October 5th, by an overwhelming vote of 90-9, the Senate passed strict provisions as part of the Defense Appropriations Bill that would take the current military regulations against torture and turn them into law. Nine Republican Senators voted against the anti-torture provisions, and President Bush has threatened to veto the Defense Appropriation Bill unless the provisions are dropped.

Of course, Bush is aware how this would look to the public so he is trying to bury this law in the house and have them secretly take it out.

IT IS interesting that the only 9 senators who voted against it, were Republicans--and a Republican President is against anti torture law...WOW

WHY AM I SURPRISED??

Yes it is pretty scary that these people no longer surprise us. I will add that only 9 Republicans voted against this, therefore I should say not all are pro-torture.

I do actually flip channels when I see that head because I don't want him to ruin my mood :p

Unless it's an item about his falling rates or something similar.

Some of the other Republicans would have voted for it as well. as sick as it is,but they are like rats deserting the sinking ship that is the Bush administration .What continues to apall me is that so many Americans were so stupid and for so long when it comes to Smirky and his always transparent vileness.

Wow, that's exactly what apalls me, too. The fact that....uh...no one could tell before??? It's absurd! It's totally fit for an alternate weird fascist universe.
It totally destroyed my faith in the non-moronicism of American people. It just makes me think "what the hell convinced all of them in the first place? Can I bottle it? Is the lack of educational funding really working that well?!? Guess so. "
That's what I thought. :)

I know -The doublespeak is right out of an Orwell book, and I keep wondering, "Doesn't anyone else remember 1984 from Junior High School English?"
Also, at times, during this administration I have felt as if we were in the fable, "The Emperors New Clothes".
What was covert activity under other presidents just goes on in front of everyone now.
