View Full Version : Soundstage dvd arrived yesterday...

I apologize if this has already been posted, I scanned this forum and did not see anything...
My soundstage dvd arrived yesterday. The two bonus songs are cool but they do not seem to be as tweaked as the rest of the show, IMHO. "I am Waiting" was pretty and the guitar he played during that song was beautiful. The extras seemed ok to me, there were tons more audience shots, a few more speeches..a long poem before Go Insane, a Big Love speech that made Lindsey cry :xoxo: ... but nothing that blew me away.

Did you order from PBS? Figures. I ended up cancelling mine because I had to wait so long. Was anything else different?;)

Yes, I ordered from PBS. I got an email that it was backordered and expected to be shipped on Nov. the eighth. I was pleasantly surprised it arrived yesterday. It was sad when Linds started crying talking about the irony of Big Love nowadays...when he mentioned his beautiful house on the hill, it made me tear up! That beautiful view is gone. :distress: Ah well, maybe the new place has a nice view, too. :p

So Big Love was the same as it was on the PBS special shown on TV?

It was a rather large white guitar that looked old. People opined it was a Strat. Not knowing guitars, I could not tell you if that was a correct assessment. Goldie could though.

Both actually but I was referring to his guitar. It was pretty cool looking but I know **** about guitars so someone else will have to describe.
Patty, it was the same version of Big Love but he added some talk onto the dvd. No dedication persay just how the words to Big Love had taken on a sense of irony to him nowadays..then he teared up and said "you all should know this one" and started the song.
I preferred the blurb of IaW that we heard on DR...personally I think the song sounded better with both SnL but it was still nice to hear something new.

I didn't realize the thing was actually coming out anytime soon, so imagine my surprise when I had one to put out on the shelves with the other new releases at Borders last night. Not that I actually put it on the shelf, I just slapped a hold on it for MEEE.
So- I think that most Borders stores around the country got at least one copy per store, if you're tired of waiting for your online order.

Nope not here in Providence. I did the online reservation too and when I call them today they told me that they could not located one. WTF?
I called Best Buy, Circuit City and Newberry Comics and none to be found. I did finally find one at a Strawberries here in Providence and I told them that they were the only place that had it and they said that they are usually the last place to get everything.
Now, I can finally watch it! I think that I can even see myself on the back cover photo.

I bought it at BEst Buy yesterday (a mere $12 on my employee discount!) and watched it last night. I have to say...."Down on Rodeo" actually made me cry. What a song! the guitar parts are great...too bad that song didnt make it on Say You Will. I was slightly disappointed with GYOW and the key change...but whatever. Red Rover was cool...and I really like "Murrow" as well.

I don't have the DVD yet, but based on the Soundstage PBS airing "Down on Rodeo" was by far my favorite track. It just worked so well live to me, and I agree it should've been on SYW..The best part of the song to me is the backing vocals on the chorus.

I agree, Down on Rodeo was incredibly moving. I love how lush it sounds and the backing vocals are awesome. DoR and SGCYM were my favorite songs from his Soundstage. (oh and Trouble because I have always liked that one!)

yeah down on rodeo is definitely the highlight. I like his solo on "Murrow" a lot too even though he ripped off "So Afraid"!!! but, he can do that i guess.
BTW...the DVD IS in widescreen. The notes on the back say 4:3 but it looks to be in 1:85/1.

I couldn't believe how good "I am Waiting" was I thought it was fantastic. Also Murrow was brilliant too. The part where all 3 guys started singing at the same time but different words was class. And i've said it once and i'll say it again thats the best version of GYOW. i love it.
I got my DVD delivered from America to Ireland and it arrived on the 7th which was bang on target. Watched it about 3 times so far.
Lindsey would hardly do a UK & Ireland tour would he?
mylittledemon
11-12-2005, 02:17 PM
Because it was aired on tv. That would be the main reason. If you already have it on tape and only are getting it for the extras, it's quite the difficult decision. Not having money just adds to the struggle.
Well not only that, but if you have it on "tape" then you aren't getting a quality version of it. The DVD is in widescreen, it was also shot in high definition, AND the audio is in 5.1 on the DVD. So with the VHS, you're not getting any of those perks either, not to mention the other tracks. And besides, the DVD is only $17 at Best Buy.

Damn. I hate it when they do that. As long as, for example, they haven't noticably added a different version of Big Love over the version he played then i'll be happy.
I hate how they over dubbed Tusk on the boston DVD with the version from the Dance and you can hear christine singing. I understand it when they make slight alterations but when they do somethign as noticable as that it annoys me slightly.

Mine came in yesterday... I bought from Amazon, took 6 days for delivery.. I thought that was pretty good.
I think it looks and sounds pretty smashing! But I think it was totally tinkered with audio wise. Lindsey is an okay singer, but he's not this good! But that's okay, its coming from Lindsey so I expected it to be prettied up. And It could have been a little longer. But hey, I'm not really going to complain about it... It's his first dvd if you can believe that - so I'll take it.

I got mine a few days ago at Borders for $19.99....didn't even think to check at places like Best Buy to get it cheaper. Overall I do like it- I will take whatever Lindsey I can get and the packaging is great :) . Some of the songs, I think, didn't work the best in the pared-down setting (Peacekeeper) and I still like the original GOS versions of SGCYM and Down on Rodeo better, but it is still great to have these songs on DVD. GYOW sounds so different, it was cool not hearing the same old thing.
I also LOVE how into it the crowd is- you can tell these are mostly die-hard Lindsey fans, they go crazy when he announces Red Rover! Go Insane sounds quite different to me than the Dance version, and its great.
So, overall, a very worthwhile purchase!

Got mine at Best Buy for 17.99 +tax on the day of release. Since then the one in Birmingham has re-stocked it, so it's probably a part of the regualr stock now at most stores
VERY good transfer that looks gorgeous on HDTVs (in anamorphic widescreen, no less, for those who care about that sort of thing, and I do!). The 5.1 sound is enveloping and not gimmicky.
Terrific DVD, and a prize to own.
