Much of the credit for Fleetwood Mac's huge popular success in the '70s and '80s could be laid at the feet of virtuoso guitarist-singer-songwriter Lindsey Buckingham. His imaginative string acrobatics and pop sensibility - along with a romantic history with Stevie Nicks - broadened the appeal of the former bluesers, Fleetwood Mac, by creating songs that were smart, sexy and radio friendly. Sound Stage Presents: Lindsey Buckingham could have benefited mightily from another half-hour's worth of material, but what's here is very good, indeed.

I finally bought and watched my DVD of Sound Stage Presents Lindsey Buckingham.
Wow.

Great stuff here. Trouble, Go Insane, Murrow Turning Over In His Grave, Red Rover and Down On Rodeo gave me goosebumps. I Am Waiting is something very special.

Now for my gripes. I don't like the DVD production values. For the DVD, they should have fleshed out the content in one concert.
For instance, the big blue SoundStage logo after the Stevie Nicks segment is ridiculous. Running credits during the big finale ending of Go Your Own Way was nothing short of annoying. The (2) bonus DVD tracks can only be accessed from the Song Chapter Index is tedious.

I know they took the cheap route when producing the DVD and just copied master tapes from the original broadcast and then tacking on the (2) bonus songs, but a little editing would have done wonders for us, the paying customer.

But in spite of my gripes, I'm glad to have a Lindsey live performance video archived forever. I Am Waiting, Down On Rodeo and Trouble are worth every gripe.

everything about this dvd is spot-on imo
with the only flaw being the "sensible" audience

They were indeed "sensible," but then musically he was pretty stripped down and mellow. He only started to go for it on GYOW.

I can't believe you actually don't mind my gripes. It really bothered me. I was so entranced in GYOW and then suddenly the pic goes into a thumbnail and I get to watch text rolling on most of the screen. Argh.

You're alot more forgiving.

doll it was the end of the song with a few licks to go...sheesh ;)
you know how i feel about lindsey...hours of ecstasy could never be squashed by a min of thumbnail...yes im that easy

I know, which is why I still love you.

But sheesh...it pissed me off. It's such a tacky thing to do. The song was not over. I don't mind so much for a tv airing, but not for my home video. It's rude.

Not to mention my 2 other gripes. Don't get me wrong I love the show...

Agreed...the audience was pretty calm...but the set list wasn't very uptempo either. I think GYOW was the only real "get up and move" type of song. I think the only flaw here was, like the Movie City News review said, it could have benefited from more songs. I'm surprised he didn't do something from Out of the Cradle.

i will agree with one of them...
but i got over it :xoxo:
you need to come over so we can
scrutinize it together...over and over ;)
No need to scrutinize it...the flaws are obvious and I will not get over it.

But if it gets you feeling real good...well then our night is planned out.

Well, I was in the audience on like the second row - I am all of the way on the left if you are looking at the stage and am the very tall one in the black long sleeve shirt. I can assure you, my section was not that calm and we stood and danced the entire night. But, yes, there were some ho hums who were there for the corp. thing. My fav. was "Trouble" - I think I jumped up and spun around in the air during that one.

No reason here, just stating some simple facts about the DVD. But I will take voice of reason over something like, say, the skidmark on the underpants of society. I think Lindsey should have done Street of Dreams, maybe Countdown, or Soul Drifter...and where was Bleed to Love Her? That would have been MUCH better than the stripped down Peacekeeper and still a recognizable song.

I must look for you then on the DVD! When I watched it I pondered which Ledgies were there. I was hoping is wasn't the stiff in the center front row with the massive bald spot who I found annoying.

Love the blonde haired dude in the front row that's banging his head during GYOW and just eating it up.

But yeah Countdown would have been good, I think 'Don't Look Down' would have fit beautifully in the set. Holiday Road would have been a fun encore.

I have to say that Murrow was simply brilliant. For a more ubeat song, Twist of Fate would have been a fantastic choice.

For instance, the big blue SoundStage logo after the Stevie Nicks segment is ridiculous.

It probably took ages for her to walk off stage in those boots so they cut it.

I know they took the cheap route when producing the DVD and just copied master tapes from the original broadcast and then tacking on the (2) bonus songs, but a little editing would have done wonders for us, the paying customer.

It wasn't all cheap. Mark Needham overdubbed some stuff in there to make the guitar parts a little more smooth. But in terms of the editing it was amateur night.

At least she wore the boots. See even she knows how lame those platform sneakers are. A plus for Stevie on good judgement.

Did he? That's too bad. What "stuff" was overdubbed? Isn't that against Sound Stage regulations?

Editing was not really amateur night. There was no editing for the DVD release at all. It was a direct Sound Stage master to DVD.

Murrow was just incredible. The highlight for sure, along with Trouble and Big Love.

I think the whole thing had a nice mellow feel to it. We often give out about audiences not being enthusiastic [ie The Dance etc.] in these things but I think this audience got it right. There's nothing as bad as some eejit screaming random stuff in the middle of a song. :( One of the reasons I don't buy bootlegs...

But I think this DVD had too many screams and claps during the songs...kinda bugged me. I'm sure if I was there, I would have done the same thing. But this time around...it really bugged.

But like I said before, he has to get that in somewhere! At least work it in a different song...sick of ISA.

Even thought I've posted a few of these thoughts before, I will risk the criticism and post them again:
The crowd was very upbeat considering how it was filmed. Every song, except 'Big Lve' was performed twice. I loved that fact, but the reaction may have been subdued after the second perfomance.
Unlike Lindsey's 1992 Center Stage, the crowd in the front 15 rows stood the entire time (at the urging of some hard-core Ledgies).
After making a sizable "donation" to the Chicago PBS station and arriving 8 hours before the start of the filming, the last-minute ticket give-aways of the first three rows to "lucky fan club members" was extremely frustrating. Clearly, the bigger fans were not in the first three rows (especially the bald guy that they eventually moved).
There was some silent "dead time" between the different songs while guitars were switched out and the hard core fans screamed out the different songs they would love to hear (I screamed out 'Soul Drifter' and drew a smile/smirk from Lindsey). Someone yelled out 'Holiday Road' and Neale Heywood played a few chords and Lindsey and Neale chuckled as if Neale had tried to convince Lindsey to rehearse and play the song, but it obviously did not make the pre-performance cut.
A few audience requests did get played - 'Save Me a Place' and 'Bleed To Love Her' but they did not make the DVD.
Clearly, the show was an "acoustic" type of show, until he got to 'Murrow' and 'GYOW" which Lindsey introduced as "a couple of rude tunes."
I love the DVD, but it doesn't quite capture the magic of being there in person that night!

Shame they couldn't edit that dude out. He bugged.

Since a few people enjoyed the recollections, here are a few more interseting factoids:
I think a lot of video editing had to be performed as there were Allstate Insurance signs plastered all over the stage (a Season 2 sponsor). Since LB's performance moved from Season 2 to Season 3, it looks like they removed all traces of the ads.
At one point between songs, Lindsey complained that his new shoes "were killing" him.
A break in the performance was even longer than planned as Bret Tuggle noted that the chili he had for lunch had made is way through him.
I think Lindsey could have played a few more requests, but his wife was flying back to California and, as he said, he "need(s) to be with her, if you know what I mean."
