I really, REALLY don't get this. WHY would you want turkey, salmon, mashed-potato flavored soda- why? I don't even like salmon flavored salmon, let alone salmon flavored soda. Sorry, but I think the world has gone nuts.

That is so weird. I can't imagine what it would taste like.. I'd like to try, actually. Like a bubbly salmon gravy? Very strange.
Then again, I read this recipe somewhere for chicken in coca cola, which is supposed to be delicious. Huh?

You're right, Mari. But cola marinating chicken doesn't sound as bad as chicken in the cola, for some reason. :p

Actually it is pretty good. If you throw in some fajita spices you can marinate beef or chicken in it. I used to make fajitas that way and they were pretty good. It tenderizes the meat as well.

Kind of, yes. It depends on what kind of spices you use with it. It has that sweet/spicy kind of taste.

I've marinated chicken in maple syrup. Now that makes for some sweet tasty chicken.

This reminds me of a rather decadent snack a friend of mine taught me to make:
* brie
* french bread
* maple syrup
* sliced almonds
Take the brie and smear the syrup on it then cover it with the almonds. Bake it for about 20 min at 350 or however long it take to melt the cheese. Then tear off chunks of the bread and smear the concoction on them. Mmmmm...

I've seen last years versions sell on e-bay for up to $30.00. I just saw these this morning in Target. I tried the Halloween themed flavors this year. They had candy corn, caramel apple, strawberry slime, and scary blue lemonade. Nothing too odd. I have to admit, I'm a little curious to see what turkey and gravy soda might taste like. I guess it's a little like those every flavor jellybeans inspired by the ones in Harry Potter. My friend tricked me into eating the "ear wax" flavored one once. I wonder who does the product research on these types of things? I mean, can you imagine being the guy who has to taste test the jelly beans and decide when they taste most like boogers or ear wax? :eek:

How can you go to Whole Paycheck and even discuss cheap ?:lol:
I can't imagine what TJ's you went to. The first few times I went I had to try things out. It was a matter of finding the stuff I liked. They have killer cheap frozen entrees and excellent salads. I am also a big fan of their water and other fluids. The one by me has very reasonable fruit. I eat blueberries, grapes, strawberries and the like year round. When whole paycheck is charging 5 bucks for a tiny container of raspies or blueberries the same one is 2.29 at TJ's. Anyway....90% of my food comes from that place. And the vitamins are an amazing bargain too. To each their own, Frank.:shrug:

Our whole foods isn't that expensive. Or I don't get expensive food there. Or I only get a little bit of expensive food. Or something.
I shop at Safeway, too.
If I had a car, I'd probably hit the other Joe's. It's in Berkeley/Oakland somewhere. Not by BART, though, obviously. I think that one has produce.
It's true, though, there are those occasional shocking times when suddenly whatever I got at Whole Foods, like 5 things, cost 70 dollars...:laugh: That's mainly when I buy tea, and shampoo, and face stuff, and brie, and rosemary crackers (to go with the brie). Things like that.

But seriously, you must get a container of their two bite lemon poppyseed scones. They melt like buttah in your mouth. It's really weird. They seem solid, but when you bite them, the texture is like powdered sugar. They are seriously melty. You'll die.
So good, so addictive. $5.99 for a little tub. They also have cranberry orange ones, but I've never gotten those.

Hmm, you should be able to find a better deal on Brie at TJ's. I don't know if I think it is cheap, but the kinds of things I buy there would be more expensive elsewhere. Organic milk, and yogurt is much cheaper there than either Safeway, or Whole paycheck. Good pasta from Italy, or organic vegetable stock, or organic jams, olive oil, vinegar, losts more things are less expensive then in most stores. Whole Paycheck could be cheap if you buy bulk things, or things on sale, and the same goes for the New Leaf near me, or the Berkeley Bowl.
When the TJs opened in SF, it was a lot cheaper than the other food stores, because there prices were the same in all of their stores throughout CA (I don't think this is true anymore) and at that time the food in SF was super expensive, whether from a corner market ($$gasp) or from Safeway.

but almond butter sucks so significantly? And is so heinous?

yeah, eggs. No. We had them, but not to excess.
My mom wouldn't by any processed meat, either. :confused: No bologna sandwiches for me! (nitrates & nitrites!).
Apparently I only had tuna or cheese sandwiches...PBJ a lot....but only natural PBJ, with all the oil on top...
Another thing that was against the rules was processed cheese slices. Only real blocks of cheese for us. And - never, ever, ever ate margarine. Only real butter. And only whole milk. And never non dairy creamer.
Isn't childhood weird?
When we went to restaurants, my mom would say "Is this real milk? I'm allergic to non dairy creamer...." (for coffee) :laugh:
It was fun right then to learn that I could just lie about small inconvenient things...:laugh: Also included in that category was answering the phone and saying "oh, I'm sorry, she's in the tub!" :laugh:
Pardon me, these things make me laugh now...

Well then!!!
Lentils are more nutritious than white beans, nanny nanny! :laugh:
They are indeed. You will live longer, lentil eater.
Isn't childhood weird?
We had only real dairy, and Raw milk (and that is expensive now!). I once went to some afterschool event and told the organizers that I wasn't allowed to have Kool Aid, and they all felt sorry for me.

Very clever, and infinitely useful Of course, everyone knows I talk on the phone in the tub, so that wouldn't work for me. I have used the allergy thing to get better plane food though.
I am going to go eat some almond butter and retire for the morning. yawn.:xoxo:

I knew someone nasty would grab that one, and you did not disappoint me.
In addition to providing you with a double entendre, I was trying to save time in typing. I like their flavored fizzy water, the french market berry lemonade, the orange flavored french market stuff, rice milk, random beers, and fruit and vegetable juices. So damned good.
