AHH, I can finally feel like a human again. After having waited 2 weeks into November, we here in Minnesota are slated for about 4-8 inches of snow tomorrow. It's about time. As long as it doesnt go below zero, I can pretty much handle the snow. It comes form living in this state my whole life I guess.

Well I'm north of you David in Manitoba... and we don't have snow yet either, but I think the same system is supposed to drop 5-10cm of snow starting later today.... But unlike you... I hate the snow and cold and the older I get the less tolerable I am of it!

Well, I'm the same age as you, David (actually, almost a year older). I've lived in Canada all my life (Montreal, now Toronto) and I still HATE the snow!!! Hate the cold, hate the snow. I must say, we've had a stunning fall here - hopefully it's a sign of the winter to come. Not too cold, not much snow is what I'm hoping for....

Macman, are you part of that storm system they're talking about out on the prairies? I know there are all kinds of warnings in Saskatchewan and Alberta; is it making its way towards you, too? For your sake... I'll hope not. :)

It's another record-breaking 80+ degree day here. And frankly, I'm sick of it. We're getting a cold front tonight/tomorrow, which will bring us down to the 60s.

Lucky you, getting snow. As long it's manageable, it rocks!

The Saturday before Halloween it snowed like crazy for a couple hours in the afternoon. There was around 6 inches on my back deck. It rained the next day and washed it all away.

I must say, there's one reason I'm glad we moved to Texas... I hate the cold and snow! And I lived with it my whole life as well, until earlier this year (37 years)! I hope to experience my first non-"seasonal depression" winter this year.

I absolutely love the snow. I live in Massachusetts and we get a fair amount of it every year. I will not be going far away for college just for that reason. I just love the snow its so beautiful and puts me in a good mood. Im going to be taking pictures this year.

Hell, this sunny 70+ temp weather is depressing me now...Bring on the cold grey weather and I will be bouncing off the walls with happiness and cheer (All I want is about 4' of snow in my front yard so I can cannonball off into it.)

SNOW! I HATE IT!

We have had beautiful weather here in RI the last few days. Today was actually like a spring day. It was more like spring then the spring that we have been having lately.
It was sort of depressing because we all know that it is not going to last and the long cruel winter will be here before you know it.:(

Actually Cat.. we are part of that system, probably the same one hitting David in Minnesoda. I was speaking with people in Calgary and Edmonton, and they didn't get snow, so I thought maybe it would bypass us. They said snow by noon today.. but nothing happened. By 5pm it was coming down though. More wind then anything which just whipped it up and made it look like it was snowing more then it actually was. I guess I'll find out in the morning if the 5cm held true or if again the weather people were wrong.... It's not cold though, just hoovering around zero, so not bad.

I used to like snow when I was a kid. I didn't have to drive then. Now I go up to the mountains a few times before Xmas and if I am in LA on the 24th or 25th I will go up then too. A time or two in Oregon my pals and I have rented a cabin for 2 days on the mountain in lots of snow, which is totally fun. Otherwise, I am happy as all get out here in Los Angeles where it was 80 degrees today and I was swimming in the sun at 2 pm.:blob1:

I could not handle snow on a daily or weekly basis. No bueno. I want to be able to leave it behind.

I seriously won't miss the snow. Although I do love the way the outdoors looks after a snow, I don't like being out in it, particularly, having to drive in it. If I never had to go outside, I'd be fine with it! ;)

I do have to admit, though, that being in a warm climate for the first time has really thrown my "sense of season" off. I kept forgetting that Halloween was coming up last month. And now, it really doesn't feel like Thanksgiving or Christmas is just around the corner.

But I'm serious about the seasonal disorder thingy (sorry, can't remember the actual name & am too lazy to look it up). I get seriously depressed during the winters up north, when it's been, like, a month since the sun's come out and there's a snow storm every other day. And then when the sun finally does come out, it's about 30 below zero! I can definitely live without it.

BTW, did you watch Grey's Anatomy last night?

I love everything about the snow. Except when it melts and becomes one big slushly cesspool of dirt and grime. Blech. My favorite is when it snows and the branches on trees freeze. So beautiful. And if I'm at my mother's house, I camp out in the bathroom and look out the window because she has a little bit of forest in the backyard and it's just so pretty to look at the snow falling back there.

Suppose to get near 80 today in Nor. Cal. Way too warm for mid-Nov. California depends on rain and especially snow in the mountains for it's water, and the long range projections are for a very mild winter. Not looking forward to the possibility of water rationing next year. We went through that in the late 80's/early 90's. A real pain....

It's called Seasonal Affective Disorder. :wavey: I am likely getting a light box this winter to try to combat the symptoms. I hate the long winter and the short days too. Plus the cold, I'm sick of it. I didn't want to leave FL when I was down there last month.

I also watched Grey's Anatomy and agree with Diss' sentiments on that one. That wife beyotch has got to go. I mean, McDreamy pretends he's not on the ferry with her but he cannot go forward with the divorce?

Meredith's hair looked better this episode, they usually have it all mousy looking adding to her "patheticness". I don't want them to make her pathetic. She should go through a makeover like that character on Scrubs. Then she can strut around the hospital like she owns it.

How about the preemptive hysterectomy/double mastectomy? That was a scary story line.

You can also try an occasional trip to the tanning salon, with sunscreen. I don't have a terrible case of Seasonal Affective Disorder, but enough that the heat of a tanning bed maybe twice a month helps a lot. I'm so scared of cancer (and of destroying my skin) that I use sunscreen in the tanning bed- how retarded is that?

:) I never even thought of that. Maybe I will try that, I think there is a tanning salon in my neighborhood. Oh it will be too funny coming out of there with no visible difference in my skin color. I can't see the harm in that for like 10 minutes twice a month. Thank you for the idea.

I agree that it's very pretty to watch. When I was still up north, I shared a corner office at work. Our office backed up to a forest. It was beautiful when it snowed, and the deer would often come out of the woods and right up to our building. Since we were on the 3rd floor, we'd have to crain our necks to see them when they came that close. But people with first floor offices would occasionally have deer come right up to their window. I do miss that part!

But I hate going out in the snow, and particulary, driving in it. I'd love to go to a ski lodge, though, and just hang out inside the lodge drinking hot cider in front a big fireplace, and looking out at the scenery. Couldn't get me on the slopes, though. In addition to hating to go out in the snow and cold, I'm afraid of heights!

Maybe it has to do with age. It seems to me like everything is going by so damned quickly lately.

Yep, it sure does! It's even worse if you have kids. Time has flown by even faster since my son was born.

That's so odd! Well, actually, I'm odd because I like the winter and it's spring that depresses me. Once the days start getting longer, I get sad for some reason. I can't explain it.

You're at least the 2nd person in this thread that feels that way! I am totally the opposite. I get depressed when the days start getting noticably shorter. My mom's even worse than me... on the longest day of the year, she gets depressed because she knows the days are going to start getting shorter. Even though you can't notice it for a couple months. I think it's the Italian in her!

Yes! That bitch wife needs to hit the high road, I cannot stand her. And Dempsey pisses me off. Hello, you're an asshole. You cavorted around without ever telling Merdeith that you were married and then you tease her with "I can't do this." Pfffft.

His character has been an a$$ this season. He's been so wishy washy. It's obvious he doesn't really love his wife any more. I don't understand why he seems to feel some sense of loyalty towards her... once she cheated on him, that loyalty should have flown out the window! And he was so bitter towards her when she came to Seattle... but all of a sudden, a few weeks later, he decides to try and make the marriage work? Of course, we all know he and Meredith will get back together eventually. But the writers have to string us along forever. That scene in the elevator was painful to watch. You could feel the sexual tension, and I really thought he'd give in. But the d*ck says "I can't do this" and walks out! WTF is that?! I have to admit, though, that I rewound and watched that part again. The tension was palpable!

there is an alternate version of Seasonal Affective Disorder, I am the exact opposite, I prefer the cold grey days of winter (I am usually more upbeat/positive  in the wintertime) over the depressing bright sunny hot summertime (Which is when I am usually ill...Never ill in the cold seasons.).

Sooner it is grey outside the better (At least with the current 40 temp with 50MPH North winds I can easily breathe.)

Yeah, I agree. The storyline has become pretty unrealistic to me. I believe the writers will continue to stretch this out for as long as possible. Unfortunately, many of us may lose interest by the time they get McDreamy and Meredith back together.

ACK! The lady who owned my house before me had wallpaper EVERYWHERE! Bathroom, bedrooms, hallways - ugh! A layer of early 1980's over a layer of 1950's in every room - what a bitch to get down.

I loathe wallpaper. With the exception of a border in my living room (I usually don't like border either - it took me 2 months & several trips to 5 different stores to find one I liked) there is no wallpaper in my house anymore - I've either covered or removed it. I'm on the last room - thinking of doing the Venetian plaster actually, since the walls are not in the best shape.

Blech. Wallpaper is heinous. I was grateful that her wallpaper practically came right off because I was not ready to haul out the steam machine to remove that ****. And do you notice that people choose to apply the fugliest wallpaper known to mankind in their homes? I don't get it. Your home should be pleasing to look at.

I do some kick ass venetian plaster treatments. Five coats and then I finish it off with wax; I don't take the easy way out and spray shellack on it like a lot of others do (mostly because it looks like utter ****). I was going to originally do straw walls in her bathroom but my fan broke and I did the plaster instead. Plus, I didn't want to do all that work at the time and I'm picky about joint compound; a lot of the **** they sell dries like crap.

OMG. That would be like living inside a fibroid tumor. Why not use grasscloth? I don't mind that in a 30's or 40's bathroom or sitting room.
Wallpaper is hideous for any place I would live, but for what I do, it is fantastic. We use it all the time. My favorite is flocked ****. Awesome. I did an old West saloon once in whorehouse red flocked wallpaper. With Gold highlights. So damned fun.
You should have seen the wallpaper in the Ambassador Hotel in LA. The Cocoanut Grove...staggering. Metallic AND flocked. In Sammy Davis Jr.'s suite there was this stuff....black, silver, and purple...geometric ! With raised flocked felt stripes. Priceless.

I'm not a grasscloth fan. That **** was in my bathroom when I got my current apartment and I couldn't get rid of it fast enough.

 I would imagine it's fun to use in a place that you don't LIVE in, man.

I've already had 4 inches of snow here. Bring on the rest. I've got my scarves all ready.I remember like a few years ago near you in Maryland they got something like 60 inches of snow in a storm. Is that right?

I cannot fathom a winter without snow. A winter without snow is Whitney without the crack. A bike without wheels. A car without gas. Grey's Anatomy without Le Dempsey. It just isn't natural. :laugh:You know, I'm trying to be serious here, and then you come along....

That was a scary story line.Mcdreamy, is that a new Mcdonalds sandwich?

Ehhh Halloween. Thats a little too early for me. I like a nice warm halloween night. I remember a very big blizzard before thanksgiving one year. I remember not going to school Thanksgiving week. Last year there were 2 major blizzards that shut my school down for 4 days straight and then they made us go to Friday which was a disaster. Tons of accidents.
