President George W. Bush told Palestinian ministers that God had told him to invade Afghanistan and Iraq - and create a Palestinian State, a new BBC series reveals.

In Elusive Peace: Israel and the Arabs, a major three-part series on BBC TWO (at 9.00pm on Monday 10, Monday 17 and Monday 24 October), Abu Mazen, Palestinian Prime Minister, and Nabil Shaath, his Foreign Minister, describe their first meeting with President Bush in June 2003.

Nabil Shaath says: "President Bush said to all of us: 'I'm driven with a mission from God. God would tell me, "George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan." And I did, and then God would tell me, "George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq …" And I did. And now, again, I feel God's words coming to me, "Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East." And by God I'm gonna do it.'"

Abu Mazen was at the same meeting and recounts how President Bush told him: "I have a moral and religious obligation. So I will get you a Palestinian state."

The series charts the attempts to bring peace to the Middle East, from Bill Clinton's peace talks in 1999/2000 to Israel's withdrawal from Gaza last August.

Norma Percy, series producer of The 50 Years War (1998) returns, with producers Mark Anderson and Dan Edge, to tell the inside story of another seven years of crisis.

Presidents and Prime Ministers, their generals and ministers tell what happened behind closed doors as peace talks failed and the intifada exploded.

He told Mahmoud Abbas the same thing.

"God told me to strike at Al Qaeda and I struck them, and then he instructed me to strike at Saddam, which I did, and now I'm determined to solve the problem in the Middle East. If you help me I will act, and if not, the elections will come and I will have to focus on them."

So the Jews can return to Zion and Christ can come again, which I have always asserted is why the conservative Christian right aligns with the Jews, whom they hate, regarding America's involvment in the Middle East.

That pretty much sums it up.

This is the most INANE thing. The reporters that were there IN THE ROOM have denied that the statements were EVER made.

Spineless movement and a wild attack
Face to face, sightless solitude
And it’s finger popping

Road Map in the Back Seat?

By Al Kamen

Friday, June 27, 2003; Page A27

Imagine our surprise Wednesday to read in the Israeli paper Haaretz (online), that Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Abu Mazen, meeting recently with militants to enlist their support for a truce with Israel, said that, when they met in Aqaba, President Bush had told him this: " God told me to strike at al Qaeda and I struck them, and then he instructed me to strike at Saddam [ Hussein], which I did, and now I am determined to solve the problem in the Middle East. If you help me I will act, and if not, the elections will come and I will have to focus on them."

So who needs to find WMD or a link with al Qaeda when the orders come from The Highest Authority?

Two calls to the White House for clarification went unreturned, but colleague Glenn Kessler did some digging. The Haaretz reporter, Arnon Regular, read what the paper said were minutes of the Palestinians' meeting to Kessler and another colleague, who is an Arabic speaker.

The Arabic-speaking colleague's translation, was this: "God inspired me to hit al Qaeda, and so I hit it. And I had the inspiration to hit Saddam, and so I hit him. Now I am determined to solve the Middle East problem if you help. Otherwise the elections will come and I will be wrapped up with them."

Even then, there's uncertainty. After all, this is Abu Mazen's account in Arabic of what Bush said in English, written down by a note-taker in Arabic, then back into English.

Has anyone seen "The Rapture" with Mimi Rogers? This thread reminds me of it. What a trippy, utterly disturbing movie. Good message, though.

A couple of times. Spooky.
For me, a surprise ending, for fundamentalists, predictable.

Fascinating. A lot of that math stuff is a stretch, but the Skull and Bones info is pretty common knowledge. I read every word.

What have I got to do with it ?

Shouldn't you be in bed ?

Do you now believe Bush is the antichrist ?

A) I didn't look at this thread before, cause no one ever pays attention to my farsighted brilliance and wholistic knowlege in the political threads, anyway. They don't answer me, etc. Their loss, if they think I'm a moron. But I understand, people like to discuss meaningless details, and facts, and one part of something, instead of the big picture, the whole, how everything works together, and solutions for such.
But - you posted, and so it made me look.

I always read and listen to your political posts.

B) I usually go to bed (lately) around 2-2:30. But yes, I should be in bed. But I should always be in bed, and I rarely am...

I am still on vacation, so I am up late too. Though I do love to be in bed. Speaking of which, I went bed shopping the other night and think I found a new mattress. I may start a thread about it

C) I never didn't believe Bush was the antichrist. That particular post was too "math heavy" for me to really get involved with right now, but trust me, I've always believed that. And, I have read about his skull and bones ****, and it frightened me to the core of my being, as if I didn't feel that way before, which I did.

Oh, it is way math heavy. That number crap confuses me. But the blog is kind of cool, as was the stuff he posted in general. His interpretations of the bible are way out of whack with all the hysterical neo-cons and are actually readable. I found it refreshing and rhetoric free. He isn't angry, he isn't convinced, and he asks a lot of interesting questions. I don't know that I buy the AntiChrist thing- I don't really but the Christ thing, so it's kind of a moot point. He makes a good case for it though. It would explian why all of Bush's cabinet members have the appearance of being subhuman, and are about to sprout tails, claws, and fangs at a moment's notice.

I can't believe half of America is so moronic/uneducated. Which is why certain politicians don't give money to education, because it is easier to fool uneducated people. Easier to carry out your moronic, ill advised, bullyish, empower-the-wealthy by using moronic jingoistic phrases, historically proven bad ideas, with an uneducated public. It's no accident that repubs always cut educational spending. No accident at all. (Der Magazine, 1980).
And I will read the thing posted here later.

The question is, have you seen The Rapture???? If not, you must. It is...otherworldly, I would say. :)

Oh I can believe the stupidity. Absolutely. Lack of education. Period.

I will rent the Rapture. I like Mimi Rogers. I would love to buy her a drink or 10 and get the real poop on your buddy Tommy boy.

I would never show that movie to a fundie. I let my friend borrow it who is moderately religious, only to be lectured on how offensive it was to him as if I actually gave a flying fig. The way that movie viciously rips apart Christianity is brilliant. Great stuff.

*GASP!*

That's been one of my favorite movies every since 92 or three when it came out. I adore it. I'd watch it again right this second. And I've seen it at least 4 times. ( a lot for me. probably really 5-7 times)
Hey, wasn't James LeGross awesome? He's really good, he's not in enough stuff. "Lay-mone Vay-air! Green Mountain! "

Member he did the thing with Julianne Moore, about the book, with the bunny, in Myth of Fingerprints??? (another movie I love). And did you see him in that weird Diane Lane gun movie? Brill. (I've forgotten the title, if you could supply it, that would be great. Also, I love Diane Lane. :p )
Of course I love Mimi Rogers, too. :)

I'd like to thank Sparky for making me read this thread...

innyways. *movie dork*

I think the movie with Diane Lane is My New Gun. That movie cracked me up. I must find it on DVD and watch it again.

I do like LeGros, he's wonderfully quirky.
