I'm baaaaaaaaaack - to the joy of some & dismay of others.

I'm not a huge fan of this song. It's alright, but it just doesn't really do it for me. Meh. Average. Bland musically. And I much prefer the "crying in the morning..." verse in Enchanted - actually, I think it fits better lyrically in Destiny, but I HATE the actual way she sings it - sounds almost out of tune to me.

Live? Nothing special until the "crying...in the morning...I am trying to be strong..." harmonies at the end. And then that awesome wail of hers on "WWWEEEEELLLLL I'm heartbrooooooooooken...unspooooooooooken...." So live, it's a little bit better for me. :)

I really like this song, and did the first time I heard it. Actually, it was one of the only songs I liked initially on the CD. I'm not saying Stevie goes to any fabulous vocal heights with it, but I love the tune.

I love it. I think the images she uses are great and the live version was stellar!

"Destiny" is absolutely one of Stevie's five or ten best songs of all time. Everything about it is perfect: the melodic arc of the verses, the musical resolve of the chorus, the transitions, the emotion, the poetry, the performances both studio & live, the mystique surrounding the song.

I'll post the chords later because I think a few of you like to play piano or guitar & sing Stevie songs.

And let's remember that "Enchanted" came AFTER "Destiny." "Enchanted" was just an upbeat rewrite of "Destiny."

the other thing I love about "Destiny" is that it sticks it in the eye of the shippers -- not that I wish that group any real harm but a little stick in the eye here & there ain't no big deal.

I have to agree - when she sings about rolling in the rain and unwinding in the wind, the music and her voice are actually doing that, which enhances the already stunning image she invokes. I LOVED this live - LOVED IT I SAY

As for the shippers - bless their hearts

I concur with the others...this was a great vocal performance on stage.
Stevie shines...the girls stand out...and while it doesn't leave you "in the aisles knocked out", it's still a heartlfelt moment. I like it.

I don't have much to say but I do like this song. I haven't heard the Vegas or Sac versions David mentions but I do love the House of Blues version. I love her voice on it.

Did it really?

Ok, David, back to that illusive Wild Heart Tour Book. If you actually read the page with those newspaper articles in the program, you will find them discussing Stevie's upcoming album 'The Wild Heart,' and it lists Belle Fleur and Destiny as songs from the new album. We all know they did not make the final cut. But they are mentioned. Which of course leads me to believe that they are a part of 'The Wild Heart' sessions. No? Yes? Thoughts?

Did it really? She told her audiences on the 1994 tour that she wrote "Destiny" around 1973. "Enchanted" was written around 1981, in New York.

In fact, there's a studio track -- an outtake or something -- of "Destiny" recorded at a snail's pace, full band, which sounds like a circa 1982/83 Stevie lead vocal. So it may have been done for "The Wild Heart."

To get an idea of the sound of the lead vocal, think of Stevie's voice on "Smiling Islands": quivering, intoxicated (emotionally, not alcoholically), pleading.

yep. read my edit, you will not be disappointed. It's pretty heinous, IMO. It's my third least fave song on....or wait, my fourth least fave, after Rose Garden...on SA.

I loved this song on the Street Angel Tour...it was a perfectly timed fluid break. Every show, in every city !

I find it dreary, weary and sappy.

This song has grown on me over the years. I love it now and much prefer it to Enchanted. I don't think I've heard it live though, but I prefer the SA version to the boxset version.

Easily one of her best vocals to portray the exact emotion of the song. I love this one and cannot fathom why it was not a hit.

Not a fan of the music on Destiny or Enchanted. It's that whole twangy/country sounding thing that turns me off. It's quite bland actually. Nothing exciting about this one. However....I LOVE the lyrics.

"Love don't mean what it says at all
My destiny says that I'm destined to fall"

Stellar Stevie!! *swoon*

The sad thing is the music is so unfitting to me. I think the lyrics should go with more haunting, darker sounding music.

I did like in on the SA tour though but I'm not a fan of the the album versions.

Same here...SA version is better than Enchanted.

It's probably my favourite on Street Angel after Greta, and live was powerful.

Have to agree and say Holmdel was a great performance of it. The Ohio 8-20 show was very good too!

I found this song a few years ago (the live version) on kazaa and thats how I was introduced to it. I fell in love with it. My love for it has decreased over the years, but I still gave it 4 stars.

This is one of the better songs on Street Angel as far as I'm concerned.
