder if it was reprinted past the twenties (or was it published in the thirties?) because the one I flipped through was as old as dirt. Wasn't he married to Julie Haydon?

I just think the album was meant for me. It's my music...my lyrics...my lifestyle. My life is one big "medicore" pop song. I'm corny when I try to be serious...When it comes to love, which I want, I end up messing it up...on purpose? Sometimes. 'Street Angel' is not an actual homeless person. It is a construct thought up in the web of Stevie's mind that means her romanticized idea of a street person. And which also, as usual, allows you to totally add your own meaning. :) Luckily, in the lyrics, she doesn't get graphic about Street People. That's the whole thing. And of course, ultimately and as per usual, she is really somehow singing about herself. Which is why none of her songs are really dark. They're just overemotional, dramatic, and self absorbed. I love it. I love it. :wavey:

No. You have to be Stevie. You can't judge Stevie on outside world concerns. It's futile. (I mean, you can, but you won't have the essence of Stevie, then ~*wyndchyld!*~) Seriously, do you really think Stevie's Street Angels are homeless???
I didn't used to like the song as much, but I liked it okay. In the past few years I've really grown a huge appreciation for it - the bandwork and production is unusual (and, actually, I guess we could say the lyrics are, too) and I like that. It's very moody. It's still slow, which counts against it, but it gets all the kudos from me that it could.
Foxyluva - thank you, that's how I think of Stevie. :) And you are right about her production - her lyrics are mostly similar, so production (and note/band choices, IMO) can really make or break a Stevie song.

Yay! Your welcome, production is the most important thing for stevie's songs, i agree, without good production the song can fall flat - the whole Street Angel album is proof!
I really love the song Street Angel also, the minimal beat and the tapping of the tambourine is beautiful - "Ive been walking under rainbows, too long to tell.."

Blergh. It appears we have opposite tastes. Which everyone does when it comes to Stevie. Like, Maybe Love pisses me off.
So, rock on, I don't like TISL much (about 5 songs) you don't like SA much.
I usually listen to SA when it's raining. Just a little tip... :wavey:
I think its good when people disagree - it makes for a more lively discussion :) , but I really like "maybe love" - but i really dont like "Docklands" or "Unconditional Love" among others, but Im glad to see we both agree on the song Street Angel :xoxo: - Funny you should say you listen to it when its raining - i had it on in the car on the way to and from uni when it was raining, and this is where i discovered i actually like "Maybe Love" :]
p.s. - TISL is a great album, the only negatives are Too far from texas, Its only Love and Everyday (Spew material) lol

Duh. It's what she does, it's who she is. To think otherwise is folly.
But don't forget, though that's true, most of her songs contain much dramatic emotional pain.
I want to see and hear her romanticize domestic abuse. That would be all kinds of f*ucked up and crazy. I can see it now..."Safe House Angel".
Well, we all have those Stevie tastes. For instance, Towie like Desert Angel. Who can explain that? Does it mean towie is less cool? NO! No one ever likes all the same Stevie stuff anyways...

"Desert Angel" isn't all that bad- the bridge stinks (most Stevie "bridges" stink anyways, the chick doesn't know how to write 'em)- the Operation yadda yadda stuff is a little over the top... But, the verses are excellent.

Well, I like about half the songs on it. Overall though...the '80s synthesizer/keyboards that are all over it seriously work my nerves. I Will Run to You is probably the worst offender there. Then, there's a pair of real lyrical turkeys: Gate & Garden and Sable on Blond.
"There is a gate...and it has a garden...well, it is not heaven...and it can be guarded."
and
"Learn to be a stranger...blond on blond...in silence she says...excalibur."
If anyone can explain to me what the f*ck she's singing about, I will toss your salad. It's like she just picked random words and wrote them down.

In a way, I agree with you. Her lyrics stopped making a whole lot of sense after the BD album. But part of the fun in listening to her later stuff, for me, is that her lyrics are so inane. However, sometimes it just rubs me the wrong way, as is the case with so many of the songs on TWH.

She isn't exactly gonna confirm this, but I think this is about marriage and sex. Marry me, open the gate...welcome to my garden...maybe it ain't heaven, but if I hold back and don't put out and guard it for a bit...then maybe it WILL be like heaven. "
and
"Learn to be a stranger...blond on blond...in silence she says...excalibur."
I think this may mean removing yourself from a situation that no longer works, and the blonde on blonde is a Bob Dylan reference. Maybe that represents a certain part of her life when she was distanced from the situation to which she is referring. As far as excalibur, it is usually signifying using your tried and true secret weapon. Which for her is, what ? Playing an A minor chord on a piano and singing about something mysterious ?
Ultimately, these are phrases pulled out the air or journals, somewhat random and vague - she probably couldn't even tell you what they mean.
