Many moons ago, I bought an album called Strangers Almanec by Whiskeytown in a record sale for a £1 because I had heard the band mentioned alongside The Jayhawks, who at the time were my favourite band.
I've been a huge fan of Ryan Adams ever since, although I did go off him a little during his Rock N Roll period (that said Love Is Hell came out at the same time and that's superb)
I think Heartbreaker is still my favourite album, but this year Cold Roses and Jacksonville City Nights have reconfirmed my faith in him, and they are probably my favourite albums of 2005.
C'mon, I know there are loads of Ryan fans on here now, come forth and declare your fandom!

I first discovered Ryan in this rad little record store near my house. I was there buying a bunch of CD's, and randomly picked up Gold. I think that was back in 2002. I tend to buy music I've never heard of, like that, I've discovered some great artists that way. Anyway, I've since purchased every album Ryan has put out, though I only have one Whiskeytown album, Pneumonia. I can honestly say I seriously love all of his albums. Yes, I even love most of Rock N Roll. I think Ryan is a unique and talented, creative, and amazing artist. He's definitely been my favorite for years now.
I really can't pick a favorite album. A favorite song is hard as well, there are just so many that blow me away.

I first discovered Ryan Adams less than a week ago after the high praise bestowed upon him by the likes of Sharon. I caved and bought his new album, which I am totally loving. I ordered some other ones and should get them in two or three days. That is all for now.

I think Heartbreaker is still my favourite album Yeah, mine too.
Ryan Adams is in my top five favorite artists. I've loved him since Whiskeytown. And it doesn't hurt that he's a North Carolina boy, either.
Some of my favorite songs are:
Oh My Sweet Carolina
Dear Chicago
Somehow, Someday
Come Pick Me Up
This House Is Not For Sale
When the Stars Go Blue
La Cienega Just Smiled
Well, the list could go on and on. He's amazing. Period.

Look, there you are! :D I totally agree.
:wavey:
If anyone needs the UK bonus tracks for Jacksonville (Jeanne, Always On My Mind, What Sin Replaces Love), let me know and I'll upload them to yousendit tomorrow at work. I have Jeane and Always On My Mind (both are amazing, btw), but I don't have the other one. I can't wait to hear it!

I ordered Heartbreaker, Gold, Demolition, and Cold Roses. :woohoo:
Hopefully they're good, I didn't get Rock N Roll because I didn't read good things about it.
I have Gold, Demolition, and Rock N' Roll. I don't like Demolition and Rock N' Roll is just meh. But I love Gold. So what albums would you recommend that are more like Gold and less like the others?

I love Heartbreaker, but I thought I had sort of played it out, and then my son (at 1 year) got into it, and now I hear it atl ealst twice a day, for the last year. He calls it "2/3" for the count in after the argument with David Rawlings. The album really holds up, because I still sing along with every song!
I think I got Heartbreaker after my Brother in Law played Sweet Carolina for me on his guitar. He told me he went ot a show here in SF where someone in the audience kept yelling for him to play "Cuts Like a Knife" and he wasn't amused.

I meant who should start the thread about everyone's favorite albums of 2005, dude.

That's so cool. I feel so influential now. I knew my constant banging on about him would pay off
I would suggest listening to them in this order: Heartbreaker, Cold Roses, Demolition.
Oh and let me know what you think!
Thanks for the advice. You're the expert, so that's how I'll listen to them. I'll definitely let you know what i think. If they're as good as his new one, I'll be a happy camper.

Aw, that's so cute. Your son already has superb taste, wow!
I think that count in was what attracted him, cuz he used to make me loop that. I am know I shouldn't be letting him sing along with "Come Pick Me Up" but that is one of my favorites on the album.

Oh, excellent. Love is Hell is really good too, I could send you a few tracks from that and some of the good ones from Rock N Roll, if you decide you'd like to hear more Ryan. RNR is fairly maligned but there are still some tracks of worth on it.
Also, a lot of people seem to dislike Demolition, which I find puzzling. Some of Ryan's most beautiful songs are on it. i.e. Desire & Dear Chicago...
First of all, I'm a girl not a dude.
Secondly, if you read the last Face Off, I started the thread because Mari and Josh began talking about Ryan Adams, and then Moony told me I should start this thread, not you. You don't have to look in this thread if you don't want to.
I must admit, I can never tell if you're being playful or sarcastic. I hope it's the former.
Bring out the stick!!

Also, a lot of people seem to dislike Demolition, which I find puzzling. I can't understand that, either. Demolition is a great record. The only track I skip is Jesus (Don't Touch My Baby).

OK, and now I have heard more then a handful of people rave about this dude. Is he mostly country rock? Ballads? I have to hear some of it now... curiosity gets to me.....

More later, at work now. I can never remember titles of albums or songs if I don't see them in front of me
The face off addict was in bed last night, at 8:30 :o

Thanks for those tracks, Sharon! I didn't have any of them.
I also really love the songs on Demolition. I use a ton of them whenever I make anyone a Ryan mix. The normal tracklist for a "Know and Love Ryan Solo!" mix by Hayley is pretty much made standard with at least these tracks:
To Be Young
My Winding Wheel
Come Pick Me Up
La Cienega Just Smiled
When the Stars Go Blue
Answering Bell
New York, New York
Starting to Hurt
Dear Chicago
Cry on Demand
Nuclear
Burning Photographs
Anybody Wanna Take Me Home
Wonderwall
Magnolia Mountain

I hate him. Really sub-par Springsteen imitation, and considering I'm not all that hot about Springsteen in the first place it's plain obvious where I stand on Mr. Adams. Songs like "Summer Of 69" are simply New Jersey-cliches stolen from Springsteen and, gasp, Jon Bon Jovi. I've heard crap like "Everything I Do (I Do It For You)", "Have You Ever Loved A Woman" and "Please Forgive Me" WAY too damn often anyway.
(Har har, that's enough for the obvious joke you've all heard too often already. RYAN Adams is mildly good in my book, but hardly any more than that).

 Gaius, that made me smile.
My favorite ryan adams-song is a bonustrack of Love Is hell Pt 2:
F*ck the Universe. I wish he made an album of distorted rock like that.
I always thought Summer of 69 stole the riff from Go Your Own Way. And that's what I hear in sooooo many B-ryan Adams songs, stolen riffs or chord schemes etc.. just too obvious.
But RRRyan Adams.. I'll add a yousendit of Statuettes With Wounds tonight, it's one of my favorites :)
hopla. yousendit link.

Just listened to one of the tracks you had, 'What Sin Replaces Love'. Woo, that's a great one!
I bet if he'd do a boxset.. would 4 cd's be enough? 5?:D There's so much stuff out there.

Very
Well, you know I don't like to see a grown Moony cry. I'll upload it to yousendit later and post it here for ya. It was a bonus track on the Love Is Hell EP, Part 2. It didn't make it to the CD where they put both the EPs together.
Aww, you're the best, Sharon!
Anyway, one more reason Ryan is super cool.
He dates fricking Parker Posey!!
That is super neat, but he should be dating Moony. :)

I will fight back for this one, Sharon!
Anyway, this is for the Moonster, it's Ryan's happy little family tune F**k The Universe:

Cos you NEED that song! It's totally fab.
