Well. What are they?
it was the only song on that tour that she ad-libbed and it actually sounded "good"... i hated, for example, what she did to "I Can't Wait" and "Stand Back"... but "How Still" was perfection... and of course the "Go On, get out" part was superb... from all of the RAL shows i have heard and actually payed attention to, the Weedsport show was one of the best.............

I don't even think Weedsport is the best How Still from that tour, Curtis.

"In the still, in the still, in the still, in the still, in the still, in the still, in the still, in the still... ONE MORE TIME, baby!" That always cracks me up. But it's so in-the-moment, I love it. :p

Great topic Curtis! You know I fell in love with this song only after hearing it on boots, not on the album. There are so many I wouldn't know where to start. I guess my first would be HBO uncut where she says "This is my favorite song, it's called In the Still of the Night" *swoon*
Next favorite Las Vegas Saturday 5-14-05 because it was my first Stevie solo show and I ran up to the stage and was basically looking up her nose and this was a complete surprise to me she was doing this song. One of the best moments of my life!! (not to mention how she sexed it up ooh yeah).
HSML is her sexiest song ever and probably a top 5 live song.

The Vegas versions sucked royally to me. Why, you ask? Because they were anti-climactic. She'd get to the bridge and sing "My lonely..."
Um, you're lonely what, Stevie? "My lonely OOOOOOOOOOOONNNE!"

Agreed. I love the song but without that, it really didn't do much for me.
Same with Fall From grace, the whole song builds to the end then she goes low on that note. Yuck. Glad she included the song from TISL but, it was sort of a let down.

Two 'How Still My Love' performances come to mind instantly for me- i think my favorite was a 1994 'Street Angel' show near Boston, Mass at a place that used to be called Great Woods- the atmosphere was very intense, i was in the 5th row, and on the last 'this is me talking to you' the entire stage and all lights everwhere went completely dark and her voice just pierced into the night... that one song really made the whole concert for me.
The other 'How Still' most memorable for me is the 1983 US Festival; out in the desert somewhere in California. It was vividly mesmerizing to watch and listen to her do this song , which I wasn't expecting to hear. i think it holds up very well on the US Festival tapes, yet to see and hear it during a time when she was at a career zenith was quite extraordinary. That night she also did a fantastic 'Angel' and in those days it was really something to see Stevie live, because her live performances (for me) always far surpassed her studio recordings and there were quite a lot of surprising' i never thought she'd sing that song, but she did!' moments, that disappeared sometime right after 'Rock A Little'.....

I love love love this tune live. Now I really want to go through my boots & decide which one is best!
As far as Vegas in May - I know what Diss means about being anticlimactic on the bootleg. But live? On Wed 5-11 it was fan-f*cking-tastic. There was a really sexy vibe going through the place that just doesn't come across on video/audio recordings.

Definitely didn't catch this vibe. Out of all 4 vegas shows Ive seen on DVD id have to say this show is the worst. :sorry:
I thought sorcerer and HSML were really sexy from the last night but not Wed. night.

Vocally, the 8-6 HSML is fantastic. She had more oohs and ahhhs and ad libs than from what I heard in May. Watching though, is whoreanus. Seeing her give her sound guy the evil eye and gestures kinda ruined the sexiness of the song. That, and we rushed the stage right in the middle. Stupid ushers.

I agree the adlibs were better than the Vegas shows but she went low on all the vocals once she had trouble with the ear.

Yes I think Tuesday she was better vocally. She really didn't kick in until Beauty and the Beast.

I remember telling Brittany, "She's screwed." Then everyone rushed the stage, and I don't remember anything else of that song until I watched it back on the DVD. Definately my least favorite.

For real. You can see Jason and I taking one hand of hers each and pulling her back into the audience. You can't see the rest of our bodies until later, but you can see our arms and hands grab her.
A great Edge, though. A really really really good Edge.

S'okay, no worries. To each his/her own - plus bootlegs almost never do a show justice, IMO. From someone who was there, Tuesday she was a bit reserved & tentative, then hit B&TB out of the park. Wednesday she was spot on for the entire show but B&TB wasn't quite as amazing as it had been on Tuesday (of course, that may have been due to people screaming during the song. ) I didn't attend Fri or Sat, but I hear Sat was the best of the 4 May shows.
Carry on.

I agree. It is a lot different when you actually there. I was so impressed with her when I saw her in mansfield this year, then I listened to the bootleg and it didn't seem as good.

yeah it was really good vocally but she looked so tired. She must have been combined with the problems with her dad. Which makes Saturday 5-14-05 the best edge of 17 ever. :D

Red Rocks is my favorite Edge. It was the best crowd I have ever been a part of. They were freaking off the wall the whole time. Wall to wall (or should I say rock to rock) people.
....and I'm partial cuz she touched my face. :D

I still have to watch that DVD. I skipped it because I remember she was having problems with her voice that night. Although a few people did say that Edge of Seventeen was off the hook. I need to watch it. It must have taken her longer to shake everyones hands right because that stage is massive?

Watching it back, it's not as bad as I thought it was. There were rough spots (FFG, OTR)...but some damn good vocals (EO17, HAEWAFY. Dreams)....and yes, watch Edge.....it's crazy!@# The crowd even cheers throughout the drum solo....seriously, they were wild.

I love the Red Rocks show. The crowd is so into it and so is Stevie. She smiles a lot and is very energetic. :)
Oh and I love the Weedsport show too. RAL shows are cool because of all the ad libing IMO.
I am not a fan of the recent How Stills. To blah. The older versions are so much better. Stevie really gets into it. It's a really sexy song.
