View Full Version : Something curious about the Nicksfix

Has the Nicksfix ever had a forum, and if not- why? I know they have a chat room (I went in there out of curiosity one day and was appalled), but no forum. Just curious.

I think you just answered your own question....if the chat room "appalled" you, imagine what a forum would do.
No, I don't believe the NicksFix has ever had a forum - and honestly, I'm not sure why...maybe bandwidth issues? I don't know...have you tried emailing John to ask him?

Nah, it's just something I thought about on the way to work this morning. Some artists I have been into (Beth Hart, for example) have a forum on their official websites. Not that I would expect Stevie to post on it (as some do).

If any of you are familiar with Amber (Sexual, This Is Your Night) she has a forum on her official site and posts every single day, gives fans updates, answers questions, etc. It is really, really impressive. I will say, tho, that after reading her posts, I don't tend to agree with her comments; so I wonder if it could be a bad thing...

I used to go into their chatroom all the time, but all the trolls that came in there ruined it and John had to make everyone have a password and stuff to get in there, so I think that drove some people away. Too bad, because at one time I enjoyed going in there.:distress:

John's a really good guy. I want the Nicks Fix to succeed, but it seems not many people are going there these days.:distress:

When I first came online (I was a very late bloomer in the online world), the Nicksfix was my ONLY source of information regarding Stevie.

John's a really good guy. I want the Nicks Fix to succeed, but it seems not many people are going there these days.:distress:Think about what generates return visits to a Web site -- especially return visits every day of the week, 52 weeks a year.
Then think about whether the Nicks Fix has anything to offer anyone on a 365-day-a-year basis.
You go to the Nicks Fix, you read the various pages within the site, & you're finished before long. Very few of those features are revised or updated on a frequent basis -- that isn't the design or point of that site. The point of John's site is to officially announce things like tourdates & albums, & that isn't the sort of thing that occurs every day of the year, or even every month. Think of the Ledge here: with dozens of people posting every hour of every day -- literally -- there is always something new to read, & hence people return-visit to the Ledge (& by extension the Penguin) extremely frequently.
The Nicks Fix has no such feature or attraction. Once you've read the fan reviews & looked at the photos, you're good for months. Why go back the next day, & the day after that, & the day after that? To do what?

yeah, i went to the chatroom once. there i met a lovely troll by the name of 4NICK8 (sound it out) and left quite quickly. shame. it's a good place for newbie fans to wet their feet, and then leave immediately in search of something better. ps why does he recycle the weekly pic so often? hello, there are thirty+ years' worth out there.

I know, what is up with that? The Nicks Fix needs a major overhaul! The home page needs a new design. Some of the beautiful banners and stuff I see on here or on fan websites far surpass the Nicks Fix.

The think the killer for the nicks fix is its domain name. If you want an artist, you usually type www.artists name.com
www.lindseybuckingham.com
www.fleetwoodmac.com
www.davematthewsband.com
www.thebeatles.com
For stevie's official website to not be www.stevienicks.com sort of puts it out of the way. Nicks Fix takes some googling. Even if the site looks like it was designed by a fifth grader in a computer class, a straightforward domain name would get more people to come to the site.

I pretty much 100% agree with all of what you just said - except -
. . . Isn't it time for some new pictures??? Especially some more-
recent hi-res ones? And - photographer "back in the day?"
C'mon, you can't tell me those are the only photos that were taken. . . .
Time 'ta dig through the old file cabinets, John!

But in all honesty, I'd like to be able to get Stevie-suff from her website: T-shirts, tour books, etc...import cd's, even. There could be a lot more done with it (even tho I love it, and visit regularly).

A FREAKIN MEN - I would love to do that too. I really really really want that website to be better and have more Stevie things that we can get...without having to resort to eBay for those crappy iron ons

the possibilities are endless, and fans would go crazy! Maybe Stevie really doesn't know about cyber-stuff, and is therefore missing a golden opportunity b/c of ignorance of the medium

Possibly, but I leave a lot of this responsibility on Stevie. She's well aware, I think, of her internet fans and could at least tell her people to "come up with something" for her fans...well, I don't know how all that works, so I really shouldn't be saying anything, but I just wish someone would light a fire under her ass or Kinney's and get something exciting going...

it's totally hard for me to imagine someone with little to no concept of the internet, when my 73 year old mother get it, but I guess there are people who just aren't interested or are afraid of it. It woud be great to see the "official" site taken to the next level tho :blob1:
