Well, you probably already thought of this one, but:

When can we expect a NEW CD (with NEW material) either solo or FM?

"So, no, seriously... ever gonna record new material again anytime soon?"

Deep breaths! She's just a regular ol' nice lady!

Oh yeah - and about meeting her...

I was SO close to meeting her this last tour. I had the pass and everything, but for reasons I don't need to get into, it didn't work out. Anyway, during the show I was getting really worked up thinking (at the time) that I was going to meet her afterwards. It was then I "checked myself" and didn't let myself think about it and then I was ok (besides the horrendous stomach ache I was having  ) So my advice: don't think about it until it happens and try to remain calm.
Have FUN!!!

Honest opinions -

Stevie reacts well to sincerity, and disrespects insincerity.
It's really that simple.
I would suggest not asking about the new cd,
it's still up in the air and a trouble area and something she
won't talk about while it's still in negotiations.
And don't gush, she's heard it ALL a million times before.
Sincere, well-thought out complements about what you think
of her and her music, and why. Maybe she's read some good
BOOKS lately or seen a good MOVIE that you have also.
The horse races themselves are an obvious thing to talk about
and the nice weather in Australia is an obvious fallback - nice
weather is a great time to go shopping, which is something that
Stevie loves to do - but has she been able to do any with her
busy schedule this week? (etc. - "OH what STORES? OH what's
it LIKE there did you LIKE it? - - - I personally like (store X)
have you ever seen their (etc.) How's the FOOD? Does she know
how they make (so-and-so). HEY how is Vanessa CARLTON'S
album coming along? How about that singer who opened at the
beginning of the TOUR this summer WHAT was her name again???
She seemed very NICE (etc.).
Remember that she's just as human as you are and is secretly
wondering what you think of her and if this new fancy dress thing
looks nice or funny (psst - look at the look on her face in some of
the pictures - she's worried these fancy people are all LAUGHING AT
her!. . . .) and worried she has spinich or something stuck in her teeth.
Remember that she's very intelligent, but, God bless her heart, she's
not very "sophisticated," or at least does not view herself in that way -
so don't let the "rich" environment and fancy clothes freak you out -
she'd rather be wearing jeans or sweats or something -
but she's having so much fun "playing dress-up" - another easy, light, fun
conversation topic. (Who did her HAIR??? Where did you get that DRESS it's
LOVELY!)
Honest, sincere, polite. Simple as that.
Anyway I hope somehow that helps.
OH and my question for her would be,
"OMG OMG OMG It's Stevie Freaking NICKS OMG you're so WONDERFUL
OMG will you SING this Oh MY GOD who is Beautiful Child
about and oh WOW will you sing RHIANNON and i just LOVE The Dance
and om G will you MARRY me!? and - oh - oh wow did i just SAY that I
oh wow I'm sorry I'm just so excited to BEMEETINGSTEVIEFREAKING
NICKS!!!!!" ;)

Tracker...how do you know she is in negotiations for a new album? She clearly has addressed that issue in several interviews and is putting out a
GH/retrospective. She says she has not written a song in 18 months? Lori Nicks said in her Q and A'..."at this time there are no plans for a solo album". Do you know something more than Lori and Stevie?

Brilliant! Thiank you so very much for all the advice, thats what i needed! I wonder though if i try to think of her as not "STEVIE" nicks and just a person, if i can then get an autograph?? How do you ask her that?

Thank you so much for your help!!

"laugh" yeah me too... though i hadn't thought of the poking! LOL. There will be no sleeping tonight!! Every night has been busy, tanning, shopping etc. Last night i got my head piece and earings and bracelet... night before picked up my hand made shawl! Well it was supposed to be a SHAWL but it turned out that she thought i said scarf! I could of necked her  Tonight i have my hair, tomorrow morning make up, then off we go!

I've said all along since i found out last friday that i think i will walk in the tent... see her across the way,,, freeze... pale,,, mouth will drop... she'll scan across the room and when her eye passes me... i shall then casually pass out! lol. Wake up in the hospital with a mild concussion at 9pm that night! Of course Stevie will come over and talk with my partner as im passed out while they await for an ambulance.... Now of course Stevie wanted to come visit me in the hospital but her plane departed that evening...

Well, "negotiations" may have been the wrong word - there's an article
either on here or That OTHER Board which was very recently posted
in which she talks about a possible greatest hits, or "retrospective,"
cd, for release next year. That's all I meant.
By "new album" I meant GH/retrospective cd.

Janis, I so hope this works out for you. Me? I'd be shaking like a leaf. I've met many famous people in my life, but Stevie is probably the only one who'd get me tongue-tied and shakey (okay, Madonna might, too, but only because she's a little terrifying, too!).

Anyway, I've always thought about what would I ever ask Stevie... keep in mind, you may have time for ONE question. Make it count! :) Follow your heart.

And then run your a$$ back here and spill every last detail!!!

Have an amazing time!!

every time i've interacted with a person of 'celebrity' status, it goes well if i'm not a huge fan. like there's someone i won't name who broke into tears as she passed her celeb crush on the street. not normal. i ran into -someone- at a fabric store and ended up chatting about upholstery for her couch. i am in love with that woman. but i don't think that came across. it also helped that she approached me and i didn't go right up to her and invade her space. that's big.

Hi Janis, I want to wish you good luck tommorow. When I met Stevie I was a nervous wreck. She came over to me, took both my hands in hers and looked right into my eyes with such a warmth that I began to feel a little less nervous. I only managed to tell her she was incredible! I can still hear her tell me thank you, feel our hug and the kiss :xoxo: we gave each other on the cheek, god I even can still remember how she smelled-lol! This was after I got to ask her question during the Storytellers taping, thats another story ;) -lol.Bottom line, just enjoy the moment. Trust me, its one that you will never ever forget. Stevie picks up on the good vibes from her fans and judging by your posts, she will pick up on yours! Best of luck, hon - I really want this to happen for you!!!!! :wavey:

Janis, wishing you the best of luck meeting Stevie and getting a chance to talk with her. Maybe you could work her ring into the conversation or ask about Jessie.

Kelly
11-03-2005, 11:43 PM
I would not ask her about the ring. She probably would not give an honest answer anyway. She is obviously proud of it though, the way she has her hand up on her shoulder in so many photographs. (I really like it because it is two pieces..a ring and a really extravagent ring guard) I like almost all her jewelry though.

You could tell her how wonderful it was of her to pass out the ipods to the injured soldiers. That might get a conversation going because it is something she is very passionate about. Her Dad might be too sad of a subject. I might go with the ipod thing if you want to engage her in conversation. If you want to ask questions about future albums, tours etc, go for it but I am not sure how forthcoming she will be.

DEFINITELY don't bring up her Dad at ALL, unless you want to REALLY
kill the moment. . . . i.m.o. it's WAY too personal and still way too sad
for her. She's there in Australia trying to take a break from the grief
and all of it - definitely doesn't need to be reminded.
I'd suggest something non-work related - after all, yeah she's having fun
but this is work for her, too - she probably will "close up" if you ask her
about upcoming albums, etc. Instantly her guard will go up - how does
she know that you're not really a reporter? Or that one isn't listening?
Also, it's hard to explain exactly what I mean here but -
TRUST her.
If you do,
she'll trust you.

Hmmm well i feel a bit weird and im not really present at the moment so im gong to post tomorrow :sorry: . Not feeling very good at the moment either because andrew mcmanussort of snapped at me and though i was with radio so wasn't allowing me much. I will say that se was around 1.5metres away from me for ages, i spoke with her assistant karen for a while though she didn't want to input in the conversation. Umm i did speak with Stevie i know that. And i told her i was nervous. Um did get 2 pics, one didn't really turn out. Andrew said i was strictly only aloud one and got angry when i asked dale to take two. That upset me. Got nothing signed, knew not to ask. She was in the same room as me for 30mins...

Im really upset at the moment because i didn't get to tell her anything, i didn't get to obtain a signature, didn't get to ask her any of your or my questions... And i spent a lot of energy on today.

aw Jayne that sucks ass :xoxo:
glad i didn't venture over there

i think after I go to the shows im going to
i will email McAnus and tell him what a ****er he is
just know that HE is the asshole and it is by no means a reflection of Stevie

I will share this story with you
In 2003 me and like 20 of my net friends flew over to Melb for the logies. We were specifically there to meet Georgie (Parker) coz most of us had written to her and she knew our group would be there that night. I spent the day with 2 other girls making posters and sticking up flyers all over the city lol while we waited for an appropriate time to start hanging around on the carpet. We got there pretty earlier and ended upstairs of the Crown at the top of the stairs outside the ballroom. Literally the best possible place to be. We were there and in the restaurant for about 2 hours before the RUDDEST security man in the world made us leave even though we had told him who we were waiting for, he said that Georgie wouldn't have time to meet with us so we shouldn't waste our time. So it was about 10 minutes before the arrivals started and there was No Way we would get a decent spot on the red carpet. We were PISSED. But long story short, we ended up in the front row at the end of the carpet before the stairs, got hugs, kisses and photos with Georgie and got invited to hang around after the show to talk with her and have photos etc.

Me and my 2 friends also got invited into the after party by a cast member who shall remain nameless but we didn't think he was serious and passed on that

I'm not a confronting person nor do i ever get lucky meeting anybody I want and this asshole security man made me want to fly home right then and there it was so bad.

i'm sorry u had such a sucky day. but know that it wasn't you and there are too many assholes in this world who exist just to make ordinary people's lives crap  :xoxo:

Egads, I had a feeling something like that would happen. I am so sorry...at least you got to talk to her. McMannus has taken to doing bodyguard duty it seems. The same thing happened at AHI..when the 1,000 dollar donors lined up to see her. Her people made it clear that there would be NO autographs, NO questions and you had to quickly pose for the one photo and move on.
So she was in the tent for 30 minutes? Did she say anything?

I cannot believe she wore stage clothes to this event. I thought she had some great outfits made? A dress from 1978 and the pants outfit from the tour? I like the pants but I am a bit stunned she wore stage clothes.

All things considered, you did get to meet her, outside of a concert or edge walk.

Think of how few fans can really say that. I would consider it a small victory!

I know what you mean, though. I once met her and it was over so quick I was beating myself up over what I said and did not say, and feeling like I concentrated on the camera too much and not enough on the moment. So it is normal to feel that way.

But still, Congrats!!

Hey Jayne, sorry you're feeling a little down about the experience. It's so hard after all the excitement to have it not go perfectly, isn't it? Well, you still did get to meet her, and hopefully the photo will give you good memories. Did you exchange any words with Stevie? A hello? I'm sure she knew, despite McAnus, that it meant the world to you to meet her. She seems to get it. Maybe after sleeping on it, you'll feel better. I hope so... Congrats in any case for even having the guts to do this!

I don't understand this type of thing. Not just with Stevie, but ANYONE. People pay boocoos (How do you spell that damn word, anyways? LOL) of cash and then are told, you can't talk to her, no autographs, run up there, pose for one millisecond and LEAVE THE PREMISES!!! I am NOT a cow and don't like to be treated like cattle, thank you. That just p*sses me off how security and those people treat you.

Sorry you had your hopes up of speaking with Stevie. :( That's cool you got a pic with her though. :)

I wonder if this could have been a "high expectations" thing?
In other words, you were SO excited to meet her, but wanted to
spend more time than was really feasible, this particular time around.
Remember there's a lot of crazies out there, as we've seen on That Other
Board recently - and McManus has absolutely no way of knowing
who's a totally normal fan and who's a nutbar.
Maybe there's a little "letdown" feeling afterward - but you got to MEET
her and even SPEAK with her, even if only briefly -
isn't that exciting?

Also, I have the impression that you were there in a Professional or at
least Semi-Professional capacity - maybe McManus didn't realize what
a huge FAN you are, and was treating you only from the viewpoint of
someone who was there to work? - hence "one picture ONLY," etc.?

Wow, I can understand why you feel the way you do. Why do people have to be so frickin rude?. At least you got to speak a few words with her and get a picture with her too! From your post it seems like this McAnus guy really got carried away with himself. Was Stevie aware of the way you were being treated? Well, I am happy :) for you that you got to meet her and got your pic with her, you did what you set out to do, even though it didn't go quite the way you thought it would :distress:

I am sorry Janis that McManus was so rude. After all anus is part of his last name, sorry he has to act like an a$$ hole.

On the flip side, I hope your second pic turned out okay. From other interviews though, it does seem like she is understanding of people who say they are nervous and she will do sometihng to make you feel more at ease. Hey, it is not every day that someone gets to meet their rock idol. You go girl. I give you lots of credit for the guts to go out there and do that. I would be a mass of quivering jello.

Wow, 1.5 meters away from you for 30 min. WOW. That is wonderful. Did you hear anything that Stevie was saying to other people? Maybe Stevie was a little bit nervous too. First time at the Melbourne Cup races and all.

I am sending you a BIG HUG

Stevie should be ASHAMED of herself
i wanna see sparkly NEW outfits

I don't consider the dress from 78 to be stage clothes either but the R and R outfit was. I was referring to Stevie's comments that she was having a ball with Margi getting her outfits in order and she specifically mentioned having outfits made to go with some theme. She looked lovely in the black dress outfit even though she needed a bra. I saw a bit more of Stevie than I wanted to, thanks.

I think maybe for the presentation of the "Plate" itself (on TV in the
country where she is touring in February...) Stevie wanted to look like
a Rock Star more than a Fancy Horse Race person. She was maybe
being a Rock Rebel a little bit and dressing like SHE wanted to, not
like these Fancy so-and-so's would have preferred her to -
"take it or leave it, I don't care what you think" etc.
I bet you ANY amount of money that some of these people were
whispering behind her back about the huge feathers in her hat, for
example.
Trust her, hmmm?

Two words.
The first one's "Bill."
Can you guess the second?
The crazies ruin it for everyone else,
and from a "Security" point of view they had a freakin' nightmare
on their hands. Obviously I can only guess since I wasn't there
but I think they did their best with what they considered to be
a potentially dangerous situation.

thank you guys for your words, they really are appreciated, and i need them at the moment. Its now monday and im at work. To be honest I dont know what is going on with me. I seem to be in a depressed state and yet it is not like me. I am going to be honest and some ledgies may not take it well, i was a little disappointed in stevie. She seemed to be more like them.... I could tell she was doing business, which i know is what she was there fore, and really i should of expected it since she has been doing business stuff for 30years, but i couldn't help but expect what everyone has always said she is. I was expecting someone to be interested, social, warm and i dont know.. I
I shall post the pics up tonight. In the andrew tent i was made to feel very common. Dale and i know how to dress, and we are not paupers and we are familiar with a professional environment, but boy i have really walked away feeling damn sh%t. I had a lady tell me when i told her how i had come to be there say "oh i didn't know they were letting the general public in" and when i very kindly asked an appropriate lady how i obtain tickets and she did kindly say that they could do that for me, when she introduced me to the one who could arrange it she said "now this doesn't mean you can get them cheaper, or a deal or any of the sort ok" i was terribly offended. So i have been haunted since and feel very upset by my experience.
I know that i should feel so happy that i got to meet her, and that is a wonderful moment, but i was so shaken up that even though i was there... i wasn't. And i missed it. It meant so much to me and as you know i went to great efforts yet i missed it. Guys i had the opportunity and time to say those things we dream of saying and i didn't say any of it. I could of asked for an autogragh... and i didn't. I had bought the box set etc with me and a gold pen and could of asked for a signature, but i was too scared that i would be rejected and receive disapproval. I cant remember what i said.... because i was so shocked at how i was spoken to by Andrew that i lost myself and my calmness and clarity of mind was shaken along with my self esteem so i ended up wasting my opportunity... As you can see i am terribly upset in myself, terribly upset with a wasted opportunity that i made happen yet threw away. I dont know now how to approach the lady at Andrew company about the tickets.. How do i phrase the email as i now feel ant size and want to come across as someone who does matter and boy i'd love to obtain backstage passes so i could try again  .

Oh great i missed her on tv and radio this morning... Cant seem to win at the moment.

So here i am at work, 10.25am, and everyone is asking me how it went, and they all know something is majorly up, been asked by my boss whats going on and i want is to go home.

I dont know whats up with me...??
Im sorry that i am like this, i know i have also disappointed you guys, but tonight i shall post the pic i do have. And yes stevie was thinner than what i expected. She did have a lot of make up on and she certianly knew how to pose. I have to go down the road and get yesterdays paper to see the pics of her sitting wearing the glasses... she was sitting 1.5metres away from me having those taken.

Hope to be in better spirits for you all tonight and remember something :wavey: .. mind i think has blackened it out..

Hello dear, I am not trying to hurt your feelings but you should be quite happy you got your pic taken with her. Most of us haven't and never will. Stevie does not owe you anything. Maybe this letter will make some sense to you. Its been on the Pat Benatar board for years. It kind of relates to your experience. If it makes you feel any better I met Stevie face to face in 2001, and no she wasn't very nice at all. In fact I left the brief encounter comparing her to all the rock singers I have met in the past Pat Benatar, Cyndi Lauper, Cher, Belinda Carlisle, Debbie Harry etc etc. Stevie was the most remote and unfriendly out of all of them. Yeah I know the next part of this is bla bla if I was Stevie I would probably be the same damn way. I would not be all that friendly to strangers annoying me either. She cannot go anywhere without people annoying and bugging her. I still think the years of drug abuse have made her cold and bitter.

Ok anyway here is the letter:

Pat Benatar Fan Club
A Letter from a FanA fan club member sent this note to me after one of the past concerts. It is posted here not to criticize, impart feelings of guilt or other wrongdoing. It is simply here to help us keep our perspective on things. Feel free to let me know your thoughts by clicking on the link at the bottom of the page:

There are certain benefits that some people have earned by running the fan club and doing a whole lot of the work. I've certainly benefited, (and have done less than my share of the work) but as much as I enjoy getting back to say hello, I still don't feel like it's my right, and I'm grateful for the opportunity.

If people are going to the shows because they believe that being a fan club member means the you have the right to meet Pat, then they haven't read their ticket stubs, nor do they understand what a fan's rights are.

You have the right to good music.

You have the right to attend as many shows as you can afford.

You have the right to discuss your feelings about the music and shows on the listserver or lurk if you want to.

You do not have the right to forcefully thrust your opinions on other people. If they don't agree with you, they don't agree. Let it go.

You do not have the right to wander into the venue and announce that you belong because you are a fan club member. If you are invited by Pat, Neil or the band, then by all means, if a meet and greet is planned, come on in.

Soundchecks and backstage are by invitation only.

Being a fan club member simply means that you are a fan who has had the good taste to hook up with a bunch of other fans to discuss topics that interest you all. It is a social group. It is free! You do not have to be here. You are not "owed" anything. You do not have a right to anything that is not given freely.- A Fan

I understand what you are saying. I know Stevie doesn't know or owe me anything, and my upset isn't so much with Stevie as it is with my overall experience there which im angry that i allowed it to ruin my time with her. I know i should be grateful for the photo, i know that... i saw her getting so many photo's taken that it was difficult to take the nasty tone given to me by the promoter when he overheard i was getting one. I feel as though i let not only myself down but also the people who knew i was going, and of course the ledgies here. I expected more of myself, and i feel an overwhelming amount of disappointment in myself as i let other fans down too.

Yeah i know... and i normally would take that feeling away from the day! This is not like me.... !!

Thats why i feel so unusual and dont know how to deal with my feelings, because they dont make any sense to me. I dont understand why i feel this way, i SHOULD feel lucky and fortunate yet i cant friken understand why i dont! Thats why i decided not to post on saturday and i decided not to get online at all yesterday.. the only reason i could think of as to why i felt so messed up was because i was tired... yet the feeling wont leave. So i decided to be honest and share how i was feeling and try to come up with why it was that way by explaining it out loud as to try and help myself and also explain as to why i had disappeared.

I dont feel like the day actually happened at all, its real weird

The pic is on the camera still, i shall upload tonight...

I'm not Janis, but a picture would lose a lot if it's value if it was taken at an event where I was made to feel common and beneath the other people there. In any event, Janis, I'm sorry that it wasn't a good experience for you. Try not to let it wear on your mind, though, it's essentially pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things. Some things work out, some don't. There's always a better, more fulfilling experience to be had out there.

true, tho that is the nature of showbiz - and I was just saying not to let the attitude of some insignificant bozo who happened to have a little power make her feel like crap and enjoy the good things she was able to take from the experience. stevie surely wouldn't appreciate that jackass acting like that...and I wouldn't let him ruin a happy moment being that close to stevie and having a record of it...that's life...gotta take the good with the bad...and being that close to stevie and having a freaking picture too is pretty rad, my friend

Jayne- I think you are feeling this way because you had such high expectations. Somehow I think I'd probably feel the same way you do. Don't be embarrassed for how you feel.

Hello dear, I am not trying to hurt your feelings but you should be quite happy you got your pic taken with her. Most of us haven't and never will. Stevie does not owe you anything.

I don't believe she thought that Stevie owed her anything. I think the vibe was just really sh*tty, perhaps due to other people there, perhaps due in part to Stevie herself. She was letdown and is feeling badly. And truthfully, if I'm going to be honest, I think celebrities do owe it to their fans to be kind and, oh maybe- nice, in this particular setting. It's not like she accosted Stevie at a restaurant.

I'm not Janis, but a picture would lose a lot if it's value if it was taken at an event where I was made to feel common and beneath the other people there. 11-06-2005, 09:26 PM

:(

I'm sorry you felt like this, but I think it's very common. Sometimes meeting someone you admire so much can be a blissful experience and some other times, the time slows down or goes incredibly fast, mind goes numb, you'd like to say so much, but thoughts don't seem to take a shape, the celebrity seems tired or distant, someone is rude, not because of you, but just to put boundaries, and doesn't realize how negative it's his behaviour in that moment. But in some time, the feelings' knot would become less heavy, and the photo would bring many more positive emotions too, I'm sure. :)

Expectations can never be too high...personally, I don't think that yours were. A few minutes of light conversation, a photo - an autograph...to me is not asking the world. It doesn't appear by your posts that you were expecting to become one of the "inner circle" or that you would walk away as Stevie's best friend...you just wanted a "moment' and don't feel bad about being let down. Noone has the right to treat you poorly. This McManus person for all his imagined power is obviously an ungracious fool...never get upset by his ilk they thrive on making others feel "common". As to Stevie - she probably didn't even know what was going on. I love her music and I've loved listening to it for many, many years but I really never even wonder nor care what she would be like in person. That's not where my interest is... I guess I like to imagine she'd be a nice person - but in the end as long as she entertains and delivers her part of our relationship (her music)..it's all good. Be happy you had the moment and a picture and try to just forget all of the other insanity. It sounds like you handled yourself with dignity which makes you a far better person than most that were there by the sounds of it. Can't wait to see your picture and I'm sure someday you will cherish it...and even laugh at the whole thing...;)

In the andrew tent i was made to feel very common.

Oh, Jayne, I'm so sorry about all this. It sounds like it wasn't necessarily Stevie who disappointed you, but the other people who were there. And I completely agree - they ruined it for you. You wanted it to be perfect, but even before you were face to face with Stevie, your confidence was blown and you were feeling insecure. That's just so awful. People can be mean - especially people who think they deserve privilege more than others. I don't know the horse race business at all, but it does sound like one that involves people of great riches and snobbery. They probably get off on nothing more than making someone feel beneath them. :distress:

Again, try not to feel too down. Look at your pictures and just feel happy that you got to see Stevie and even shake her hand (which I assume you did?). What did Stevie say to you? One other thing - maybe Stevie felt nervous and out of her element, too. Maybe she didn't expect to be meeting fans. It all could have affected her behaviour, too.

Chin up - and I say try for the backstage passes. It's a chance at a whole different experience - and you have nothing to lose for trying. :xoxo:

She knows Jayne, that's what has kept her great all these years...you are so young and a class act too - good for you!! You will get the chance again - I really believe that!! I felt this way after just a couple of concerts where I got to shake her hand. It was indescribable. It was a kind of sadness that the concert was through and I barely remembered the Edge walk and when she leaned over to shake my hand.

It's just these high hopes that are normal for anyone to have going into something like this, and unfortunately it usually turns out to be a disappointment. If I were ever given the opportunity to meet her, I would probably be ultra-pessimistic going in so that I would have no hopes that could be squelched.

And somewhere in the back of my mind, any time I find myself getting too excited over a celebrity, I kind of correct myself and say, "Big deal - they have talent but also had to have a lot of lucky breaks and connections." Bottom line is they're the same as all of us at the end of the day. They just happen to have fame and more money. They're not gods and goddesses, not immortal, not immune to failure, etc. Mind you, I'm a pessimist by nature, so this may not come easy to optimists. ;)

Not sure if this rambling makes sense, but I get how you're feeling. This McManus jerk is obviously like most executive "suits" - fat and egotistical. Don't let it get you down, and I can't wait to see your picture.

i did have high expectations, and i couldn't seem to force them to dwindle.. i knew i had to but i just couldn't.

Gack, this reminds me of the time I drove 2,000 miles to meet Mark Wahlberg. It was an expensive trip too. When I got there, his personal assistant - the one who invited me, acted like he barely knew who I was and we had been chatting on line for weeks prior to the event. Mark and his entourage were whisked to the VIP room and nobody else was allowed. When he came out, I sheepishly asked if he would mind posing for a photo with me and he said he couldn't, they had to leave. I cried that night in the hotel room. On the drive home I felt sick and depressed. So I totally know what you're going thru. I know the next time something comes up like this for you, you won't have any trouble squelching those high expectations cuz they won't be there. Several months after my Mark ordeal, I had front row for a Stevie concert and I had NO expectations. I was pleasantly suprised that she spoke 6 whole words to me when I handed her a necklace. Of course I could say nothing in return, just smiled. I guess that's the other side of not having any expectations... you get blind sided! Oh well... can't wait to see your picture. I have pics I took of Mark even tho he wouldn't pose with me... and I love them now. But there was a time when they used to sting.

Hugs,
Laura

I hope you feel better soon Jayne. One of the worst things about meeting Stevie is you always come away wanting more. It's never enough... Sorry you have to experience some nastiness from the people around her. Maybe they just didn't expect a fan to be in the tent? Still no reason for them to be nasty to you.

I must admit my experience of meeting Stevie was great... she was everything I imagined. If she didn't come across that way to you maybe it was because you took her by surprise? She probably didn't expect a huge Stevie fan to be in the tent?

Please don't think I was suggesting that you did. Just a thought that maybe she wasn't expecting to come across a fan in the tent.

I hope you can get to meet her next year and that you have a better experience!

Jayne! Absolutely stunning picture of you with Stevie. You both look beautiful and I am thoroughly jealous. :xoxo:

You know, someone posted something earlier that made me think. The last time I saw Stevie (this past tour) I was lucky enough to get front row (well, actually it was 3rd row, but we made it front row). I was so excited I could hardly contain myself. The whole day of the show, I couldn't eat- I was a total wreck. When she first walked out on stage and everyone was screaming, she had the most radiant smile on her face. That's pretty much all I really remember about being that close to her (other than the edge walk where I FINALLY got to touch her hand- she's always avoided me in the past- heh). ANYway, my point? I had a major feeling of disappointment afterward that could not be explained. I think after a few days, you'll start to settle down. That picture is really beautiful (as was your whole outfit!) and I think over time you will come to treasure it.

ETA: Just re-read some stuff. Don't feel bad about not asking her questions. I've been there. My expectations are ALWAYS high for any event I go to...and I'm usually let down, not always, but usually. It's hard not to be excited and then, when something goes wrong, you are depressed about it. It will pass, trust me. :) You will have more chances when Stevie comes back for her tour next year.

And don't feel bad about anything you were feeling about the event- I am SO SORRY you were made to feel "beneath them"- I know that is a horrible way to be treated and I know how much you were looking forward to it. That photo is great Jayne. I know how you feel regarding being disappointed in yourself and being made to feel "common". In '98 I went to the AHI benefit. I traveled from Boston and got a front row seat to the concert. That donation was $1,000. There were a lot of fans there but there were also a lot of donor types. They seemed shocked that we were there.

The concert was a wonderful experience. Stevie came out to me first and took both of my hands for like, a lifetime! Seriously, time stood still and it was just amazing. I got one photo of her and "lucky me" security was right behind me and made me put the camera away. She watched me like a hawk, I was so pissed. I was mad at myself for not looking around before snapping the pic and not getting more. But now I cherish that one pic!

Anyway, the after party was where I became really upset. This was the year the benefit was poorly organized and Stevie left early. We were told to sit at our tables and be patient. But a lot of agressive fans were up getting things signed. Stevie was overwhelmed and left. I was sooo depressed it was unreal. So was everyone else. I was also mad at myself for being a good little girl following instructions instead of just pushing through to see Stevie. But that's not my style.

I actually went to Vegas on that same trip and met Sharon Celani in the airport. I gave her my sob story and she offered me backstage passes. Then after the Vegas concert we went backstage and waited for a while, finally the third time I saw Sharon peek out I went up to her and reintroduced myself, she had forgotten who I was. Then she invited us right in and she was really gracious and wonderful. She offered us water and took care of us for a bit. We took our picture with her, we met Carlos Rios too. He went and asked Stevie if she would see us after her MTV interview (with Elena for Fanatic) and she said no because she was exhausted. It was awful. I was so upset, that was one of my most depressing moments. So I know how you feel because I had these expectations and then they were dashed twice. To be so close but yet so far.

As others have said, you have your picture and you will cherish it! It really is gorgeous as everyone has said. I agree with the person who said to blow it up to poster size! Hehe.

You will feel better. Its okay to feel bad for a little while but know you will come out of it. :xoxo:

Thank you goldenbraid: you are right, i think i will feel better in a few days. Just this morning and yesterday especially i have felt so down. Im feeling a bit better today
Photo's in 6hrs

I can definitely understand how you might be feeling currently.
But I'd like to suggest that you try to keep in mind that Stevie's
still grieving right now. 8 weeks (or whatever it is), is not a long time to get
over the death of a loved one, and they were very close.
Stevie's 57 - 8 weeks probably seems just the same as yesterday
to her. It's one quarter of one percent of her entire life so far.
99.75% of her life so far, occurred before this happened.
Also she was working (networking) but also maybe trying to take
a little break from it all - but maybe in a way she was a little
disappointed herself. I heard that it turned out that it wasn't
possible to see the races from McManus's tent - apparently they
ended up escorting her to some sort of VIP room where she could
watch on TV. She must've been like, "Well GEE I could have
watched TV at home!"
So maybe Stevie gave you the best she could under circumstances
that were more difficult than appearances would indicate, at first blush.
And McManus, well, I just don't know. Maybe he's not used to having
somebody as famous as Stevie as a guest, and wasn't quite sure where
to draw the line.
I've heard that Stevie at least tries to read every single
one of the Christmas Cards she receives through Nicksfix - maybe you
could send her one and let her know who you are and how you felt
about meeting her, and why, and that you hope to talk to her more
Next Time. Maybe she'll feel more social in February.

"OH, and BY the WAY, YOU look BEAUTIFUL!" :)

Anyway I'm sorry you felt let down but I hope that it'll end up being
a very happy memory for you. :)

Jayne,

Just try to relax and take your cue from Stevie. She is very very easy to talk to and she will usually start the conversation for you. She know's that you are nervous and she is very good at making you feeling comfortable. You'll be talking to Stevie the person, not Stevie Nicks the Queen of Rock and Roll. You'll become one of the gang backstage! Stevie is your biggest fan as much as you are hers! She let's you know and feel this!

I've met Stevie a few times and each time was awesome!

It's a good idea to have just a few things to either ask or tell her but the conversation will go to areas you never even thought of and it's kinda cool mainly because you can be so nervous when you first meet.

Have a great time! You'll remember it forever!

Rox

I really get the impression that this was more of a "McManus Problem"
than a Stevie problem. He was being Mr. Security Guard and maybe
trying to be Mr. Protective, etc. But like I said above, i.m.o. he might
not be used to dealing with somebody so famous and well-loved, and
wasn't sure where to draw the line.
And he needs to buy a comb.

I decided to post my picture (with my profile) of Tori Amos and me from August at the amazing Boston show. She is the most warm and cool celebrity out there as far as fans go. I watched her look at over 50 fans in the eyes and listen to them, REALLY listen. She remembered their names, professions, ect. I have been a HUGE Tori fan since 1998 and it was one of the coolest moments of my life to meet someone who has inspired me so much. And her security guard Smitty is one of the coolest cats ever. So hang in there Janis. You looked beautiful. Stevie looked genuinely happy having her picture taken with you. I would be too scared to meet Stevie because she is every bit the "stah" and the "Rock and Roll princess".... but you did it!! And I totally understand your feelings of disappointment. I have heard a few different stories regarding Stevie and other Fleetwood Mac members and I am not surprised by this. That's all I will say regarding that. But you will always have that picture! The first thing she did say to me was " i like your outfit" or "your outfit looks very nice" And she held both my hands, i remember that bit to try and put me at ease... didn't help  She laughed at me because i told her how my mum had called me to say that she was going to be on radio in the morning and i denied it saying to my mum that "stevie doesn't do mornings" and she thought it was so funny that she turned to tell someone. Oh PLEASE.

Pardon me while I vomit.

It was her Father. Not her husband of decades. Not her lover. This is just idiotic. This makes me absolutely nuts. Not only is she not made of tissue paper, but the man was sick for a long time, and it was his time to go. He lived a long, productive, joyful life and Stevie has said as much. What a farce of a statement. Give it a rest already with the grief schtick. She wasn't so crippled that she couldn't drag out a feathered hat. Lord Have Mercy. I could go on, but let me just stop now and say this is a spectacularly stupid line of thought.

Hi Janis,

I haven't read the whole thread... but I saw the post where you talked about how the other people made you feel when you were at the MCup to meet Stevie. All I can say is this.. the Melb cup attracts a few/lot of people who are snobs. I have lived in Melbourne and NZ and there is a certain type there who are basically middle class with xtra money and they think they are absolutely bloody brilliant. They think that $= class, importance, whatever. This is their big social occasion of the year and they, for reasons of their own, wanted to make themselves feel more important... maybe they felt intimidated by Stevie and insecure.. who knows. Don't let people like that make you feel small. Laugh at them. They are pretty pathetic, I think, if they are behaving the way you described.

I would love to meet Stevie, but I am only too aware also that while to me she is this one in a billion, a very special person, to her I am one in a billion fans, one of the many many thousands who have met her for an instant and for that reason a meeting with her will necessarily feel one sided. I think you are very very brave to have talked to her, to have risked being disappointed. You should be proud of that... and try again.

Don't feel that others in the past have had a much better meeting with her... you made her laugh, that must have been great. Remember that part. Forget the rest.

Nice pictures.. you looked great (cool dress)

Thank you all for your kind supportive words, i feel almost normal now, and it really is due to the gorgeous pm's and posts! I am determined to make it happen again in feb/march... so i will, coz i dont want to have to come over to the US to meet her again... $$.

$1705!!

But i met her.. and got a photo.

Um dont remember anything else... too big a moment and because Andrew had snapped at me i was put out. I shall put up the other photo of stevie and i tonight. She is smiling more.

Okay, I gotta say, you did really well. To be able to make a crack like that while meeting her. You have been very hard on yourself, I'm sorry that person snapped at you. What happened again, he thought you were with radio? I think Stevie would be pissed if she knew how he made you feel.

Janis-

I hope you feel better by today about how everything went down. Just concentrate on the good parts of that time, and forget the snobby a-holes who have to put people down to make themselves feel powerful and important.

I would love to meet Stevie. I've been close several times, but no cigar.:( I've thought about attending the AHI benefit in order to do that, but from what I've read here and other sites the chance of it being a disappointment would be too great.
Although my ultimate dream is to meet Stevie, I've recently come to the conclusion that basically it will only happen if it's meant to happen. I used to think to myself that I could MAKE it happen if I tried hard enough. I used to think - how hard could it be?- people meet her all the time. But I've learned that it IS hard to meet her and I need to let it go and be grateful for what experiences I HAVE had pertaining to Stevie. I guess in a way I'm kind of letting go of a dream, but at the same time if that dream ends up coming to ME somehow, it would be fantastic.

ok, this is probably a dumb thing to ask, or maybe it has already been discussed, but i saw a web site for some company that 'rents' out high dollar celebs for business meetings, fund raisers, etc. and stevie was on the list. does anyone know anything about that? if a certain group of people wanted an informal, casual evening wouldn't that be the easiest way to meet someone? just wondering......

UPDATED...ADDED ANOTHER PIC OF STEVIE AND I, (the only other one and as you can see i was talking)

ORIGINAL POST:
Ok, my fingers are crossed that indeed i shall be meeting stevie nicks tomorrow for the very first time. I hope to be given the opportunity to ask her a few questions, and not freeze up entirely!! Im really unsure how to approach her too.... what do i say, what does she react well to?? Has anyone met her who can enlighten me a little??

ANYWHO:

QUESTIONS: what is the question you would like an answer to?? i'll try and ask as many as i can...

I thought it was "Seven Wonders" :p

oh.. and while you're at it, ask her where "Emmiline" is..
That was actually a wrong take that stayed in. Sandy Stewart wrote the lyric
"All the way back, You towed the line" Stevie fresh out of Betty Ford messed up the line and was horrified when she discovered the mistake. fleetwood Mac refused to go back in the Studio to re record the song as Tango In The Night was way behind schedule waiting for Nicks. True story!

Janis, I so hope this works out for you. Me? I'd be shaking like a leaf. I've met many famous people in my life, but Stevie is probably the only one who'd get me tongue-tied and shakey (okay, Madonna might, too, but only because she's a little terrifying, too!).

Anyway, I've always thought about what would I ever ask Stevie... keep in mind, you may have time for ONE question. Make it count! :) Follow your heart.

And then run your a$$ back here and spill every last detail!!!

Listen you did fine. Let it go. I have had 2 brushes with Stevie. Once on the phone.I was tongue-tied. Once in person w/ Sharon. Even though it was positive overall and we spoke for awhile..it was SHARON that was gracious and kept it all going smoothly because SHARON could see how much it meant to me. When I asked for an Autograph..it was SHARON who pulled out her organizer and turned around so Stevie could write on her back. Otherwise..Stevie was a little cold..very distrustful & very guarded. Our heros often disappoint us. I walked away happy but remember Stevie as being not so warm after all. She definitely fell off the pedestal for me that day. And SHARON..walked away my new hero..A CLASS ACT! Thank you Sharon! Yes..I am grateful to have met Stevie & got the autograph..but did she impress me as a person???...no! And I agree..Stevie owes us all nothing.

I would like to thank you for proving to me that there is no such thing
as unutterable nonsense.
Why do you have to be so vicious in your remarks?
And why does everyone on this board
have to be so mean to each other?
It's actually no surprise to me after the many, many negative things
that I've heard people say about it from so many different sources.
But what does surprise me is that Stevie Nicks fans
can be so mean and vicious to each other.
When you really think about it it's kind of sad. :(

Very true! I have heard Stevie referred to as both a real sweetheart and a royal b*tch. I have heard everything from, "oh my god she stuck her tongue down my throat" to "she was downright rude".

I think there are several factors which come into play that determine "which Stevie" a fan will get on any given day. She is human and she has moods. Some days she just doesn't feel like dealing with fans.

Also, I think if a fan is overly eager it kinda scares her and she puts up her wall. And some people just rub her the wrong way.

I think people often have unrealistic expectations of her. I mean could you imagine getting home from work and having to do a meet and greet with total strangers. But, she does them and most who have done the meet and greets that I have heard of had really nice things to say about her, but perhaps not her people. I mean could you imagine trying to organize one of those when some of those people are scary and think if they meet her she will be their new best friend for life. I am unsure how I would react to that year after year. Then, people stopping her on the street,e tc. I get that she getes paid a bunch of money and some think that that gives them a right to speak with her, but sometimes I think that must get old for her and a little scary given some of the people who have done weird stuff to her.

But, to those she has been a royal B. to - there is no excuse for that.

When the crazy girl came up the steps, Stevie just kind of stepped backward, and then security pulled the girl back down the steps (while she was reaching for Stevie the whole time). I didn't see if they actually kicked her out of the venue or not.

I should probably also mention that although I've never met Stevie personally, she did very graciously acknowledge something I did for her. She went over and beyond what I ever would have expected too.

She went crazy for your gift Jamie! By far, the best reaction a fan could ever wish or ask for!

When the crazy girl came up the steps, Stevie just kind of stepped backward, and then security pulled the girl back down the steps (while she was reaching for Stevie the whole time). I didn't see if they actually kicked her out of the venue or not.
Wow... it's scary that people try stuff like that. I mean do they really think they will get away with it?

I think people often have unrealistic expectations of her. ....when some of those people are scary and think if they meet her she will be their new best friend for life. .

But, to those she has been a royal B. to - there is no excuse for that.

I agree with all that, except the last sentence. I know there are times I have been a royal b**** to people (and once in a rare while, it's even undeserved :) ), and I'm sure everyone on this board has too. Stevie's human, and has emotions. Artists tend to have even stronger emotions than others. Why shouldn't she be allowed to be a b**** at times? The greatest fan in the world may be coming up to meet her and telling her how great she is, but if she just took a phone call that the air conditioner in the Phoenix house conked out and its 110 degrees in her house, how pleasant do you expect her to be right at that moment? How pleasant could you be at that moemnt -- honestly????

As far as meeting her (or any celebrity), I also agree some people's expectations are just too high. These people should try to look at it from Stevie's perspective. Even though it is a once (or twice) in a lifetime moment for them --HUGE for them -- it's only 15-30 seconds out of Stevie's 24-hour day -- .0003 of her day!!! They're been waiting their whole life to meet her, or spent a lot of money in the expectations of meeting her. But for her, its just one more face in a sea of faces. I'm sure she tries to realize that it's a special event for these fans, but there are times in life that she just can't be "on". She probably meets people ALL the time, and these people may not realize that Stevie's mind may be on other things. The fact that she can even give anyone that "moment of connecting" is great.

Also keep in mind, the fans know more about Stevie's songs/outfits/videos/hair styles, etc. than Stevie herself probably remembers! Do you remember what you wore in 1998? Probably not...but some of you can tell exactly what cape Stevie wore with what dress for what song of any tour. Some people spend a LOT of time focusing on every little thing Stevie does. And that's COOL!!!!! But they can't expect Stevie (or any artist) to be as obsessed with her own life as some of her fans are. Can you imagine being asked why you wore a white cape for a certain song 10 years ago instead of the black one? (And I'm sure that's a burning question for someone that if they ever get the chance to meet Stevie, they're gonna ask her!!!!) Stevie would probably look at them as if they're nuts....and then they walk away wondering why "Stevie was such a b****" to them.

no you wouldn't. no one would. have you ever been in a house in some cold northern state in december and had the heater break down?

my electric company was doing some maintenance on something in my neighborhood in july this year- and the whole block's electricity accidently got cut off. within 20 minutes it was over 100 degrees in the house

an air conditioner is a life line in phoenix in the summer. you will get heat stroke and people have been known to die in houses without air conditioning in the summer...

I remember her saying in '94 that, thanks to the residuals from Smashing Pumpkins' version of "Landslide," she could finally get the crack in her pool fixed.

Did you read this somewhere ? I find that figure quite hard to believe. I base this on the fact that Dolly made about 2-3 million when Crackney destroyed "I Will Always Love You", and that monstrosity was number one for something like 10 weeks and sold over a million copies as a single alone. Not to mention the royalties from the soundtrack, which also sold an insane amount of copies. All tolled it seems that the Landslide cover moved a fraction of those numbers. Like, maybe a fifth of that much.

BTW, Christine isn't making bank off her songwriting roylaties anymore. She sold her publishing to Sony in the mid nineties for a paltry 4 or 5 million dollars. Not sure about the details of the deal, but the publisihing rights, she sold. Though she would still be getting performance royalties, which are different.

I think Stevie is alot more than moderatley wealthy. Publishing is where the real money is in the music industry and Stevie owns plenty of that in her songs outright on her own. Shes getting paid alot of royalties from radio play and some from record sales .She does have to share mechanical royaties with Mac members, others who have played on her solo records depending what kind of deal was worked out and publishing with anyone who has cowritten with her . Count in tour money, merchandising and investments, shes got plenty of money to be considered "rich"! :)

Songwriters get paid a different and much larger portion of money for the songs than a performer. They both get money when it is played somewhere, but only the songwriter gets paid when a song is covered. I am not sure how the structure works - there is an industry standard for performers and writers but extremely prominent people can renogotiate these percentages.

That means she gets paid for her playing on the songs, everytime you here it on the radio. I think she was foolish to sign those publishing rights away to Sony. Whenever those songs get used anywhere, like tv, movies, compilations, Sony gets paid because they own the song. Hopefully we won't hear Don't Stop on the next Cadillac commercial, Christine would be losing a fortune!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't think mechanical royalties are as much as publishing. Thats why Sir Paul is so pissed that Wacko Jacko bought The Beatles publishing. But the best part of that is, he borrowed against alot of it from Sony - so he owes out the but! I have this to add about royalties.

I am a member of BMI ( www.bmi.com ) and so are Christine, Stevie, John & Mick. (Lindsey is a member of ASCAP)

When you register a work, you can divide up percentages between yourself (the songwriter) and the publisher. For some reason, BMI does it as 200% being the maximum, and the most a songwriter can get (if they don't have a publisher). The publisher can only get as much as 100% of that 200%.

In any case, I don't know what you're all talking about with Christine's royalties. She's still getting as little as half of them.

EDIT: I may have discovered what this all meant. I believe now that Christine owned the publishing company known as "Fleetwood Mac Music". I think she gave the publishing company to BMG, as the publisher for Everywhere, for example says "CAREERS BMG MUSIC (FLEETWOOD M".

BTW, look up Stand Back in the BMG database and see who else is pulling royalties off of it. ;)
