Anyone watch? I missed them, I was watching other stuff. Now I'm pissed that I did! Heard it was really good, as far as performances go. Does anyone know if they ever rebroadcast it? On CMT, perhaps?
My friend at work went & ended up standing at the entrance when the stars were coming in. She saw Faith & Tim, Gretchen Wilson, Keith Urban, more I can't think of - they were about 3 feet away from her! She did say she saw Larry King & he looks like a corpse.
Christy - she said Keith spent about 30 minutes with the crowd, shaking hands & signing stuff. :)

It wasn't bad at all. I enjoyed watching it, and I'm not really a country music fan. I wish Alabama would've sung though when they were inducted into the hall of fame.

I didn't even know the CMA's were on. Not that I ever watched it, anyway.
Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban were here in Boston last week. The pictures of them out and about are hella funny.

I watched, it was pretty good. Missed Shania presenting Keith with Entertainer of the Year award though, that pissed me off. Tim and Faith make me sick. Way too much Leanne Wombat, hate her too. Keith rocked and it was nice to see Bon Jovi there. Off topic, did anyone catch the Tribute to Johnny Cash last nite? Sheryl Crow was on and I thought she was terrible.

I watched it. It will be re-broadcast on CMT on Thanksgiving Day.
Most of the performances were good. Sara Evans sounded a little hoarse and was having a case of Jessica Simpson arms. Martina McBride was gorgeous as ever. Faith and Tim sounded good and looked good, though Mr. McGraw has packed on a few lbs lately...and I wasn't digging his scarf. Lee Ann Womack looked good and sounded great, tho she needs to put on one less layer of makeup and wear a bodyslimmer. Dierks Bentley was awesome. I love him. Gretchen Wilson gets on my nerves, she was boring. Sugarland was good, but geez, the lead singer looked like she was having sex and I can only take her voice in small doses. When she came back out to sing with Bon Jovi, I was like, oh god, not again, but it was a good song. I wish Alabama had performed. Their songs are great memories from my childhood with my Dad. I was shocked that the African-American man that basically changed the name to the Grand Ole Opry was just NOW inducted into the Hall of Fame...kinda strange to me. Glen Campbell looked like **** and his wife was like my age. Keith Urban is amazingly gracious, gorgeous, talented beyond belief. I love love love Dolly and her rendition of Imagine, but something was off with her and Elton. It was almost like they didn't know each other's parts, but good. Definitely not the climax that Dolly is known for at country award shows. I feel like I've left someone out, but that's all I can think of at the moment.

but seeing the lineup of musicians I passed on it...I did record Keith Urban's performance of "Better Life" and it is very obvious he is battling vocal ailments.
Glad he won Male Vocalist & Entertainer of the Year since he is more talented than 99% of the other artists who were nominated.

won female vocalist, I believe that was a mulligan award!
Man, She is much hated here in Oklahoma...Which is the largest country music market of the US (Diehard traditional is making a comeback here and the "new country" is getting slowly flushed away), I heard a listeners poll on a local country station that the 3 most disliked country artists of listeners of this particular station were: #1-Dixie Chicks, #2-Gretchen Wilson & #3-Big & Rich
As for Gretchen Upchuck I found the following blog entry online in regards to be funny as hell:
"In case you're unfamiliar with Gretchen Wilson and her music, I offer this brief synopsis of her work: Wilson's music is the sonic equivalent of prison rape ... during a root canal ... performed by an unlicensed, blind dentist ... while being forced to dine on British cuisine. Except that watching some dude get his butt violated is a helluvalot more entertaining than listening to this dumb bitch further retardify country music"

I was trying to watch this to record Keith, AND watch My Name is Earl/The Office. Whew...talk about running back and forth from the kitchen TV to the living room. Sheesh. LOL
Anyways, Keith's been having voice problems, he needs a rest ASAP. He's been touring forever. Poor lil guy. :(
Dolly and Elton. No, just....no. I love Miss Dolly to death, but NEVER EVER sing with Elton again. That sounded horrid.
I heard they cut off Alabama's speech. Jerkwads! Wrap THIS up. They are friggin' legends of country! They did that to Sinatra too!
Gretchen winning female vocalist of the year...BAH. She's a one-trick pony. Martina deserves it every frickin' year, if you ask me.
These awards were kind of blah....until Keith won Male Vocalist and EOTY, that is. ;) HEHE!! Don't know HOW he didn't win Album of the Year, because Be Here has had like 4 #1 singles (soon to be 5, I'm sure). Lee Ann...whatev.

not represent "traditonal country", And that will never fly in this market. Deb & myself counted about 14 country stations on our car radio and only 1-2 play any new country, But those stations are not powerhouse stations who have the large amount of listeners.
Matter-of-fact, Gretchen Wilson & Big & Rich were to headline an arena show at the OKC Ford Center about a year or so ago and only about 3,000 tickets were sold, The concert was reportedly cancelled due to poor tickets sells. (They both have since played here opening for other artists and even then the reviews were less than positive for both.)
On the otherhand George Strait played the Ford Center and completely sold out tickets (Around 21,000 seats) within 3 hours! The only other concerts to have numbers anywhere as near as George Strait were Paul McCartney (14,000 est), Fleetwood Mac (16,000 est) & local yokel Toby Keith (12,000 est).
If you're not traditional country, you aint s**t in this state.

to quote a phrase (Cant recall where that came from  ), Cant stand her...
Deb said that G.Upchucks song "Redneck Woman" doesnt represent her, And that song is rather insulting to those women who are truly "Southern gals".
Upchuck is from Illinois, Sorry...Illinois is NOT redneck country (Sure as hell aint Southern), try going to my hometown of MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA (yes, Muskogee as in "Okie from Muskogee" by Merle Haggard) and try that posuer redneck hick honey attitude and watch how fast yer ass gets pummeled and/or hucklebucked by real redneck women

I'd rather hear them than anything on a rock or pop station these days. It's time to rattle Nashville's cage.

Chicagoland might not be, but you get far enough south, and Illinois is one big redneck zoo.

I'm from Southern IL and that's pretty true, though not as much so in the metro East. When I moved to Kentucky people treated me like a "Yankee," which suprised me, because culturally, the two areas are very similar.

GAG. There's not shaking anyone's cage. It's a mockery of country music. It's one big publicity stunt. And it's just like listening to anything on a pop station....one big gimmick for sales.
Coming to Your City is one the of worst songs I have ever heard.

Gretchen is going to be around for a long time. Shes just like Madonna to some sorts. Just because both are trashy, they are hated by many. If Gretchen was more sugar coated and G rated like the rest, no one would have anything negative to say about her.
To say her 15 minutes are about over is ignorant. One show did not sell well no big deal, just look at her record sales.
Sara Evans is beautiful and can sing well, but she bores me to tears. Anyone else could replicate her performance and sing better.

The whole MuzikMafia is carrying on in the tradition of Bocephus, Waylon Jennings & Willie Nelson. Country music NEEDS people like that to make sure that there's more to country music than the "cookie cutter" crap that comes out of Nashville. Same with Dwight Yoakam...he was CONSPICUOUSLY absent from the procedings on Tuesday.

Off topic, did anyone catch the Tribute to Johnny Cash last nite? Sheryl Crow was on and I thought she was terrible.
They had a chance to really make that a good show by honoring Johnny Cash with some real country stars doing his songs. Instead they put Kid Rock and Jerry Lee Lewis together to ruin the song and then there was Sheryl. Her performance alone made me change channels.
As for the CMA's, for some reason the performances were a bit lackluster this year and I'm not sure if all their earpieces were malfunctioning but most sounded off key.

but the industry is moving back towards "traditional country" (Lee Ann Womack's "Album of the Year" win at the CMA's is proof of that) which means the MuzikMafia may be in for a uphill battle (I hate Gretchen Upchuck, I like Big & Rich's music just not them & a rapping Cowboy has been done before with failing results back in the early 90's)
Now Dwight Yoakam, Along with Gary Allan & Cross Canadian Ragweed, are the kind of artists country music does need...But unfortunately they will never get the publicity from having the likes of CMT asskissing 'em.
(Btw, my dislike of Gretchen Wilson has nothing to do with her popularity, I dont care for hardly any female country artists...Only one I have a disc of is Jamie O'Neal and the only other I like is Miranda Lambert who was very rocking in concert.)

Nope, I chose not to waste money on that album. It's actually the only one of hers that I don't own.
