Ok, the very popular wristband craze that started with Lance's "live strong"...do you have any? Which do you wear?

I have a "conservative values" wristband.

<img src="http://www.redstatestore.com/cNcgraphics/Product_14_PrSpare2.jpg">

I have "ONE HUMAN FAMILY" (I got from Catholic Relief Services, promoting global solidarity.)

<img src="http://www.crscampusconnection.org/bin/a/x/nu_img-5.gif">

and a Santo Subito! which means "Sainthood Now!" The people shouted this at the funeral mass of the Holy Father, Pope John Paul ll. (The M's on the side stand for The Virgin Mary)

Those are so ugly that I could not possibly ever wear one, especially considering all the fabulous bracelets that I have. To wear one of those is a disgrace to bracelets everywhere, indeed to the whole bracelet concept. And even a disgrace to cool watches, which I have lots of. And it even indirectly insults the beautiful rings I've gone to the trouble of picking out.
It's a travesty.

Why don't I just wear a sign that says: "I have no taste, and I also feel the need to brag about things I pretend to support!" ?

Sesly, just donate your money, and quit using valuable and finite resources to make the ugliest "bracelets" ever known to man or beast.

God, the human race is lame. Those bracelets just cemented that fact for me. We could have used that "ugly bracelet making" money/resources for something much more valuable, or at least more biodegradable. Like food? For someone?

Have we become a people that thinks this is a good idea? A people who actually uses time, effort, and resources to make these ugly, meaningless bracelets?
Cause I missed that memo.
We could have donated all that to...oh, i dunno...anything????

Christ on a Crutch... I shudder at our shortsighted, shallow, moronic banality.

i wear one and i love it. it's a lovely shade of black satin and on the watch face it says Marc Jacobs. it stands for everything i believe in; quality, elegance, and spending power. :wavey:

those rubberbands are hideous. they are the new trucker hat. or the new Uggs. hideous. cheap. disposable. luckily, next year they'll be gone. hopefullly right along with those detestable 'support our troops' 'pray' 'love my patriotism' ribbon magnets on every effing car out there.

if you want to help, put a $5 in an envelope and mail it off to a charitable organization, not to someone's soulless bank account. which is what you do when you buy it in a store.

I own a Livestrong wristband. I never wear it. It was given to me.

As a general rule I don't support medical charities anyway, so even if it wasn't so absolutely horribly hideously ugly (bright yellow... omfg) I still wouldn't wear it.

Nevermind that those stupid things are cheap and prone to breaking.

Retail has jumped on it and now you can buy them with crap written on them. I think the intention was good, they have raised a lot of money for causes and raised the visibility of them. It seems at this point it is over though.

I'll take one rocket launcher please, if that's all right with you, Brown Eyes. That is my right, isn't it?

Plus, the argument that you as an ordinary citizen could right now carry a concealed weapon while walking down the street is assinine because in many cities you would be arrested, and rightfully so IMO. And, it should be this way - I mean can you imagine what the world would be like if everyone carried a hand gun with them at all times. Think of all the idiots who are hot headed. The murder rate would sky rocket.

Also, the text of the Const. states:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

which means a well regulated Militia has the right to keep and bear arms. There is no arguing against that on a grammatical level.

I get that everyone had a gun back then and the thought of not having one was not something probably thought of my The Framers. But, that does not mean the Second Amendment's specific lang. allows every Tom, Dick, and Harry the Const. right to have a gun. Thus, because the right does not exist in the Const., it can be more easily regulated than the "well regulated Militia" lang. in the Second Amendment. Also, even if it were in the Const., limits exist on specific Const. given rights when the use of such rights would cause danger to the public, like free speech - you cannot yell fire, when there is no fire, in a public area because preventing the riot that could happen as a result is worth more than the need for free speechin that instance, which makes sense.

For those interested, here is a link to an analysis of the law surrounding The Second Amendment http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/data/constitution/amendment02/

You'd be hard pressed to find something that irritates me more than those fecking car magnets. I dream of infiltrating a Wal Mart parking lot and systematically ripping them off the asses of ugly cars and SUV's.

dont people know that if you leave those magnets in the same place long enough it will remove the top layers of coating/paint and leave the unprotected underskin of the automobile vulnerable to the elements.

Not only that it discolors the paint as it slowly eats it away.

Ah, the miracle of magnets (Our dumb ass yellow ribbon magnet resides on our freezer where it has since purchase)

As a general rule I don't support medical charities anyway, so even if it wasn't so absolutely horribly hideously ugly (bright yellow... omfg) I still wouldn't wear it.

I used to be the same way, But after having see my loved one battle through hell to survive cancer I help out only a couple of charities for the good karma of it...

Seems to have worked, the good karma (And great insurance coverage that has paid about $600,000 in medical bills) seemed to have worked.

Political beliefs

That's just not true. If you have religious beliefs, I don't see how they could possibly not affect your political beliefs. Maybe you meanty to say politics, period, as in actual policy, in which case I think you're right. But it seems like it sure would cause a lot of cognitive dissonance to have a religious philosophy and a political philosophy and not attempt to reconcile the two.

I hate it when I buy a hilarious T-shirt and get all excited about it and then realize that I can't wear it anywhere. I got this great shirt at a gas station (3 for $10!) that has a big Confederate flag backdrop, with the words "YANKEE GO HOME!" across the front. But how would strangers know that I was just being ironic? Poor just sat in the drawer... At least I got a lot of use out of "I Only Play Bingo On Days That End In Y."

I am in agreement. A bright pink rubberband around my wrist just wouldn't go with my diamond bracelet, or sterling silver cuff. No offense to those who have these bracelets. It just isn't 'me'.

The whole premise of supporting a charity is a nice thought. But, I'd just as soon write a check for a tax deductible donation.
