A movie about freaking Chicken Little!? What's next? The movie version of Little Ms. Muffet?
Disney certainly has fallen a long way since their artistic revival of the late eighties and nineties. It seems they make most of their money these days by lame sequals which spit on the memory of the classic originals. Dumbo 2, Peter Pan 2, Cinderella 2, The Little Mermaid 2, 101 Dalmations 2; how blantantly commercial can they get?

Pretty shamless.

The sequels usually are distributed only on video, and I don't see anything bad in them: it makes children happy to find their heroes in new adventures, like with Mickey Mouse.

Why would you hope it's a flop though, just because you think it's a stupid idea? Brace yourself then, because during the previews they showed a trailor for a Little Red Riding Hood animated movie. I forget the title, but it looks hysterical. It's like CSI meets Red Riding Hood. There is a detective and he has to get the truth by having all the characters tell their side of the story.
Anyway, I think you jumped the gun with your feelings on Chicken Little. It seems like you just wrote it off as a film based on it's original story. Of course if they just did a film sticking to that storyline it would be very weak. Still, to "hope" it's a flop seems kind of rotten.
I saw it, and it was pretty good. They actually put a very creative spin on the Chicken Little story. The little kids in the theater loved it, and there were a good amount of jokes geared towards the adults to keep them happy too.

You aren't exactly the target audience for such animated features, are you?

Okay, I so wanna see this! Who are the voices, do you remember? I guess I could go look it up for myself. LOL
Chicken Little looks cute and cartoons today are hysterical because of the adult jokes they put in them. Toy Story is my fave movie of all time. :)

Zach Braff, Don Knotts, Patrick Stewart, Fred Willard, Cahterine O'Hara, and Adam West? Why can't they get these actors to star in a real-people movie together? I'd be all over that in a second.

We took our 5 year old to see this yesterday, for his birthday. He loved it. the theater was filled with kids his age, and they all seemed to enjoy it. That's who the movie is made for... little kids. It wasn't a masterpiece, by any means, but it was a cute movie for children. What's the harm in making movies that you can bring young kids to?

Nothing, which is why the vermicious one praised Disney's late 80s and early 90s output. I think the issue being raised isn't that all family-friendly films are crap, but that a lot are, which is a shame, since it's clearly possible to make a kid flick that doesn't just pander and is a good film in its own right.
Disclaimer: I really don't know which category Chicken Little falls under because obviously I haven't it, and I don't really intend to, even if it makes it over here.

This one turned out to be a decent movie, though. It wasn't the best Disney movie I've ever seen, but it was entertaining. And as others mentioned, it had some humor for the adults as well. But overall, this movie is targeted towards younger children. And the children in the movie theater seemed to love it.
I can understand the logic in the original post...the fact that the story it's based on seems like a flimsy concept to create a movie from, and that Disney has become incredibly commercial. I do agree on the second point. The movies themselves do appear to be secondary to the product lines Disney puts out behind them. But as far as it this one being a lousy concept, as one or two others have mentioned, they did manage to put a creative spin on it and make it into a decent movie. Was it as good as some of the older Disney movies, or the Pixar movies? No. Would it appeal to as wide of an audience? Probably not. But my son had a great time, and I was entertained as well, so I can't complain.

Well, it's already earned an estimated $40 million at the box office in it's first week. I think that pretty much dashes Vermicious's hopes. My issue wasn't really that someone would think it's a stupid storyline to adapt into a film, but more that they would hope a film was a flop just based on that. I mean, I'm sure a lot of people worked very hard creating the movie and whether it's an oscar winner or not that's got to mean something.

That episode was just on Lifetime last week. It's one of my favorites--the costumes are great and their singing is hilariously awful. And the ladies' bird-walk is priceless.

My other favorite episode is Sophia and Dorothy doing Sonny and Cher. :woohoo:

Yeah, I hardly ever see that one, which is why I was so excited last week. I just really wonder why, whenever there was anything remotely resembling dancing, the costume people insisted on putting them in pantyhose and leotards with nothing else on the bottom...
