View Full Version : Ledgies for a good cause

Last year, the possibility of Ledgies joining together and giving back a little during the holiday season was mentioned by a few board members. Would anyone be interested in donating (whatever amount you wish) as a group to a charity this year? If anyone has suggestions for nonprofits, please share. Thanksgiving is quickly approaching so I thought now was an appropriate time to mention this. :wavey:

I'm totally in.
Under the assumption the cause will be one I support, tho I'm sure it will be, just had to say that in case.

for donating.
I have to say we (Deb & myself) like to donate to the American Cancer Society, And will again this coming holiday season.
Besides, If things work out as expected, yours truly will be the volunteer (For the hospital Deb works for, Which raised over) dressed up in drag next summer during the "Walk for Life" for the American Cancer Society.

I was thinking the American Cancer Society, or perhaps Toys for Tots.

Keep us posted on the legal developments. After the year you all have had, you deserve some good news.

Someone should make a poll..and we can vote on the charity...I think that would be the best way to do it...we love bein democratic!
And maybe if you wanna push for a certain charity, within the thread--basically make your sales pitch for the one u think is the best...set a deadline for voting, and then majority wins..

I give to this group when I can:

http://www.theirc.org/
They claim that "Of every $1 the IRC spends, 90ยข goes to programs and services that directly benefit refugees and war-affected populations. Financial Information"

I think we've gotten some great suggestions. I like Chris' idea on setting up a vote in a day or two.
I guess we also need to figure out how to collect the donations. Paypal, maybe? If anyone has any suggestions on how to do this, please share. :)

sounds fine to me, Makes me think of just happened recently in the town were we both work (Well, until I got sick it was the city of my employment).
A 70+ year old black man, with not a single arrest or crime to his name beforehand, was arrested in a Grady County sting operation for selling drugs to pay for ailing his wife's cancer treatments since the state turned him down for help repeatedly.
He had only a 3rd grade education, was self-employed by doing lawn maintenance and was doing what he thought was best which was to support his family first-and-foremost....He was swept under the rug by the Oklahoma DHS as have had countless others.
Due to all the televised publicity around his arrest, His wife is NOW in Hospice and the bills are being paid by Medic-aid (His attorney is a good man, Turns out his lawyer is the same lawyer I am using for our upcoming negligent death lawsuit over my Mom's death. Good to see my lawyer has a heart and is the same person who helped this poor man get his wife the treatment she deserves and to help this 70+ yr. old man avoid prison.)
So yeah, I am for Hospice as well as the American Cancer Society.

I "work" for Hospice as a patient volunteer, so I'm all for that and will help in any way I can. Well, I should say I'll help even if it isn't Hospice. :)
