Talking about stupid drivers in the other thread made me start thinking. Am I the only one annoyed with people & their phones? We never used to be able to be reached at all times in all places before & it wasn't a problem before. Why do people feel the need to constantly be talking to someone?
I don't mean when people are on it for work purposes, or if they're waiting for big news (someone's dead, you're waiting to hear from the bank about your loan, etc.) I mean the people you see at the grocery store on the phone & you hear them say "Hey, what are you doing? Nothing. Nope. Here at the store. Oh, really? Yeah I think I'll make chicken for dinner tonight. What are you going to do?" AAAARRRGGGHHH! Do your shopping & shut the f*ck up! Please! OR, even better, when you hear people's personal business & they either don't notice or don't care. "Yeah, so Aunt Joan is in the hospital. Vaginal bleeding. Yeah, they don't know what to do, she'll be at St. Joe's, she's in room 345. You wanna call her? it's 555-9876" UGH.
Do you know that when I call patients into my room for an appointment they actually walk in on the phone? And I have to sit there & glare at them until they get off the phone? I can't take the rudeness anymore.
I have a cell, very few people have my number. If it rings, I literally get confused & say "who the hell is calling me?" I never use it when driving, I find that I can't devote my full attention to driving OR the conversation. I don't walk around stores on it & I rarely use it at a restaurant (if I do, it's very quick to make plans for later that evening.)
So. Are you a user? Abuser? Never user?

So. Are you a user? Abuser? Never user?I work at a gas station and people always come in yakking on their phones. one time, this guy was blabbing while he was standing in front of me. There were people behind him in line, and when I asked him how I could help him, he gave me this look and said "Can't you see I'm on the phone?" WHat an thoughtless prick that guy was.

I don't have a cell phone, don't need one. I work at home and I hate phones anyways. When the phone rings, I go into huffy mode. I'm like "Who the frick is it and what do they want, do I HAVE to get up?"
"Vaginal bleeding." cracked my sh*t up!!
Well, I have a cell phone that I used in England (pay as you go), but that was for communication only purposes...not chit chat purposes. Plus, it was cheaper than calling from the hotel phone.

Hehe, I'm EXACTLY the same. Really I wish we could go back to the days when no one had a phone. I admit it has come in useful at times, but honestly I managed for years without one. When I come home from work in the evening it seems like everyone is on their phone on the train having the longest loudest conversation. Thank the lord for my iPod that's all I can say.
Drivers using them are the worst. I bet all they're saying is "I'm in the car! I'm coming home."I really need to get into that whole I-pod thing. I guess I'm just behind the times huh?

I'd say I use the phone way too much while driving, but I do try to keep conversations short.

You are my twin. It pisses me off, when I come home, and the machine is blinking. I usually say, "who the f*ck are you, and what the f*ck do you want?"
I do have a cell phone. Nobody has the number though. It's for MY convenience only, not my bosses. BTW, Virgin Mobile pay-as-you-go is the way to go. $5/month!

Hi ~ I'm Catherine and I am a cell phone abuser. Seriously, I don’t' know if I have always had the potential. My first baby picture I am holding a telephone. Talk talk talk ~ but I am trying to cut WAY back. I used 1000 minutes in August. My bill was over the moon. So, I am trying to not make outgoing calls but it's hard. My girlfriends live in Oklahoma and I am in Texas and the best time for us to talk is after work on the drive home. I live an hour from work. Once I walk in the door I have too cook dinner for husband and two teenagers. Deal with the teenagers issues; homework and their daily drama. By the time I clean up, watch a show or two with my husband and take a shower it's time for bed. My husband takes 15 hours of college so our time is limited so we chat on the cell phone any chance we get. Crazy I know. :distress: :sorry:

Not sure about NYC, but it is illegal here (is it a state or county law? can't recall.) Doesn't stop anyone though.

I'm a complete cell phone abuser at my house because we don't have long distance, so my dad and I use our cell phones for everything. I try not to use it when I'm out, just because I feel uncomfortable talking in front of strangers. Now, if there's a texting abuser, I'm so in that club too. I've gone about 30 over my 300 outgoing messages this month *so far*, thank god incoming is free:woohoo:

Yes, oh twin o' mine. Email is the greatest thing EVER invented. SHORT and sweet. One sentence replies.
I have this old friend, who calls a couple times a week. He will go ON AND ON, for TWO hours!!!!! He's turned me into a complete call screener(I'm too cheap to pay for caller ID). Do you know what REALLY pisses me off at him? I've told him, REPEATEDLY, that Mon eve is THEEEEE night that I like to watch TV. MY shows are on, so please don't call on Monday. So what does he do, you ask? He calls EVERY Monday, because he knows I'm home. He'll call at 8pm, and talk til 10, WHEN MY SHOWS ARE OVER!!!!!!   Now, what part of "MY F*CKING SHOWS ARE ON MONDAY", does he not understand??? Can he not see how RUDE it is to call, on the evening I've asked him not to.
I've told him I dream of a day when I can afford to NOT have a phone.
BTW, about once a month, I'll get to feeling so guilty about screening his last 12 calls, that I'll give in and listen. (or pretend to!   )

I'm the same way, I'm not a phone person. Plus, I usually have to get up to get it! But I'm thinking of becoming one because no one calls me. Gee, I wonder why? Although my friend Charlie did last nite. He recently moved to AZ and I never see him so that was nice.
Regarding the cell phone, sometimes I will talk while driving, but not in the city. If something is happening I will drop the phone to drive as opposed to being a menace on the road. I really limit the amount of time I use the phone in the car though because I know it is dangerous.
Paula, its funny you mentioned this because its been bugging me lately too. People's IQs go down 50 points when they are on their cell. Walking to and from work I always encounter people on their phones. Sometimes they cannot walk and talk and nearly walk into me. I often hear banal conversations as noted above. I wonder why people can't make it home without just babbling on the phone. Sometimes I make calls while walking but I do not tune out to my surroundings.
I hate hate hate the loud talkers. One morning I'm walking thru the park and right behind me I hear WHAT'S UP MAN? It scared the bejesus out of me. Why wouldn't that person consider how he'd sound to others? He doesn't give a sh*t. No one gives a crap about anyone else anymore. Or so it seems.

I don't talk on my phone in public. I just use it mostly for emergencies and so that the school can get in touch with me just in case. I won't go into the gas station talking on it or anything. And sure enough, I have to go... my cell phone is ringing.

All I hear, here in Oakland, and the city, is people talking loudly on their cell phones. Often times they are also cussing, or discussing something totally inappropriate. Loudly. And of course I'm "out" more than other people (ie, I don't have a car) so I hear it even more. Like so many other things, it disgusts me.
And when I got my home phone turned on recently, these people started calling me right away, and I was supposed to call them back, even if I didn't want to talk to them, and all other kinds of madness. It actually gave me a bit of anxiety. My phone is in my room, which sucks, cause I can hear it when I'm sleeping. It plays Edge, but still - Edge is a bit jarring when you are sleeping.
I've also noticed a lot of people about to run me over while talking on cell phones. I've decided to start carrying rocks with me on my bike or blades to throw at cars who don't stop behind the line. It's the least I can do.
Anyhoo....
no, I don't have a cell phone, in case you couldn't tell. :D

That is so funny! Sounds like me. Actually its a standing joke with me. When I'm with my husband and my son and my phone rings, not only am I startled but they look at each other and say "who the f**k would be calling you  since their about the only two that have my number. Usually it turns out to be a wrong number!

I'm trying to figure a way to have my iPod permanently attached to my body.
As for cell phones...I hate the phone in general, but need it for biz purposes. Funny people get all worked up about these cell phones. I think it's ok to use it while driving, as long as you're not holding it...but using a ear piece. **** man, people talk. What's the difference if they are talking on the phone (with headset) as opposed to having someone in the passenger seat that they're chatting up a storm with? Same goes for people on a train, bus, whatever. Who cares?? Talking on the phone or talking to someone your with in person is really no different.
However it is very rude to be on the phone while conducting transactions or dealing with people other than the one on the phone.

^ I don't really have an issue with people who use headsets, it's the dolts who are holding the phone while trying to drive. In my experience lately, when I see someone driving poorly (swerving, not using turn signals, slamming on brakes for no apparent reason, sitting at green lights for a long time, unsafe lane changes, etc) 9 times out of 10 they're on their phone.

but if I see one more retard walking around Wal-Mart with a headpiece I'm going to scream. I see people all the time walking downtown with that damn headpiece, but they are holding the freaking phone - now what sense does that make? if you are driving, great, good, use the headset, but otherwise, come on people, just hold the phone you lazy bum
