We do, it's just not exactly like that.
Does sound cool, wish I could go.

And what do we get? The only Stevie themed gathering I've ever heard of was the Wild Heart Affair... :shrug:

Hey Ledgies!

Thanks for all of the interest. I've hosted 2 Fleetwood Mac CD release parties in the past. One for "The Very Best Of ..." and one for "Say You Will." We had great turnouts for both of these parties. Fans came from NY, NJ, DE, VA and MD, I was so knocked out by that. It's really a fun and lively atmosphere. The more Stevie fans the better. Hopefully some of you can make it.

There were those parties on Stevie's birthday for a few years. I went to the first few, but stopped when it was moved to the Ramada Hotel in Civic Center.

Omega is my favorite gay bar in DC, I'd love to go to this.

Yeah, I would love to go to something like this out here in LA. Hell, if she's in town wouldn't it be awesome if we could get her to come? Pipe dream, I know.

Hope your event goes well, it sounds like it will be a lot of fun.

I ::think:: I have been there. I went bar hopping after the Madonna concert last year. It's a nice friendly atmosphere...more of a bar/mini club than a full fledged club with lights and disco balls. If it's the place that I remember, (the pics on their site look familiar) they play music videos all night long....clips of the Golden Girls and other "gay friendly" shows....Kathy Griffin skits....stuff like that....I enjoyed it there.

Yes, it's a rather small two-story bar. It's a little hard to find, you have to go through a parking lot off of P Street to the back of a building. It's a very friendly and casual bar.

Sorry, L.A.'s gross :p .

Wouldn't you rather come to SF for the weekend and make a mini vacation out of it??? :nod:

Neal
09-30-2005, 04:34 PM
That would probably actually be pretty easy to engineer around here. Although, I'm pretty sure that David was joking. It's still a good idea, though.
Ha, when I was at the gay bar...whenever, two weeks ago or something...I was talking to this guy (who liked to dress up in kind of old fashioned/mod suits - and looked really preppy) and blah blah, and some time I was like "I like Stevie Nicks" and he was all "Who doesn't????" :D

Are there any gay bars in Oakland/SF that would close for a private event? I know of one here in San Jose that would, but asking people to come here is like asking them to jam a fork into their eye... :distress:

Actually that would be fine with me. Maybe I should start a thread for west coasters and ask if SF or LA is going to be better? Either is fine for me but I'd like to organize something.

Ok you start the thread and see if there is any interest over the next few days and put a poll on there for SF or LA. If there is a good response I'll look into it although if it ends up being up north I'll be at a disadvantage since I"m down here but I'll give it a try! Does that sound ok?

I'd probably go down to LA for it, and would even go to San Jose.

The Stevie parties here in the 90's were in straight bars, the Covered Wagon and some basement bar on 9th whose name escapes me.

The best bet for convincing a bar would be to have a Stevie-theme Trannyshack at the Stud, but I think it would lose the appeal of drawing diehard fans and would just be more of a campy thing.

Hey Ledgies~

In case anyone is interested, here are a couple of reviews that 2 fans wrote after I held the first Mac party at Omega. These are posted on the nicksfix.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Reviews of "The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac" Release Party
---------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a fan party to celebrate the release of the album. It took place at Omega Club in DC.
I was fortunate enough to be able to attend "The Very Best Of Fleetwood Mac" promotional party in Washington DC on October 12, 2002! Wow, it was quite a night! So many feelings-- and some of them were because of the road trip to Washington DC. My friend Mo and I drove southward on I-95, passing by Silver Springs, realizing Stevie named a song after that very town, "because it sounded like a pretty fabulous place."
A very sick and demented person has brought a lot of heartache to our nation, and that very special place. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people, families and friends of those who have been hurt and killed from this whole area.
We were relieved to just arrive. We were welcomed by many Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac fans-- and some very incredible music! October 12 happened to be the day that the "Tusk" album was released to the world; so, along with celebrating the new album, we were clearly celebrating "Tusk"'s birthday! Stevie's song "Sara" got a special "spotlight" on two really fabulous birthday cakes made for the occasion.
There were flowers on either end of a long table: roses and sunflowers for some special friends' birthdays-- and also in honor of Stevie Nicks. There were some gorgeous Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks posters and pictures, as well as a few Top Hats, and tambourines throughout the room. Brand NEW copies of the new "The Very Best Of Fleetwood Mac" were awarded to attendees as their names were pulled out of a hat. A few fortunate people also received mini posters and window clings of the new album.
I saw some people receive other Fleetwood Mac and Stevie albums, as well-- "Rumours," "Fleetwood Mac LIVE," and "Fleetwood Mac" (self titled, 'the white album') were all represented, as was Stevie Nicks' "Bella Donna," "Wild Hearts," "Rock A Little," "The Other Side Of The Mirror" and "Trouble in Shangri-La." They even gave out a few copies of "The Dance, DVD"! I hadn't ever been to a promo gathering before, but if there is going to be one for Fleetwood Mac's NEW album (4/03?), "Save Me A Place." :o)
This promo party definitely gave some serious grass roots exposure for Fleetwood Mac, as not everyone in attendance were fans! Many other videos were played, but clearly the evening was dominated by Fleetwood Mac. The highlight of the night for me was just being able to enjoy some crystal clear videos and wonderful music with some very special friends. Let's do it AGAIN!
Here are just some of the some of the songs that were featured:
Rhiannon (The Dance)
Over My Head (The Dance)
Say You Love Me (The Dance)
Dreams, two versions. (Tango and The Dance)
You Make Loving Fun (The Dance)
The Chain (Mirage)
Silver Springs
Sara (Tusk)
Angel (Tusk)
Hold Me
Gypsy
Big Love (rockamerica remix)
Seven Wonders
Little Lies (rockamerica remix)
As Long As You Follow
Skies The Limit
Paper Doll
Edge of Seventeen (In Concert)
Stand Back
If Anyone Falls
Talk To Me
I Can't Wait (rockamerica remix)
Rooms On Fire
Whole Lotta Trouble
Every Day
Also somewhat related:
Destiny's Child: Bootylicious
Sheryl Crow's: Soak Up The Sun, Steve McQueen
and a VERY funny video of South Park's that included "Miss. Nicks."
(baaaa!) ... the closing song of the night was "Landslide"
Kudos and special thank yous to Reprise, Rhino and VJTre for giving us all a giant Fleetwood Mac Attack! :o) love, blackcat
--------------------------------------------------------------------
I had a terrific time at the Omega Club’s “The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac” promotional party. What a feeling to walk into a club and hear something beautiful and familiar. The music of Fleetwood Mac. A large, excited crowd had turned out to welcome the new Fleetwood Mac release. There were videos, there was cake, there was music, there were birthdays, and there were fans. There was a VJ who treated us to such video gems as “I Can’t Wait.” “Gypsy” “Hold Me” “Big Love” “The Chain (from the mirage video)” “If Anyone Falls” and my favorite, the beautiful “Rooms on Fire.” Seeing the videos made me long for the day when they are released on DVD. The heavily Stevie flavored music had everyone in the place dancing, swirling, and celebrating the new ‘Very Best of Fleetwood Mac’ release. A special thanks to VJTre for a wonderful night of great music from old friends. I look forward to the next Fleetwood Mac new release celebration party. I had a time! - Keith, Washington, D.C.
Hey Ledgies,
Again, thanks for all of the interest. I must apologize for the website, they are so slow to get it updated. The flier will eventually be added to the "special events" section. I must warn you, they will ask for id, so I can't tell you what to do ;)
In all honesty though, I don't know if the age limit is 18 or 21. I will look into it and get back.
I'm glad a lot of you are all excited about this. I also want to add, unlike the past 2 Fleetwood Mac parties I had at Omega, this is not a promotional party. This is a gathering of fans (hopefully many of you) to just come, hang out and jam to Stevie on the big screen. Omega is the premiere video bar in DC. But I am working on trying to get some promo goodies, but I don't want anyone to expect to come and get a CD, etc. But again, I'm working on it. You will have fun nonetheless. I already have confirmation of fans coming from PA and DE. WOO HOO
Will you be playing some bootleg videos of live songs as well?
Travis
10-01-2005, 02:51 PM
Hi Curtis,
Keep in mind that even though this is a Stevie Nicks party, I will be playing other videos by other artists as well. The club is open from 8:00 PM to 2:45 AM. Playing Stevie / Mac all that time would be overkill. Plus, we are open to the general public so it won't be all Nicks fans. However, the last two parties I had, more fans showed up than I expected, they were great crowds. I'll play as many as 3 or 4 Stevie videos in a row, then I'll take a break a play some videos by other artists. But don't fret, the music and videos will be dominated by Stevie and Mac that night.
About playing bootleg recordings, well, as you know, a lot of the sound quality on this stuff is not so great. It does not translate well, especially in a club setting. However, I do have things in which I think you'd be pleasantly surprised, such as the "Edge of Seventeen" and Civil War version of "Stand Back," both re-tracked from the CD, so the quality is great. I also have the AOL Sessions from Say You Will. And I have remix videos for "I Can't Wait," "Little Lies" and "Big Love." You will enjoy yourself.
Can't wait to see who shows up.
Travis
As long as you keep it primarily Stevie, Kelly, Gwen, and maybe a little Madonna for good measure.. we won't have a problem ;)
I just got what I think would be a cool brilliant idea, but it would requre a bit more work!
Wouldn't it be fun to do a live gig at the party? The Gold Dust Project just finished up recently, and I think it would be fun to get Ledgies to come sing.
I don't know what exactly we'd do for a band, though I'd be a definite in on keyboards and vocals (I'd like to get on some campaign to be the FM touring keyboardist in 2007 ;))
Just a thought, and if not this year, there are plenty of years to come!
