I think most folks who DON'T like it are just "chiffon snobs".

Yay - Thanks!! I did enjoy it, but the back up singers were a little shrill in places!

This is actually a good cover from Rod. It's a tad bit slower. The music sounds a bit more raw, kinda like how Stevie would have had the song in it's early form. I think he did a good job.

I actually like the song myself. I love the way it starts. I'm not a big fan of Rod, but I like what he did with the song...and yeah, the background singers were a little much in places.

I can't believe it but I LOVE this ! And I am the worst when it comes to anybody covering Stevie's songs - as a rule I hate them. Love the synth, the arrangement, the sistahs singin back up, and Rod changing the words . He apparantly didn't refer to the lyric sheet and couldn't understand what she was really saying. After all who could?
Love the fading out into guitar and then synth at the end! Brilliant job Rod. Cheers!
I'm off to listen again..

Love these lyrics:

"Do not turn away my friend
Like a river I can bend
No one calls out my name
And no one came
So I walked on down the line and waited for you
Maybe your protected from all that you do
One girl, did not call
She asked me for my love and that was all"

Like a river I can bend makes better senes than like a willow .

I love me some Rod Stewart but I really don't like his version of Stand Back. That song is meant to be sung by Stevie and Stevie only. (And of course Sharona in the background :) )

Oh, the horror!

Sorry to those that like it, but I find it quite hideous.

I've known about this cover for years, but this was the first time I've ever heard it... and I have to say I quite like it.
It's different and has a cool groove. Very "Rod Stewart"... which is good, because an artist SHOULD infuse a cover song with their own personality, or there's no reason to cover it in the first place (not that that doesn't sometimes backfire though).

It gets the "Johnny Stew Seal of Approval." ;)

I think it is a really passionate cover...is Rod a Stevie fan or has he ever mentioned her in interviews because from this that is the impression I get.

Thanks for posting this. I had no idea Rob the Bod had even recorded this song. I thought it was pretty good, IMHO.:]

That song is meant to be sung by Stevie and Stevie only.

Yes, truly it is far too distinctive a work of art for anyone else to even consider trying to repeat it. Rod Stewart might as well have attempted to re-paint The Persistence of Memory.

From a self-confessed chiffon-snob ... I have to admit I like it... I REALLY like it!!

As has been said, Stevie's the only one that can really sing it. But I think he's done a class job.

I first heard this in a shop [while I was looking at a Stevie-ish skirt, interestingly enough] and I nearly dropped dead -- someone covering Stand Back? Disgraceful. I first thought it was Lulu but I didn't have time to hear it all. Now I listen to all of it, I really enjoyed it ... going on the MP3 player straight away.

The slowed ending is brilliant ...

Thanks for posting this ... nice one, Rod.
