This Christine forum should be hopping a lot more regularly. Don't you Chris fans have anything more to talk about? Get going! If I had a whip, I'd use it . . .

I hear she played a Moog of stage for its lighter sound :wavey:

Seriously, let's go through what she played and when. Also, what percussion she played.

Did she ever play a Bosendorfer on stage?

I liked when she played that percussion thing during "Second Hand News" on the Rumours tour.

By the way, isn't everyone relieved that we don't ever have to worry about Christine McVie trying to sell something in a grocery store?

Aw, I could've been listening to that too, since I spotted "Mystery To Me" at the mall, but opted to buy Stevie's "Wild Heart" instead. Next time, though... that was there, along with Bare Trees. As I stood in the store, checking out the FM albums, I was trying to figure out which one had more Christine songs on it, since I only had enough money for one CD.

I know! I had Mystery to Me all ready to bring up to the cash register, when I decided to check out their Stevie selection. Usually all they have is Timespace and BellaDonna, so I didn't expect to find anything.

The Wild Heart is kinda... bah.... I'm not wild (ha ha) about it. Except for the title track, Stand Back, Nightbird and Sable on Blonde, the rest of the album didn't really grab me.

Don't worry, I've at least heard the songs. I'm not that bad.

Yep, just checked my email-- Got Jewel Eyed Judy, thanks! *goes off to listen*

PS: If it makes you feel any better, I would've gotten all THREE of those albums, if I'd had more money on me!

Aw, TWH is my fave Stevie album. It wasn't always my fave, but it grew on me. Of course I have this damn username that I'm sick of at this point. There's a really gay story behind that, which I told one day in August here (http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showpost.php?p=398829&postcount=26) when I left my inhibitions somewhere else. So, it's special to me but then I can kind of see why some find it generally boring. I totally agree with the ones you mentioned, though "Sable on Blond" had to grow on me. It's now one of my favorites of all of her works. "Nothing Ever Changes" really grew on me, too.

I definitely understand not buying all of it at once; I didn't either, though I've been very tempted to. (And I'm still working on it). Just let me know if you ever want me to e-mail you anything else. :)

Interesting story. I don't find it boring at all! I can relate, somewhat, in the sense that I've liked people (okay, girls), who don't see me 'in that way'. I'm going through that right now, actually. Luckily, this close friend of mine likes to er, joke around sexually? and tries to seduce me every so often. Among other things. LOL. She says it's all in fun, and I believe her, since she's crazy about men. But she does admit to people like Christine, and Stevie and Cyndi being hot. Which makes me smile.

It lacks the visionary excitement of Heroes Are Hard To Find, the roots music realism of Dog & Dustbin, & the miniaturist multifacetedness in tracking of Rumours.

A lot of you are letting your nostalgia run away with you -- or maybe it's more of a nostalgie de la boue.

The truly epic "Keep On Going" is mostly what gives MTM its B-12.

I think you're becoming a curmudgeon in your old age, David. MTM is the best album Fleetwood Mac has ever released. That said, it is incomparable to ANY other Fleetwood Mac album due to its strength from track to track...no other Fleetwood Mac album can even come CLOSE to claiming that. There is NO weak link on MTM. Even their cover tune has been revamp to become a Fleetwood Mac song. Can't say that about ANY other cover that Fleetwood Mac has recorded...(well, maybe "Blue Letter")

Yeah, well, if Yamaha wants to give me a free grand piano, I'll go to the ends of the Earth proclaiming their greatness. Hell, I'll even get Yamaha tattoos! You guys are all being perverse & contrarian. Yamahas have outstanding reputations, not because they copy Steinway (?) or because they accept endorsements in exchange for product or because they might be assembled in Korea or Timbuktu or because they have extra octaves at both ends (?), but because they are traditionally outstanding pianos. They are & have been in use in recording studios & on stages throughout the world for decades.

Christine has stuck with Yamaha all these years because she LIKES THEM.

I'm not familiar with Yamaha's alleged recent deterioration vis-a-vis the Korea production facilities, but every piano sooner or later goes through some less than stellar times: it happened to Steinway in the early 1980s with CBS & New York. Steinways took a dive in quality. During my summers at Idyllwild School of Music & the Arts through the USC Department of Music, I remember hearing my teachers complain about the then-recent problems with Steinway.

Even Rolls-Royce suffered during her affiliation with BMW. We live in an era of corporate dillydallying & takeovers. You may never really know where your car or your piano or your pacemaker is assembled.

Besides, pianos are all so individual. I have played crappy-feeling & crappy-sounding Steinways, Yamahas & others, but I have also played awesome Steins & Yams. You can run into a bad piano if it hasn't been taken care of, but you can't automatically paint the whole brand black -- even if a particular model doesn't suit your personal preferences. I grew up playing a Yamaha baby grand & it was great then & my sister still has it & it still feels great & sounds darn good.

I think that Christine only has the one Yamaha 7' grand from Songbird & touring homage.

In her house, that is. Her studio/barn may be another story.

I actually wonder if she's kept her portablized B3. It is not shown in the videos on her website, but her Yamaha KX-88 controller is. Of course, we still have no idea what she's using for patches, as the KX-88 is just that, a controller with no onboard sounds.

Now, as for rating pianos.. I've played many types. They are very different, though all pianos are different.

Steinway is your all around piano. It embodies what most pianos are. I've played a Bosendorfer once, for a concert this past spring. It had a dark rich tone that was very pleasing and interesting. And let me tell you, there isn't much use for the extra keys at the bottom. I tried to throw them in on something, but it was jazz and and the music we were playing wouldn't get much use of them.

Yamahas tend to have a brighter sound, which makes them more ideal for playing onstage.

Kawai pianos (especially uprights) are utter crap. We have a contract at my college and get a dozen new ones every two years. The new ones came this semester and they're just as bad as the ones from last year, except they haven't broken down yet. We have two Kawai grands-a 7' and a baby grand. They are decent, but not superb. Unfortunately, our 9' Steinway rarely gets taken out. :(

So yes, I can understand why she might like them, but then again, she's been using their products for years, so it makes sense.

I have an interview where she says exactly that.

By the way, Alexbt or anyone who's a keyboard expert, someone asked a question about her In The Meantime keyboards on the message board on Christine's website. No one has answered the question. I don't think any keyboards gurus check her board.
