Hi all,

This morning Stevie was interviewed by Kim Hill on Radio New Zealand; you can hear the interview here (http://www.radionz.co.nz/audio/national/sat/stevie_nicks). Enjoy! :)

This is the excerpt from the website (http://www.radionz.co.nz/nr/programmes/saturday):
11:25: Stevie Nicks is performing in NZ next year with John Farnham (Auckland, March 4, New Plymouth March 5, Christchurch March 8).

Interesting, thanks.

Stevie HATES the Atkins diet at this point. She also says she gained some weight from a steroid she took to deswell her vocal cords. She says she lost 20 pounds last year -- she is now on Weight Watchers.

She just goes from one diet to another, just like so many Americans. It's kind of sad when you see that because you know people will continually find themselves disappointed in every new thing they try.

Interesting ..but I found the interviewer dwelled to much on things from long ago and not enough on the here and now...I mean ..come on...she has been off drugs for how long now?? .I don't think enough thought was put into the interview...IMHO..
Would of been nice to hear about what Stevie has been up in say the last few years and what the future is going to bring us??

I caught that too. I remember she called Dr. Atkins a "God among men" at one point. Now she's bowing to the people who created weight watchers. Well, as long as she stays healthy. I just wonder how many of her fans who started Atkins are going to convert to weight watchers now also.

Yeah, it was mostly about the past, but what I did notice about the interview was that it was much more candid than most of the interviews done over here in the US. It seems like most interviewers over here don't want to or are afraid to ask her about the drugs and stuff. I liked Stevie's open responses as well. It was the first interview that I've heard where she discussed the incident where Lindsey kicked her on stage.

OMG the yo yo dieting. Weight Watchers ? Please. Diets are band aids and I am stunned she doesn't have a doctor who will tell her this. Stop eating crap and exercise like mad. End of story.
Lost 20 pounds ? Between when and when ? I can't even tell anymore.

And I sooo knew he snarked out because she was getting so much attention. Baby.

That is really disturbing, to me. She must thrive on conflict. Clearly, creatively she does. I hate it. I could never live like that, arguing every single day. If I have to argue once a WEEK I hate it.

I just think she couldn't avoid it. It seems they just really disagree. Except for the olden days, when he was clearly a massive, massive, jealous ass to her.
But since she didn't quit, you might be able to say she thrives. She didn't look very happy at the shows I saw her at, though.

I laughed so hard at that. Not in a bad way, but laughing out loud because if she put her mind to it and decided to do it, she would be a kick ass Senator. But I would miss the music too much unless she went into the studio during vacations etc..., mmmm makes the mind spin at the possibilities of her entering the political arena. Mayor of Phoenix or LA perhaps?

Plus the Stevie for President sig. I have seen. Let's start a grass roots campaign.

I smiled when I heard that Stevie picked up on the interviewer's tone and accent as soundling like Christine's because as soon as Kim started to talk, that was my very first impression. Maybe that is why Stevie seemed so relaxed and open in the interview. Almost as if she was chatting with Christine.

Very interesting as to why Stevie to this day will not take the microphone off the stand. Weird how one remark/insult like that can affect you for you whole career. She should take the mic. of the stand during the next FM concert (hopefully in 2007) just to say, "take that Mr. Buckingham, I can be Las Vegas if I want to because I sang at Caesars in Vegas baby".

Yeah, no kidding. She really trashed Lindsey in that interview, imo. Of course, he deserved it for being such an ass back then. But really, if I was listening to that interview without knowing anything about Stevie, Lindsey or their relationship... I would definitely have a negative impression of Lindsey from that day on. I don't think that's what Stevie's goal is, and considering their relationship nowadays, I'm surprised she's not sugarcoating the incident to make him seem like less of a jerk.

ya know i was thinking the same thing
if i wasnt a fan.....i'd be thinking 'gee, this Lindsey dude is a real ****'
but then, i think she CAN say those things because they do have a much better relationship now

Phoenix -- i don't think Lindsey necessarily starts them.......or even Stevie does. i think they just oppose each other by nature. their personalities are opposites so there is AlWayS going to be conflict between them

however, 99% of the DR doc is completely out of context. we need to see ALL the footage to make an informed decision about all their fights that we didn't see

I love that interviewer and it does seem like she was just sitting around drinking coffee with Stevie and talking about her history with FM. There are so many things to say about this. I feel bad for all the things she had to take to keep it going like the one for unswelling her vocal cords. It's a no brainer why they keep doing it even with all the fighting coz like she said it's a fickle business and that's what they do. Whoever thought Stevie and Lindsey were still a couple tho?   I would have thought she might not have been that open about what he was like now that they *respect* each other but she laid it on the table. Good interview. I love Stevie.

My gosh. Are we sure Stevie likes Lindsey?

No kidding. Well, any suspicions I had about these two having a current thing - even any suspicions I had about these two having a thing in the past several years - have dissipated. That was certainly a different tone about Lindsey than we've heard over the past two years. Now, it's totally possible that something major happened just recently between them, and she's back in a bitter period over him. Maybe they did have something going on for a little while. They do seem to go through phases with each other. For several months, Stevie was all, "he's the first and only love of my life..," "I look at him and think, oh Stevie, you made a mistake...," etc etc... But now she sounds a whole lot harder about him. There was no affection in that interview. It's pretty clear from the recent photos that Linds and Kristen are very much together - the whole house sale signalling a divorce... well, not so much. I'm thinking yes, there was something that happened in that period during The Dance... But everything we saw during the SYW tour... despite a few spontaneous moments... it was as choreographed as they kept on saying it was.

So she actually copped to being high for all of the RAL tour  . I found it interesting that she said she received the news from the doctor before she went on tour that if she snorted any more drugs up her nose she could die yet she continued to do them anyway. Makes me think the possibility of the assistant blowing it up her arse could be all the more likely.

Doesn't anyone besides me find it odd that she changes her tune from one interview to the next, regarding LB, rather dramatically? The one from the other day she is rambling on and on about how the fire is still there, and they will have an everlasting love affair, blah blah and this one she does a 180'. Why? Everyone assumes this is the way she REALLY feels and the last interview was BS. If she says two totally different things, how do you know which one is closer to the truth? She was miserable on the TISL tour as well so LB being around for SYW is not the reason she comes off as unhappy onstage. Maybe she really does feel the way she describes in this Kim Hill interview but how do you know when she is all over the map?

As for LB and K..he went to a function with her for a neurosurgeon. They obviously both support this guys work...why?

I don't think it was a 180, exactly. In this interview she was explaining how Lindsey felt and acted towards her in the past, and how, even now, they argue all the time, and they always will. And in fact she implied that that tension is still a great source for the music. She didn't say there was no fire, and she didn't say she didn't like him.
IMO, she was just highlighting something different about their relationship this time.
But even so, people do feel contradictory ways at different times. Just because on that day she felt like relating the not so nice details about her and Lindsey, doesn't mean that she didn't mean what she said before. The people that I like, that are my friends, whatever - sometimes I'm not so enamored with them, sometimes I think they're the greatest things in the world. I still like them, or love them. Emotions sway, people are complex and have contradictory feelings - it's no big deal. I would die if someone expected me to feel exactly the same way about everything all the time. DIE!
JMO - I don't really find Stevie's contradictions about how she feels that strange in general.

That's what I'd do. But honestly, aside from factual things that Stevie switches on, is it really reasonable to expect someone to feel the same way about something all the time? That is absurd to me. For instance, yesterday I was stoked to see my friend, today not so much. So, if you had asked me about my friend yesterday, I would have said one thing, and if today, I would have said something different. You know?

They always do a "pre-interview" where the person being
interviewed tells them what they want to talk about, and what they
won't talk about. Always.
Contracts and everything, I believe. I'm not sure but I
think maybe Stevie is working the drugs/past thing so heavily
because she's trying to "solidify" her role as the "Queen of Rock" -
wise not-so-old grandmother, etc. World-wide, now, not just the U.S.A.
And if she can save some lives in Australia doing it, or at least help
someone out somehow, what the hell - that whole thing.

Believe me, WW's is a great way to lose weight in a healthy way. You count points and keep within certain points for your current weight. As you lose weight, you lower points as your weight goes down. When you are an older woman like a few of us on this board and Stevie, we need to focus and be healthy. If you can't do it on your own, then a place like WW's does work. My hubby does Atkins. To me, it isn't that healthy. He rarely eats healthy fruits or vegetables. Just eats too many eggs, bacon, steaks, a few boring salads. To me, this isn't a healthy way to eat. Some people need and like to eat a variety of foods and Stevie is probably one of those people that wants to splurge on a special treat like a piece of pie or cake once or twice a week and she can as long as she can keep under her points/calories limit for the day. Once women reach a certain age, it is very, very difficult for us to remain slim liike we did in our teen/twenties. Some women need help and if WW helps Stevie, then more power to her. What matters is she is healthy looking and happy. Anyway, women are always changing their minds. Stevie is no exception:angel: Men lose weight much more easier than women too.

Believe me, WW's is a great way to lose weight in a healthy way.

I suppose it helps if you never stop.

My comment, and my belief, is that no short time change in diet is going to result in permanent weight loss if the shift in diet is temporary and not accompanied by serious physical exercise. I know a number of women who have lost weight with WW. And when they went back to their former eating habits, they gained it all back. If one has weight to lose, one must burn more calories than are taken in. To maintain weight, you pretty much have to keep up that exercise forever as you age. Unless, I don't know...something like stomach surgery is involved.

Yes, agreed. But, as Amber said, you may want to spend time with your friend today, but tomorrow not so much. But that doesn't change the fact that that person is still your friend.

I guess I'm in the minority, but even though I may not feel the same way day after day about my friends, they are still my friends, regardless of if I don't want to spend time with them. Unless something happened between us that made me change my tone...i.e. I now hate them or something happened to ruin our friendship, then, of course, we would no longer be friends

That is why I find it strange how she changes her tone. I don't have any idea how her relationship with Lindsey is these days. But, if he was my friend my feelings about him may change day to day, but my tone would never change. For instance, if I was asked if Lindsey had apologized...I would have said, "I don't know, but I'm sure he did." But, she doesn't say that. She says, "I don't know, but I would bet he DID NOT." I mean, why bring up all that negativity? Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating on Stevie, because I love when she talks so candidly. It just strikes me as strange the way she talks about Lindsey in this interview especially assuming that they are still friends, which I have no reason to doubt that they still are.

One of the best posts I've read in a while, and I couldn't agree more with everything you said.

No one feels the exact same way about something or someone every day of their life.
Oh, hey, thanks - I just saw this.:)

Amber is extremely insightful & very good at stepping back & saying, "Hey, this makes no sense." I wish all of Amber's friends on the ledge would read this post of hers very carefully.

Maybe because she knew him intimately for years before this experience, and during it, and after it - and she's pretty sure he didn't apologize? You know, maybe she knows that he's the kind of person who most likely didn't apologize to her at that time? Maybe she also thinks that she would remember if he did apologize, because that's kind of a big thing, to kick someone and throw something at them - and then not apologize.
She didn't actually bring up the incident, and the interviewer asked her if he had ever apologized, she didn't volunteer the info - so I think she was probably just being honest - not to be negative but because that is what happened. You are right, she could have said "I'm sure he did" if she wanted to sugar coat, or lie, but she probably didn't feel like it.
But then, just as I think you might be implying, maybe they did have an argument recently which colored her answers a bit, or rather made her feel like she didn't have any reason or desire to hold back. or something along those lines.
Again, I don't think the perceived tone change is strange, though I do concede there may be factors involved in her sudden candor that we don't know about. But that factor could be as simple as that she doesn't feel the need to sugarcoat the past as she perceives it.

I transcribed the parts I thought were interesting for my site. Here is what I have:

"Lindsey and I broke up because..being that I stood in the middle of the stage without a microphone and without a hammond organ to stand behind that kind of put me in that lead singer position even though I was not the lead singer..he just couldn't stand it. He just hated it. And I think what really broke Lindsey and I up was the attention that I started to get. And, of course, that really hurt my feelings because nothing had really changed. (Interviewer: He started to make nasty remarks about the chiffon) He made very nasty cracks about everything. If I even took the mic off of the stand he'd say, "well, aren't you being so very Las Vegas today." So of course I never took the mic off of the stand again and even to this day. So it was like he could cut me like a knife."

(How long did that go on for? (i.e. the tension between she and Lindsey)) Well, let's see it still goes on today. So, you know, if he was sitting right here I would still be saying this. You know, Lindsey and I will fight to the day we die. If he says this song is a blues song, I will say no, it's a rock song and then we'll argue about it for an hour. We just came through 135 Fleetwood Mac shows and we fought the whole time. We just did an album that took us a year of recording in a house and we fought every single day for a year."

"It is like, I see it as blue and he sees it as green. It's that kind of thing. And we always come around to sort of agreeing on everything at some point but nothing ever starts out in agreement and I think that's what makes us still be pretty great on stage is because we do have that. If we were complacent with each other and everything was just like..."I just love you sweetheart," you know, it would be blissed out and boring."

(Did you outgrow Lindsey?) "Right, well we did change. We had changed before we joined the band. I had already called and borrowed one thousand dollars from my mom and dad to move out and I did move out for like two months. Then, of course, I ran out of money and they weren't going to lend me any more money cause I wasn't going to school so I had to move back in with Lindsey and our friend Richard who was an engineer. So it was the three of us who lived together and I had to swallow all of my pride and move back in. And, uh, the relationship even through Buckingham Nicks I started to see that Lindsey's resentment was not going to make for a good relationship and at that point my idea was that I just don't even want to be in a relationship. I just wanted to do my thing and write my songs and entertain and I don't want to feel bad about what I do and he was starting to make me feel bad about what I did, you know."

(Do you remember why Lindsey threw his Les Paul at you (during the Tusk tour)?)"I think it was exactly that reason. I think that I must have been like..you know every once in a while I must have like sung through a solo or ooh aah'd through a solo or something and I think he must have gotten mad at me because I was humming around in a certain place. The more I think about it I'm pretty sure that was what it was and when he walked over and just hauled off and kicked me and I was so embarrassed that I tried to pretend that he didn't do it. The professional in me said "just don't look, just don't even look at him." Then when the song ended he threw the Les Paul at me and I ducked, luckily, or I wouldn't be talking to you right now and he left the stage and the rest of us, we bow and basically appologized and, you know like what can we say because we knew we weren't coming back to do an encore because we knew Lindsey wouldn't come back on stage and then we all took off running to kill him..all four of us. And basically Christine and I got to him first and I grabbed him and I think Christine slapped him and then one of the bodyguards stepped in between Christine and I and Lindsey."

"Christine was so mad at his lack of professional ability on that night. Of course she was angry that he had tried to hurt me. But since he didn't hurt me.. she was just unbelieving that he had tried to hurt me in front of those people who had paid to come and see us and that he had done something like that. That never happened again."

(Did he every apologize? (for the guitar throwing/kicking incident)) "You know what..I don't know if he ever..I bet he didn't. I don't really remember but I would tend to say that he did not apologize. He probably apologized to the band, you know, I'm sorry I wasn't professional, but he did not say, "Stevie, I'm sorry for kicking you in front of all those people." But again, that's just the dynamic between Lindsey and I."

I love how her current press tour has her saying he threw his guitar at her. That's a new one.

And for someone who was so insanely resentful of her already before Fleetwood Mac, it must say a lot about Lindsey's character that he told the band that he and Stevie were a package deal.

I disagree. I think that they had concluded they did need her. Or at least Mick decided that they did. Maybe it was just as Stevie said today, that when he heard them he envisioned a CS&N-like three part harmony that would be fabulous. Stevie just now said this in the interviews. Oh, well, she did do that. I just thought she suddenly realized, right then, in thinking about it and remembering, that he probably did not apologize, and so she said it.
You know, that thing where someone asks you something, and you hadn't been thinking of it, and you're like "I don't remember" because you have to answer them right then - but then you start thinking about it a little bit, and realize that you do kind of remember.
But - that's just what I thought happened, and I can see why someone would think it's uncool. It certainly wasn't flattering to LB, no question about that.

We know how Stevie likes to change her stories because here she says that she knew that they didn't want her.

BBC Rock Hour with Sylvia Simmons - 1981
"Well at first I didn't really think they needed another girl singer, they already had one. So I went through some moments of simply thinking I was being hired because they couldn't get Lindsey without me. I know for a fact that that's how they felt..because why wouldn't they? They did not need another girl singer especially one that didn't play piano or guitar or anything. Kind of like 'oh right, you'll stand out there and be the star and we'll just play.' I was willing to realize that I was lucky enough to be asked to join the band at all and that if I really wanted to be in Fleetwood Mac I was really going to have to figure out a gimmick. And they knew it, they got it, they understood that I felt this way and so they were real careful. And they never made me feel unwanted or like excess baggage."

totally! i dont think this makes Stevie look bad
she didn't know whether he did or he didn't
she SAID in the interview that she thinks he didn't apologize
probably an educated guess on her part
taking into consideration all of his past behavior that she is familiar with
she probably thought more than likely, he didn't apologize
that's not to say that he did and i'm sure if he told her one day he did she would change her answer...maybe

That's a good point, but nowhere does she say that anyone actually said that to her. She says she thought that, and when she says that "she knows for a fact that's how they felt" - she then follows not with any actual evidence that they felt that way, or any facts, but with "because why wouldn't they?" - again surmising she knew how they felt without actual evidence.
Just saying.

I've never heard the guitar part either. I'm in a quote mood tonight so I thought I would pull this one out as well. I wonder if Mick is talking about the same incident?

In the Studio with Fleetwood Mac ~ Rumours - 1992
MICK: (about things between the couples happening on stage) "There was one or two sticky incidents that happened on the stage. I remember one time Lindsey had one or two scotches and Stevie was dancing away during one of his guitar solos and he must have thought, "I'm going to put an end to this," and went over and gave her a good sharp kick on the shins. That was a classic one. So there were odd things like that that I think went completely unnoticed if not a little bit sticky on stage, whoops what's happening here, let's just keep playing, nothing happened, no one saw that."

<i>Reconciliation came - slowly - out of the band reunions and, probably, a mellowing in Buckingham. Ken Caillat quotes a recent conversation: “He said, ’I’m a selfish guy.’ Which is true, he’s all about me, me, me. He admitted he had even been angry about having a child to start with. Then one day the kid grabbed his little finger and he just got it. He understood there was another world out there.”

And when Nicks rejoined Fleetwood Mac for the intriguingly Tusk-like Say You Will - he found her ready to forgive - and not forget, but laugh about “the time you threw that Les Paul at me” and such.</i>

I got the impression that the writer was quoting Ken Callait, and that Ken was interviewed separately. And in fact I would wager that if the others were interviewed, it was separately as well. But mainly, why would Ken be hanging out with the others for an interview? That doesn't make sense. Surely they wouldn't all be available at the same time. And with Ken.

I see that she can answer candidly about the ****ty behavior of others, but she can't candidly answer when exactly she quit cocaine. What's good for the goose is not good for the gander when it comes to her, I suppose.

She commented candidly now. (and with the coke, apparently has been candid since 2001, according to Stew).

And likewise, I don't think she previously relayed the throwing the guitar story.

So, she's consistent in that she probably didn't feel like relaying her private secrets, and the bands, before - but now with time between it all, she feels she can.
Plus, she did admit that she may have been ooing and ahhing during one of his solos....

This most recent interview is a prime example of that. Other than Stevie, who said it?
I would again have to bring up my point that people don't feel the same way about other people every single day.
I would also say that it was not a 180. What it was was Stevie answering direct questions about what Lindsey did in the past, and why their relationship ended, and their dynamic together then and now. She never said she hated him now. She merely relayed what he had done.

And then she said they fight all the time, still, it's just their dynamic - which is what adds spark and tension to their shows and their music together. That's what she said. And that is a neverending love affair - one where they fight all the time, and make great music together. :)

In other words, she was just discussing another aspect of her relationship with Lindsey that the reporter directly asked her about, she wasn't at all going back on how she feels about Lindsey now.

I'm sorry, i think you have to be looking at what she said...not quite carefully enough, or maybe too simply, if you think she was lying before when she said they had a neverending love affair, and/or you think she's lying now when she relays the ways he used to treat her, and how they still fight and it's their dynamic and always will be. These two feelings/thoughts can exist in one person without it being inconsistent. She hates how Lindsey used to treat her, they still fight all the time, but their "thing" (love affair) is neverending, and a great source of inspiration for her, and she loves Lindsey. I dunno, all those things together seem fine to me.

And Ken Callait heard Stevie and Lindsey joking together about the guitar throwing incident. Do you think Ken would have randomly made up something he heard them joking about? And that it would happen to be what Stevie said actually happened? Longshot, IMO.

I don't know if Ken said that or not. The very next paragraph is Lindsey talking:

<i>And when Nicks rejoined Fleetwood Mac for the intriguingly Tusk-like Say You Will - he found her ready to forgive - and not forget, but laugh about “the time you threw that Les Paul at me” and such..

“Now, on the road, we’ve had many really good talks,” he says. “We’ve known each other most of our lives and yet we’re still trying to figure out what’s going on. Obviously, a lot of love as a subtext. But where is that love? How do we get in touch with any of that? For all of us, the decisions we make now are going to determine how we are as people until we die. Stevie and I are trying to look at it...with care.”

He grunts a laugh. “It’s significant that someone can end up, you know.... not having killed you!”</i>

For instance, take you - didn't you tell everyone here you were bi before you even revealed your name? Or posted a picture? Most people would say that revealing your sexuality is much more personal than telling someone your name, and yet that's what you did. For reasons known only to you. Isn't that exactly apropos of what Stevie did? Yet you say it's wrong, and inconsistent, and ridiculous, and that now she's lying about everything.

Your point? I dislike many of her interviews because I think she divulges too much already. I certainly don't want to hear more.

My point is that you can't seem to reconcile the fact that she may feel differently at different times, which doesn't make either feeling untrue, and does not make her any more inconsistent than most people. And this assessment of her causes you to automatically think the guitar story is not true - and she's not the only one claiming it, if I'm reading the mojo article right - and to do so with an unreasonably vociferous inflexibility about it.

My point about the interview/personal thing is that for you to tell us that she should have revealed her coke thing truthfully much earlier because she told a bunch of other personal stuff - and that because she wasn't truthful about the coke right away, that you generally cannot believe her, and that is why you don't believe the guitar story - is not a logical conclusion to draw. IMO.
Note that none of my point is about whether you like her interviews or not. Never has been.

And they never made me feel unwanted or like excess baggage."And that's a perfect example of the sort of person who often compels Stevie to dramatize something or give it a different spin. Simmons is (or was) a writer who had a headbanger & punk taste in music -- not someone to fawn over poppy Fleetwood Mac or Stevie Nicks (known as that "blanded-out blonde musher" by one of Simmons's colleagues). Stevie knew this about Sylvie, so while I enjoy that interview they did very much (& Sylvie very cooly & slyly says she warmed up to Stevie because Stevie was so honest & cordial), I still think Stevie pumped things up a bit in her speech in order to try to "reach" the interviewer. I don't think Stevie is extremely relaxed around interviewers who don't necessarily like her music or Fleetwood Mac's music -- I know I wouldn't be.

My question is, why didn't Kim Hill ask her when/if she is going to do another solo album? It seems like no one ever asks that question in a radio interview, specifically, where we can actually hear Stevie give a response to that burning question.

totally! i dont think this makes Stevie look bad
she didn't know whether he did or he didn'tI don't think it makes Stevie look bad, but it DOES make the entire incident or series of incidents look like sheer confusion in the minds of Fleetwood Mac. What did -- & did not -- happen there in New Zealand in March 1980? I still don't think we know much.

The first time New Zealand was brought up in print (as far as I know) was in Mick's book in 1990. Mick & Stephen Davis said that Lindsey had too much to drink & snapped: he started screwing around on his guitar, playing different stuff during the show, & then aped Stevie's witch dance on "Rhiannon," kicking at her while she was doing her witch dance. Backstage, Christine yelled at him, threw her drink in his face & told him "never do that to this band again" or something. Apparently, the show was also being broadcast on New Zealand radio, but the audience didn't perceive a problem, or thought it was part of the show.

Next, for the reunion publicity, various members like Chris & Stevie mentioned this incident, for the most part about the same as Mick/Stephen Davis described it. When asked about it, Lindsey said he wasn't sure, but he remembered singing an entire show off key.

This year, the story has turned into a guitar-throwing thing, fueled by anger rather than booze. The story is still New Zealand, but now the guitar has turned into a Les Paul & it's occuring on the final song before the encore -- which would be Go Your Own Way, but Lindsey didn't play a Les Paul on GYOW. In fact, he didn't play a Les Paul at all in 1980 (unless he played one on Oh Daddy ...?). Why is Stevie calling it a Les Paul? Why specify? Why not just call it "his guitar"? Wouldn't that seem more likely? Why is "Les Paul" standing out in Stevie's mind? It almost makes you think that whatever she's describing occurred on the Rumours Tour, when he DID play a Les Paul (& the band did tour New Zealand & Australia on the Rumours Tour).

I think since 1990, we're hearing at least a couple of different incidents being remembered hazily as one incident, but it's really hard to say.

I can only hope that now with so much time having passed, someone in her camp will now feel it appropriate to tell us truthfully whether or not she actually had cocaine blown up her ass.

You know, I always wonder about whether that happened or not...I mean, think about it, whenever she's asked about it she clams up and gets dead cold. Why? If it were me, I would laugh and exclaim what an absurdly outlandish story that is OR I would get upset and debunk the whole thing. Considering the wacky, wild fairlyland of big 70's/80's rock and roll they were all living in, it doesn't take that big a stretch of the imagination to think that it might've happened .

I think it's safe to say we'll never know the REAL story of what happened in N.Z. in 1980; there's only revisionist history for this band, which leads me to my next point: I don't know how anyone can believe anything ANY of them say about this incident. I can barely remember what happened last week much less 25 years ago whilst in a constant haze of drugs and booze! But then again, I was only 4...

Ohhh nothing says has-been more than doing diet commercials!

I noticed she insists quite a bit that NO ONE forced her into Betty Ford, that she went all by herself. However, I've read that her family staged an intervention before she went to Betty Ford. I'm confused about that. Unless I'm mixing up her rehab stints.

I think it was both. I think she means they did not handcuff her and take her there in the middle of a binge. I think they, like most familes, had a meeting about it and she let them know she had to go to rehab. and she needed their support.

Mick mentioned it in his book - saying something like she felt coerced into the first rehab., etc. But, she has consistently said that she wanted to go and knew she had to go. It could also be that she made the decision to go, but backed out a couple of times out of fear, which I have seen happen. Then, her people told either you go or else.

Also, I know - all these facts are in my head and come out like The Fly sometimes

Great interview, but I actually disagree with her about Klonopin. Exactly how much was the woman taking?? I have generalized anxiety and have had panic attacks, and this medication has given me some semblance of normalcy again. Granted I take 1-3 mg a day and not huge doses, but there have been times I've skipped taking the pill for a few days and nothing major happens. Heck, I can even take Xanax on and off as needed and it's no problem.

It makes me wonder if she was dramatizing the effects of Klonopin, on a heavy-duty dose, or just plain abusing it. Every psychiatrist I've ever seen has always said Klonopin is far better than any other tranquilizer out there.

Probably all of the above. Once she developed a pattern of abuse with the coke, it probably wasn't hard at all to transfer that behavior and way of thinking to the Klonopin. If a little is good, a lot must be even better, right? I think the psychiatrist who prescribed the Klonopin to her in the quantities it must have taken to effect her the way she describes was extremely irresponsible.

Ten points for you! Lindsey is always the bad guy when listening to Stevie. The problems or fights were never her fault. It is part of the whole SnL schtick. The way she portrays their relationship in the media plays into the whole thing they are selling onstage.

I want to know how this story morphed from a mocking with his coat and kicking his foot out, to him almost hitting her with his guitar? In Dance interviews, Christine talks about this incident and describes it as Lindsey mocking her during Rhiannon and then pretending to kick her. Stevie adds the bodyguards jumping in after they all run backstage to confront him. She tells the same story in 2005 but what happened onstage is different. Stevie even goes into how there was no encore and LB left the stage and all of them ran back to see who could attack him first during that RS Dance interview. Eight years later, the story has morphed into a guitar tossing incident. No, I do not think there were two incidents because Stevie or Mick, or one of them, says that was the only night they did not do an encore. Perhaps LB threw a guitar at her some other time, OFFSTAGE...but I am sure Stevie tossed some things at him too over the years. If anyone believes otherwise, they are pretty naive. The problem I have is now this "'story" will be passed around for years and years and Lindsey looks like an abusive prick...based on Stevie's interview. What she said contradicts the way the story was told in 1997 and in Mick's book. (including by Stevie herself, in 97) Six months from now someone will start a thread about how LB tried to kill Stevie with a guitar and how he is a bastard, blah blah blah. Stevie cares deeply about how she is percieved by people. Her image and legacy are very important to her. She should show Lindsey the same respect. I have said before, but I will say it again. Lindsey has always respected her privacy. He has never really betrayed her in the press. (please do not bring up the lounge act comment, that was an opinion about her show, not a personal attack) Plenty of the other men Stevie was involved with, have gone on to tell her secrets in books, to magazines, on radio interviews. LB has always shown an incredible amount of class when it comes to not outing Stevie on a variety of things. He just allows her to say the things she does and never contradicts her in the media, nor does he lash out in response. This aspect of their dynamic, specifically Stevie, bothers me. If she is going to stand up and talk about band skeletons (LB), she needs to speak up more often about all the good things he has done for her over the years. The negative talk has vastly outweighed the positive regarding LB. (and no I do not believe she really feels negatively towards him, I said above I feel it plays into the whole love/hate, hot/cold schtick they use to sell their show) "and we still have time to hate, but there's still something we can sell"'...

For whatever reason, Stevie must have just started taking too much - possibly over what the doctor had recommended. In other words, she may have started abusing it. My mother (who is 57) had to go to rehab last year for abusing Rx meds. But even after rehab she fell off the wagon, found another MD to prescribe her the stuff she likes, and ended up almost dying. Those pills can be deadly if abused. However, if used responsibly (like I imagine you are), they can be fine.

From the things she has said about it I gather her doctor miss prescribed this for her. She said he said it was for the depression from quitting coke. I wouldn't be surprised if she did take too much of it though. It's possible she was prescribed a dose too high though. It is really irresponsible to prescribe an addict an addictive drug. The whole thing was a combination of the doctor's negligence and Stevie's messed up state of mind. It really sucked because she lost half her 30s and some of her 40s to it. I'm so glad she emerged from it!

It is really irresponsible to prescribe an addict an addictive drug. I completely agree - that physician must've been as lax as they come. To even get a script I have to get a triplicate and take it to the pharmacy (no phone-ins allowed) and my psychiatrist asks me how much I'm taking, how I feel I'm doing, and then bases how many pills to prescribe on that. Everyone I've seen has always been extremely cautious with any of the benzodiazepines and prescribe them in the smallest quantities possible.

Of course, the doctor Stevie saw probably catered to the stars and had seen worse before. But thank goodness she realized she had a problem and got off of the stuff. It seems so ridiculous they'd give her a potentially addictive drug to get off of another. :distress:

I suspect she did. Gifted as she may be, and lucid as she seems, Stevie sounds as if she has some strange blind spots concerning such things. I mean, this is a person who says no one ever told them cocaine was dangerous.

I read in a book in 2nd grade (1973) all about heroin, pot, speed and coke. It was right there in print that it was dangerous, addictive, and illegal. I wasn't reading a classified top secret document. And I was seven years old. So, on the topic of drugs, I think Homegirl needs to be taken with a truck load o' salt.
