 Yeah, I know. But I thought I needed to inject some mainstream pop into the proceedings. I have no idea who to vote for I must admit.

Anyone got any ideas who I should put Joni Mitchell up against? I feel I need to include her before I go onto the semi-finals.

Joan Baez.

Cool. Thanks Josh :xoxo:
That's not a good choice. They have nowhere near the same level of career. That's like pitting a Great Dane against a Chihuahua.

I wanted her against Patti Smith - different music, similar career arcs. :) does everyone have to sound the same for you to put them together?
Either way, surely you agree that Joni Mitchell will trounce Baez. Great Dane/Chihuahua. I'll see if I can think of anything else.

Sadly, you are wrong. It's better than Baez, though, but there could be still another choice that is better than both of those. Oh, and I voted for Aguilera. She doesn't seem as fake. Or rather, she doesn't try to seem like she's pretending she's not as fake. She's a ho, too, but she doesn't try to pretend like she's not.

Joan is nearer to Joni in style, I agree, but I think Patti is closer to her in popularity, on the Ledge anyway. I know Joni, Patti and Loretta don't necessarily fit but I'm attempting to round up some artists I've left out so far but want to include so I can get this thing moving onto the next level by next week. :) Otherwise Band Face Off could go on forever and ever, and no one wants that! :laugh:Youre doing great with this!! keep it up:nod:

At least we can all feel better about ourselves when one of them loses in the next round?

Anyone got any ideas who I should put Joni Mitchell up against? I feel I need to include her before I go onto the semi-finals.

Bonnie Raitt? Jackson Browne? James Taylor?

Wilco vs. Ryan Adams or The Shins? (And are you going to Tweedy's London solo show?)

Tom Waits vs. anybody? Pretty please?

amber
11-10-2005, 05:19 PM
Joni v. Carole King?

Jyqm
11-10-2005, 05:21 PM
It is but I want to include Loretta now and I've nowhere else to fit her.

Against Patsy Cline?

I've got about five Face Offs left and then onto the semi-finals.

Well, I mean, if we're gonna go beyond 32 anyway, we might as well go for 64, just to be fair. We could make NCAA brackets and have a pool!

amber
11-10-2005, 05:24 PM
Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne and James Taylor are all good matches for Joni actually. Now I'm conflicted! Who would go up against Patti Smith then?

I'm going to do Wilco vs Ryan and Tom Waits vs Nick Cave, don't worry.
I don't know much about The Shins I must admit.
(Yep, I'm going to Tweedy's solo show!)
Why don't you leave it and just put Jackson Browne against James Taylor?

I think that would be ace .

ragandbone
11-10-2005, 05:32 PM
I think it should be Rickie Lee Jones VS. Joni, or yes, maybe James Taylor or Jackson Browne. Joan Baez is certainly a good musician, and has that high pure voice (like a Joni) but I don't think she is a contemporary of Joni's, she comes more from a folk tradition.
Of course I already can't imagine who could beat Joni, so I should probably shut up.

Patti Smith VS PJ Harvey

Oh yes, I was supposed to vote for someone...er, I pick Whitney Houston. I don't have a very good reason, she just made me want to sing along more than the other choices, way back when.

I have absolutely no inkling at all of RLJ. Except that one song. No clue. Not even a glimmer.
:)
I just wanted to say that.
That's reasonable. She was often compared to Joni way back when, and she was sort of sour about it, as if she had never heard Joni. I think it was the long straight blond hair, the sometimes jazzy arrangements, and good lyrics (but not Chuck E's in love) that caused poeple to compare them. I think Pirates is her best album - in fact it is an amazing album.
Carole King seems a good choice too, if you are keeping it gender-seperate.

Totally! he sniffs, and then the huge sniff turns into snarl. it is "Oh Well" and I think he is summoning the attitude. Just before this, he looks sideways at Christine, and/or John, and grins, but the expression is more fleeting, and too subtle to read in a short anim. I think she got just the right part!
