Has anyone checked this out yet? http://earth.google.com/

I know we live in a hi-tech world, but this amazed me. I went to the directions tab and just typed in my city and state only, for both the start and end directions, and it zoomed straight to my house without my physical address. It's a nifty satellite imagery site. You have to download the free version. Just thought I'd share.

I know, when i saw that I resigned myself to the fact that there's probably a camera inside my house, and the technology is probably such that someone living in the farthest reaches of our galaxy could watch.

No wonder I have anxiety issues, there's somebody watching me all the time!

OnStar is another one. My husband has locked himself out of his truck 3 or 4 times and had to call them to unlock it. One time it was parked under a tree so they couldn't get it. But thats another thing that makes me shake my head in amazement.

Well, I guess I can't say that when I know good and well that I downloaded that thing and then looked up where various objects of my desire live. It's nice to see someone's house when you have a thing for her...of course you'll never be there but oh well. See, it's still harmless because it's not like I would ever actually go to those places!

Time for me to shut up.

You might need to elaborate on this. You gave it your city and it gave you your house?

Very small city...

yeah, too bad the GOOGLE data is over 3 years old....there is a half built high rise where I currently live.... and my cars are in the driveway of my old home....

There are MUCH better satellites that you can link into online that give VERY current data, two days old, and if you are very computer savy you can link into real time sat data. Very nice to check and see if a strange car is in your driveway and the occupant is probably inside boinking your wife while you are at work.... But with real time data, it is all a matter of timing. There are two kinds of sats...geostationary (stays in one spot all the time) and polar-orbiting (rotates around the earth at varing degrees very quickly scanning the entire earth surface)...ummm....too much info....sorry....

You might need to elaborate on this. You gave it your city and it gave you your house?I just realized how unclear that was. It's almost like something I said. But I've found that if a town is very small and you are already familiar with it, you can find someone's house without having to put in the actual address. Again, too much information, I'm sure.

Yes, I do live in a small town. 800 or so people. But it still went to my house only.

My dad figured out it they were old images also. I sent him a photo of the house he moved from last year, and he wrote back and pointed out that the shed we put up a couple of years ago, and the deck on the side of the house were not there. When I put in my address, I don't get very clear images. Everything is a blurry greenish color.

I wish I had a clearer view of my current home. On google earth, our nighborhood is only half done. It's finished now, and has been for a while. But it's fun to poke around anyhow....
