View Full Version : Quick Suggestion For Future Downloads....

First off, I want to thank everyone for all of the great mpegs, mp3s and photos that have been shared lately. Great stuff!
I'd like to make a suggestion though... since the files on YouSendIt are deleted after 25 downloads or 7 days (whichever comes first), perhaps everyone might want to consider using Rapidshare (http://www.rapidshare.de/) instead.
They don't have any download limits and the file stays available indefinitely (unless they haven't been accessed for 30+ days).
It works a little differently than YouSendIt, but I think it's an excellent alternative. :)

The dang thing won't load at the moment, however -- what the hell is up with all these hosting sites on the Internet today? Is there some sort of rampant virus or worm?

I think the idea of using Rapidshare is an inspired one... more space so it's not as limited. I also use Putfile sometimes, although it's a complicated journey to download the file from there.

The only downside to Rapidshare is that they have a file size limit of 50MBs, so if anyone plans on uploading videos that are over that, use YouSendIt because their file size limit is 1GB.

Thanks for the heads up, I will check Rapidshare out for the smaller size files.
It's a pain in the neck sometimes to keep reuploading every 7 days.

Also with rapidshare isn't there a limit to how much you can download? Again I don't think it would matter with mp3's but with videos it may.
But JohnnyStew your idea is clearly tops and inspired and I agree, it is so great because I have never heard any of these before!

I couldn't get rapidshare or yousendit to load earlier today either. They're both working now though. :)

it should be noted that when attempting to download from rapidshare this is the message i too received:
You have requested the file thinkaboutitdemo.mp3 (7314162 Bytes). This file has been downloaded 25 times already. IMPORTANT: Download-accelerators are only supported with a PREMIUM-Account!
so the same will occur at this site as yousentit if it is not a premeium account.
[edit: woops i see that has already been noted]

what i have been doing lately, is i let ledgies know that i have it and if they are interested to let me know, then i send them the link via PM. that way we ensure that registered/participating ledgies obtain the files, rather than the 100 guests who sign on to nab the file first. just a suggestion.

I've been having problems all day, David. My internet was actually down most of the day.

so the same will occur at this site as yousentit if it is not a premeium account. Not really... the files uploaded to Rapidshare can still be downloaded an unlimited amount of times, even if the users don't have premium accounts.
Mainly, what a premium account allows you to do, is to avoid waiting a minute or so for a "download ticket," as well as allowing you to use a download-accelerator such as Star Downloader.
Premium account members also receive points every time a file they uploaded is downloaded, and then those points can be redeemed for free gifts.
Overall, I find it to be a more viable option than YouSendIt (for uploading files under 50MBs, of course), where there are definitely limits to the amount of times a file can be downloaded before it's deleted from their storage.

Sweetheart, underneath where it lists how many times it's been downloaded, it will say "Download Ticket Reserved" and there will be a 25 second countdown. Wait 25 seconds and the download link will appear. :xoxo:
