Three hugely influential bands of the 1980s went up against each other in Round 21, but in the end it was Annie and Dave who proved the most popular.
Round 22 is suggested by Jyqm and sees two great pop acts from the 1980s out to prove themselves kings of the Ledgie Face Off!
I'm going to do a few more current Face Offs after this, but I will made sure to include ABC in a future round Josh!
The results so far...
Round 1: Petty defeats Springsteen - 36 to 19
Round 2: Led Zeppelin defeat The Who - 22 to 19
Round 3: Madonna defeats Sheryl Crow/Kate Bush - 24 to 13/10
Round 4: The Beatles defeat Rolling Stones/U2 - 23 to 16/14
Round 5: Guns N Roses defeat Bon Jovi/Metallica - 17 to 13/12
Round 6: Heart defeat Blondie/The Pretenders - 23 to 16/6
Round 7: The Beach Boys defeat The Kinks/The Byrds - 24 to 10/10
Round 8: Johnny Cash defeats Elvis Presley/Roy Orbison - 20 to 19/7
Round 9: Abba defeats The Carpenters - 25 to 15
Round 10: Prince defeats Jimi Hendrix/Lenny Kravitz - 24 to 15/3
Round 11: No Doubt defeat Garbage/Hole - 27 to 11/9

Love them both, but love DD more. They are STILL hot and STILL make great music today. Oh, and Curt from TFF is STILL cute. :)

Difficult, but I'd rather go with Duran Duran. They have more songs that I like

I love Duran Duran.:blob2:

I'm still waiting for The Cure vs. The Smiths, but I'm excited about this one, too! Although actually, I'm not a huge fan of either band; I just thought it would be a fun face-off. Tears for Fears just carry more weight for me, though. I don't know that Duran Duran ever captured the beautiful pop angst of something like "Everybody Wants To Rule The World."
What's in store for "more current" face-offs, Sharon? ...Arcade Fire? I don't even care if they lose, as long as I get to sing their praises a little bit... Wilco? Ted Leo? Jay-Z vs. Kanye? Anybody but Rob Thomas... ?

Tears For Fears here. saw them back last November here in Minneapolis and they were great!!
I'd love to include Wilco, but alas I think there's not enough support for them here on this board, Wilco are one of my favourite bands.
Having lived and gone to school in the Chicago area for four years, it never quite sinks into my brain that Wilco aren't necessarily a household name everywhere in the world. But regardless of whether or not they'd have tons of support here, throw 'em in somewhere! As with Arcade Fire, I don't care if they win as long as maybe somebody reads our fawning posts and decides to check them out...
Edit: Sharon, are you going to Jeff Tweedy's solo show in London next month? Part of me is very tempted to make the trip... (not that Jeff would be the only reason I'd head to Britain, but he certainly helps as far as choosing a weekend).
I'm going to do 90s chick singers tomorrow, you might not like it though, so be warned! They are acts who have all been mentioned a lot on these boards. I probably do a rap Face Off though, those are good suggestions. I may throw Eminem into the mix for that one.
The Cure vs The Smiths is still to come. As is the grunge Face Off (sorry Amber!) just for Gerald.
Actually, I'm bracing myself not to like most of the "more current" artists who might come up, but that's all right, this certainly isn't all about my tastes.
But go ahead and do a four-headed rap battle and throw Dre in there too...

Duran. Way more catchy, upbeat, and, well, just pretty kick ass. Plus, the videos. Oh, the videos!!!!

Duran Duran
They were the 80s.
I've never seen Tweedy solo before, only with a full band.
It's a very different experience, obviously, but still a lot of fun, and often quite moving. Plus, he tends to bring out the rarities.

Duran Duran, they were awesome live this past year. I still listen to their songs but Tears for Fears not so much. Actually not at all. Plus DD was popular when I was 12 so I was too young to really think they were cheesy, at least in my heart. :sigh:

Tears for Fears. Hands down. Duran Duran was schlock.
Dont believe me? Go get the last TFF album called "Everybody Loves a Happy Ending." One of the best, underrated albums to come out recently. And i wasn't even a "fan" of them persay.

I've never appreciated much Duran Duran, and I can't say I was impressed when I recently heard them live (except for a very nice version of Save a prayer), so I went with Tears For Fears, who at least wrote better arrangements, IMO.

I like both bands, but I chose Tears for Fears.
Although I can only think of three of their songs off the top of my head ("Shout" "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" and "Sewing the Seeds of Love") I've loved all three songs since I first heard them.
Duran Duran on the other hand, while I like songs like "Hungry Like the Wolf" and more recently "Electric Barbarella" (they also did a great job of Led Zeppelin's "Thank You" on the With Honors Soundtrack) I absolutely hate "Girls on Film," "Wild Boys" and "Rio."

Both bands went worse after their two first albums (even though they did have some good moments after those); went with TFF because the darker edge in their best music appeals to me more.
