Does anyone know how close to one-million albums sold TISL is? In a recent interview this summer, Stevie had said that TISL was close to going platinum. Does anyone know the numbers? (i.e. 999,000 sold) Thanks! :)

It just kills me that TISL isnt platinum yet. To me, it was easily her best since Bella Donna, and the reviews were for the most part, very positive! It deserved much better sales than it has reached so far.

No, I think last time someone asked on the Billboard Q&A thing it was somewhere around 800,000 copies or so

Wow 4 years later it's still not platinum. Will I have to make trip to Wal-mart
tomorrow to get more copies.I wonder why. Because of this new music craze
is killing her sales or Peer to Peer filesharing robbed her, Zero radio airplay,in my area, Bad or not enough promotion from her record company like the Street Angel album.Hum I wonder why.

Great thread- I was wondering about this too. It bugs the sh*t out of me that records by the likes of the Simpson sisters and Clay Aiken have gone platinum, but not the most recent Stevie or Mac albums. Just tells me how shallow a lot of people's musical tastes are I guess.

I am one of the few who disagree with this. I do not think it is her best since Bella Donna. Street Angel might even be better than this IMO. Let me explain first lol.....
When TISL came out i really loved TISL, Sorcerer, Everyday, Planets, TTFT, Bombay, FFG. They were great. And Now in 05, they just aren't so great anymore. My mom put it in the other day in the car radio and i started skipping 1-2-3-4-5-6-7.......I listened to That Made me Stronger......
The 2 songs that have lasting effect on me are FFG and TISL, but even those are just good. I can't listen to TISL over and over or ill get sick of it. FFG is great live but not in 05 due to her vocal change at the end...grrr....

I think the same can be said of alot of music. I like TISL, because the vocals are clear and I don't think the production will become dated. In that respect it is like Bella Donna. I see why Stevie calls it her "Masterpiece." She did try to capture something timeless. I had the same reaction and favorite songs. I love the smoldering sound of That Made Me Stronger, but not some of the lyrics. Put the album away for awhile. P.S I wish she would sing Alice live.

I don't know that being a Stevie Nicks fan necessarily demonstrates depth of musical taste, but why do you even care whether her records sell more than anybody else's or not? She's got plenty of money, her concerts are almost always commercial successes, she's clearly not terribly concerned with bringing in new fans... so who cares? As long as she's going out there and releasing music she likes, and you like it too, then what's the difference if it sells 500,000 copies or 2 million?
The simple fact is that teenagers and young adults tend make up the majority of folks who buy CDs, and this is just a demographic that, by and large, Stevie does not appeal to at this point in her career. Nor is she trying to appeal to them. I'm sure she's perfectly content with the amount of business she did with TISL.
Also, just to clarify: as always, gold, platinum and diamond certifications are based on units shipped, not units sold. Why? Beats the hell out of me.

Maybe I was over-generalizing about musical tastes. I just respect the fact that at least Stevie writes her own stuff.
As far as why it concerns me about her record sales success- I really don't know. I guess I just know that a lot of people associate record sales with quality, and I wish Stevie had more sales for that reason.

the only disc i have multiple copies of (that i purchased as new) is the Dance. in an effort to help out homegirl's sales, i think i might just buy everyone i know TISL for christmas?
and just to point it out: when you buy a used disc, that doesn't really count now does it... i bought over half of my Mac collection at a second-hand shop and then ended up buying them new when i had the cash. i'm not saying that everyone should do that, but it does skew sales figures.

Half the time, anywa. Do you not respect Sinatra and Billie Holiday?

Who are the people who think this, and why do you care that they think this? And doesn't it make a bit more sense to wish these people would wise up, rather than wish that Stevie or anybody else would fit into their skewed paradigm?

Please don't. There's nothing worse than getting a CD you don't want as a gift, and there's nothing more awkward than receiving a gift that you know is meant more for the person who gave it than it is for you. Think of poor Marge when Homer got her that bowling ball.

That reminds me of a couple of years ago when I was in line for Stevie tickets and all these parents were there with their teeny-boppers scoring tix for the Spice Girls. I was like HA! they may have sold a few million copies of this record but they won't be anywhere to be found in a year or two. Why not introduce the kiddies to someone with more staying power and talent, like say, Stevie Nicks!

Would be kinda silly - if she's just a thousand shy, it'll get there
pretty soon. If it's based on units shipped then it's basically there
right now. And homegirl probably isn't too worried about it.

Maybe they should have released some singles - like "That Made Me
Stronger" ?
No really, though, I love it too - especially "Planets of the Universe"
(written in 1977 or so) and Love Is. And TISL itself, candlebright,
the whole thing. But T M M S?
I guess I just don't get that one. :) :p
The piano demo of Planets is WONDERFUL, by the way.
i m o it's one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard S. do.
