My BF just got this new Martina McBride cd today. It's her doing covers of timeless country classics. Now I'm not a country music fan, but this woman is really special. She does such a good job on these songs, including Rose Garden. I'm just curious if anyone else has bought the cd, and what you think of Martina in general. I would go to see her in concert again in a heartbeat. WHAT AN AMAZING VOICE!!

did you see the crossroads with MM and Pat Benatar? wow! I hadn't really considered her too much until I saw that. They sounded awesome together, and MM has an incredible voice!

I haven't bought the CD, but I do like Martina's voice. She can really wail.

Regarding your sig, I recently saw that an item of JFK's sold at auction for $120,000. It was a watch from Marilyn with "With love as always, from Marilyn" engraved on the back. It came with a note from JFK saying "Get rid of it." which allegedly was in reference to the watch - a Rolex. So sad. :distress:

GREENWICH, Conn. Oct 18, 2005 — A watch that Marilyn Monroe reportedly gave President Kennedy as a birthday gift has fetched $120,000 at an auction.

The gold Rolex is inscribed: "Jack, With love as always from Marilyn May 29th 1962." Kennedy was born May 29, 1917.

Bill Panagopulos, founder of the Alexander Autographs auction house, said the buyer was an East Coast collector, but he didn't release a name.

Thanks for the link, Suze. That's interesting. I remember this summer some of her belongings were being auctioned and one of them was a painting she reportedly did for JFK, but she changed the dedication to him to her own birthday.

Good because he didn't deserve it.

Yeah, although she was partially responsible for getting involved with him, of course. It saddens me today that she is mostly known for her affair with him. :(

Have you ever read Blonde by Joyce Carol Oates? The chapter detailing MM's relationship with JFK was pretty brutal.

No, I haven't read that one, I have read a couple of others though. It is very sad. Being he was in such a position of power though most of the blame lies with him IMO. The whole scandal saddens me as well.

I highly recommend it; it is a very compelling read. I think the JFK chapter is mostly made-up, but Oates sure presents him as a snake.

I read it very enjoyable book and I am a fan of Ms. Oates .However I thought the part about the JFK goon or secret service guy choking her out and then raping her when she asked a question about Cuba may have been a bit too much artistic license....Back on topic i had the Martina CD in my hand and put it back and bought something else instead because at that moment I thought it was probably good but not as good as if Patty Loveless had done it .I still may buy it yet though.
