Ok I was unaware that this unfinished Chris song was used as a basis for "The Chain". I read this on several websites just tonight...that they used the chord progressions in the chorus of "Butter Cookie" for the hook of "The Chain". Anybody else heard of this before...

I'm not sure about this. I LOVE "Butter Cookie", but I don't think it sounds anything at all like anything on "The Chain". I have a bootleg track titled "Chain Instrumental". I think that is "Keep Me There". That doesn't sound anything like "Butter Cookie" either. I wonder if Butter Cookie(Keep Me There) is just labeled wrong.

I think so too. It is true that Christine had the music written for The Chain (Keep Me there). Then they used it for the chain. I love that version she wrote, it has more keys on it.

I think probably the bootleg is labeled wrong, rather than the released Butter Cookie (Keep Me There).
I was under the impression Chris had a hand in the harmony of the song....that was her input. The Chain started out as Write Me a Long Song.....as you can here in the bootleg, The Chain: Writing Session.

Going back and listening to the Rumours DVD release...and the commentary on "The Chain"...both Lindsey and Mick actually say that "The Chain" started out as the song "Keep Me There", which they both say was one of Chris'. Although Lindsey says that much of the song didn't actually make it onto "The Chain"...he does say that the tag did. So...hmmm...dunno.

In other news, I do love butter cookies & especially butter cookie dough.

I have never heard this song, but knowing of it, I like to go "Butter Cookie!" loudly in a very opera-ish voice.

To my ears, it sounds like "Butter Cookie" begat "Keep Me There"... and then, of course, "Keep Me There" begat "The Chain."
To truly illustrate the progression, they should have included "Keep Me There" alongside "Butter Cookie" on the 'Rumours' reissue.

To my ears, it sounds like "Butter Cookie" begat "Keep Me There"... I can't find the musical connection between those two. But then the whole damn scenario confuses me even more than it confuses the band.

They kept the tag of Chris' song "Keep Me There"
Put in your DVD audio and listen to the song...after John's solo at the end...listen to Christine's counter part she is playing on the Hammond...(you can really only hear it on the DVD audio...)...and there you have, what sounds like to me, Keep Me There.

the similarities between the latter two are very obvious to me.
