It's a clip of the last few minutes of an exclusive promotional sales pitch for Al Franken's new book, "The Truth (with jokes)," featured at Amazon.com.

The video skit blurs truth and fiction as a psychotic Al Franken kicks a man potraying a conservative reader in the groin, smashes a stool over his back, and grins as another man playing one of Franken's fans cracks a bottle over the conservative's head.

"Ah, that feels great!" Franken gloats.

<img src="http://michellemalkin.com/archives/images/frankenunhinged013.gif">

Al Franken, we know, is an angry, unstable man. He's got temper-control issues. Remember this (http://www.thenationaldebate.com/blog/archives/2005/02/franken_explode_1.html)and this (http://newsmax.com/archives/ic/2004/1/27/94253.shtml)? He didn't have to stretch much for his Amazon.com role. The skit, however, comes across not as self-effacing or satirical, but creepily, seriously cathartic.

There is absolutely nothing funny about the clip, though I suppose it is somewhat amusing to imagine Franken's obsequious team of overpaid Harvard libs crowded around the set telling their boss what a comic genius he is.

Franken is, of course, baiting us to be outraged. But what you should feel for this man is pathos. The guy needs professional help.

We all know Franken bombed on the Letterman Show last week as he attempted to deflect questions about Air America's finances and joked about the execution of President Bush and top GOP officials.

Dave Pierre at Newsbusters asks:

Would a Sean Hannity or Bill O'Reilly ever get away with a publicity video like this without an "outrage" in the liberal media?

OF COURSE NOT! Firstly they would never dream of making such a video, and secondly no company in its right mind (or should we say left-mind) would ever host it.

USA TODAY PROFILE ON FRANKEN (http://www.usatoday.com/life/books/news/2005-10-24-franken_x.htm)...does not even mention the amazon.com video.

What if it were reversed and Hannity grew a sense of humour and was beating the crap out of a liberal? Would you find that funny? Of course!

Franken's satire has nothing to do with treason. Use your head.

It cracked me up, too. I just got his new book "The Truth (with Jokes)" and Margaret Cho's new book "I Have Chosen to Stay and Fight" this morning. The cover to Cho's book is a RIOT; she made herself look like Patty Hearst when she robbed the bank with a mock Symbionese Liberation Army symbol behind her.

Firstly...Hannity would never do such a thing! And if he did...I don't think I would laugh at that!

Al Franken can essentially advocate the death of Bush on national TV, and then run a promo for his new "book" "beating" the crap out of a republican...and it is all well! But Ann DARE talk about converting Muslim fanatics to Christianity and she is nuts!

Besides, I don't need Franken's book...I just got this one...

I'm sure his book will be a bestseller. Franken IMO is a more visual comedian, that's why I think his radio show isn't that great. And without Katherine, he is lost.:sorry: I'm sure his slot will probably be given to Thom Hartmann once Al runs (and probably wins) for the senate seat in Minnesota.

I agree. Until Katherine comes back this spring, he's totally up ****s creek. His show is better to watch on the Sundance Channel than it is to actually listen to for the very reason you mentioned. What they should do is put either Mike or Randi in his slot and put him in Mike's current slot.

Then, with all due respect, you're more of an idiot than I had first imagined. You're absolutely incapable of looking at things objectively and that statement proves it. All politics aside, that book is reprehensible, poorly written, and an insult to those who were rounded up and put in internment camps.

I think people often forget there is a difference between Franken and O'Reilly. I don't think there would be outrage if Adam Sandler or someone on SNL did it. It's not very good to compare O'Reilly (who is SUPPOSED to be some kind of journalist I guess! who knew?) and Franken a comedian and writer of political satire.

Yeah, O'Reilly helped Inside Edition win two or, um, three Peabody Awards.

Ann Coulter is pundit who writes with jokes and satire! (A lot more funny that Franken if I do say so myself)...if she had a video on Amazon where she beat the hell out of a liberal with a baseball bat, then she OF COURSE would be unhinged? right?

Yes it is too rich. O'Reilley also came very close to beating up a liberal right on his show. The man who was talking about the Bush administration and criticizing them right after 9/11.

Her book is pretty much all politics. It's HILARIOUS. I've already choked on my own saliva a few times.

And if you can, try to read Anderson's column in the new issue of Details while you're at the grocery store. It's fantastic. An excerpt:

"Every night I interview politicians - proper, polite, plastic smiles, paper promises. They thank each other and say what good jobs they've done. It's hard to listen to when you're covered in **** and you know they're full of ****. "I know people are frustrated," they keep saying, over and over again. If they really knew, they wouldn't use that word. "Frustrated" is standing in a slow moving checkout line. People aren't frustrated. They are dead. They are dying. More and more each day."

Trust me when I say CNN won't put it on their site.

I'll give Franken this...he is funny! Even Ann has admitted that. And of course from that statement the reporter misquoted her saying that she was "friendly" with Al...the reason they probably got confused was because she mentioned Bill Maher in the same sentence...and she actually IS friends with Bill. And of course Franken uses that misquote as one of "lies"...

It really is a sorry book! College liberals do bring that book when Ann speaks and then ask her to sign it!!!! I'm sure Franken wouldn't like that. I remember one guy had on a shirt that said "TRAITOR" and she signed it "Have fun in Guantanamo" ;) GOD I LOVE HER
