Uhm -

Did it seem to anyone else like Brooke Shields was crying during
Stand Back? She looked VERY emotional to me!
Presumably because it was such a big deal for Stevie ( in a way )
and since because it was her first show back, since. . . .

BWAHHAHAH! I know I was about to comment on how everyone from the chit-chat board seems to be scrambling over here...and I kept thinking something HOTTT is going on over in Stevie land! AND IT ALL HAS TO DO WITH THE TODAY SHOW! 10 or 15 threads about one appearance!

What was it like in here with TISL come out?

But, I did see the today show performance and it was SPOT ON! Stevie sounded and looked beautifully and...

yes I think Brooke was getting somewhat emotional.

OH-kay. I saw it on broadcast tv, not cable,
so I wasn't sure if she was laughing (from happiness)
or crying.

I really do agree with the comment above though, that she seemed
"emotional." I bet she's a big fan.
That girl in the front that they kept showing in front is an up-and-coming
supermodel, by the way. I don't know her name though.
But she should call me! (   )

If you don't want to read about it, then don't click on the thread. Why does everyone go so crazy if a couple of posts are somewhat similar. Does it really bother everyone that much? There's more important things to worry about than an extra thread on a message board. There is only so much to talk about right now since there is not much going on in Stevie-land, so naturally there would be a few threads about the Today Show.

I did not know Brooke was a Stevie fan and at first I did not recognize Brooke in the croud, because when I first looked at the tape, I went right to Stevie's first song, I did not watch any earlier footage then the first song, because I did not want to be late getting back to work from lunch.when I got home later I viewed
the whole show and picked up this Brooke interview 15 minutes before Stevie's set.

if anyones interested, here's the Mpeg Clip, 2:27 min long, 25mb Enjoy

I really kind of got the feeling Brooke was seeing Stevie up there looking fab, sounding fab and emitting tons of fab and, in her own fandom, was overcome with joy and emotion - especially during landslide

I think she was emotional simply to see Stevie back on stage for the
first time since her Dad's death.
Guys, this was a really, really big deal for Stevie.
And P.S. she almost didn't go on.
That's why she was on later than she was scheduled to, I think.
So I think maybe Brooke - and everyone else who was crying -
was just so relieved and happy to see her hit the stage dancing once more.
That's the way it seems to me anyway.

How do you know this? Did Stevie tell you that herself?

Why would Brooke Shields, or anyone else (besides us) even be aware her father died? Why would that get Brooke so emotional? And based on the concert performances at the beginning of the week, it seems Stevie went on right on schedule. I don't mean to offend, but I think you've been drawing some pretty melodramatic conclusions about Stevie and her reaction to her father's death ... based on... I'm not sure what? Please enlighten, because you seem to have some pretty deep inside information...

She was making a weird face and I kept thinking to myself, why isn't she singing along, doesn't she know the words, or what? Who doesn't know the words to those songs? Especially if they keep showing her on the screen. WTF? I can't be too hard on Brooke though, because she's a good friend to the gay community. I just thought it was bizarre.

And the comments come just a few days after Ghost_Tracker posted that it was possible Stevie was going to collapse and die from her grief. Yes, I'm sure Brooke Shields cried (which I didn't see at all, but so many claim that she did for some reason) because Stevie was making a glorious return to the stage!!1!!11! so soon after her father's passing. Puhleeze. This wasn't about Stevie Nicks, it was about helping victims of one of the greatest natural disasters in our country's history.

And where are you getting your information? Stevie almost didn't go on? How do you know? She went on later than scheduled? No, she didn't. Just like you said last week that there has been concern that Ms. Nicks won't get over it and will just wither away. I mean, c'mon.

Simply based on a letter she posted on The Nicksfix
about her Dad's death and how it has affected her
and on comments and letters she wrote for the fans
(also on Nicksfix) recently about how sick he was
this entire past year
and how he meant everything to her.
Yes I know she's strong, and she'll get over it,
and all that. I just feel badly for her because
she's indicated that they're very close.
And 7 weeks isn't a long time in grieving -
My Mom's Dad died when my Mom was around the
same age, and she told me that it took 7 years
before she felt normal again.
And they weren't actually all that close.
Stevie's indicated many times in interviews
that they were very close.
And he felt the same way - he could barely talk about her
and her music without getting choked up.
They were Bonnie and Clyde, etc.
Sorry, I didn't mean to sound "melodramatic" or something,
but I've just been trying to convey that this isn't business
as usual for Stevie right now.
You don't need to know anyone who knows someone who knows
someone, to see that. So I'm sorry if it came across the wrong
way, I just simply can't help feeling for her, knowing what they
said about how they felt about each other, and what Stevie
has recently publicly indicated about how she is currently feeling.
But I do think that The Today Show performance went
wonderfully well, and if The Australia Thing is for real
then I think that that's a great sign.

But I honestly do feel that we shouldn't take her for granted -
she's fifty-seven, and it's not like she needs the money.
The death of a loved one can often cause one to make
radical life changes. So I'm simply trying to say -

Don't take Stevie for granted.

( :) )

And if you can find them - they're probably on the Internet -
check out the lyrics to Stevie's song "Amber," which is about
her Dad and how they felt about each other.
You'll see what I mean. I think it's on B/N.net

I can also tell you that I myself felt very emotional during
"Stand Back" as well. It could have been my imagination,
but it seemed to me (and others I've asked) that she
was struggling, especially at the end. I was sitting
there praying that she'd somehow find a way to get through it.
Granted she's a lot older now, don't forget this is the same person
that used to start crying onstage at the drop of a hat!
(for example a performance of Landslide all the way back in the
mid-70s - she started crying and almost couldn't do it, and yet
she's LAUGHING at herself at the same time for being so -
emotional.)

Well, I probably should have stressed that technically I was just
guessing. But I thought I heard Matt Lauer whisper something
about it to Katie Couric, irritably, and Katie C. was like,
"Give her a break, her DAD just died" etc. - I don't know
details there I admit, but the two of them seemed a little
irritable. I definitely admit that may have been my imagination.
But also - I heard that before they went live, Sharon C. did
"Landslide" all the way through, with the other musicians, and
I believe Stevie was not there (onstage). There's been
speculation - and I admit, people were just speculating -
that the reason was, they wanted to see if Sharon could do
it if Stevie was not up to it. That may have been just a
"Sound Check" thing, but I've never heard of a sound check
where the backup singer takes the part of the lead singer.
It also seemed to me that they moved the cooking segment
earlier - that's normally at the end of the show - and I guess I
mistakenly thought that the reason was that Stevie wasn't sure.
So I guess I was flat-out wrong about that.
But me? Seven weeks later? I'd still be a zombie. So I don't blame her if
this was very difficult for her. Three cheers just for doing it.

No offense, but what on Earth are you talking about? Matt and Katie didn't seem upset to me about anything and I didn't see them whisper anything about Stevie's Dad to each other. And I certainly don't think she was struggling during Standback. If she was struggling why would she be twirling and and dancing like always without even a hint of somberness? She seemed fine. And as far as Sharon singing Landslide, that is kind of a big leap to think that she was practicing in case Stevie couldn't go on. No offense to Sharon, but I doubt they would air one of Stevie's back up singers singing the song for her because the average person really doesn't care about hearing Sharon sing the song. So, they would most likely have just flat out canceled but, I still don't think that is the case. She seemed fine to me...

All of this is so far-fetched... you have this tendancy of posting "information" that is sort of out in left field.. you say that you heard Matt whisper something to Katie and then she responded back "give her a break, her father just died".. yet you don't follow up that "information" with any facts.. were you physically there at the Today Show at Rockefeller Plaza?? If so, where were you standing that you were able to hear all of this??
And who were these people who were speculating that Sharon was going to sing in place of Stevie?? There was about a 3 minute gap between the time that Sharon finished singing "Landslide" and Stevie emerged on stage... So, you mean to tell me that people in the crowd during that 3 minute time period were "speculating" that Sharon was going to sing in place of Stevie?

You need to be more careful how you word things.. If all of what you say is your "opinion", that is fine.. but make that clear.. and if they are indeed "facts", then you need to elaborate more on them..

Well, no, you actually said:

And P.S. she almost didn't go on. Page 2.

It came across as if you were stating FACT. Anyway. Whatever. I think Stevie was radiant and performed energetically (uh, considering it was 8:30am  ) and sounded beautiful. And I don't think she was in mourning as she was singing. And I don't think she nearly broke down, or had any difficulty finishing. But that is just my opinion. Because I have absolutely no first hand knowledge because I don't speak to Stevie on a regular basis (okay, not at all).

And on edit: I'm outta this discussion - because I can't believe how ABSURD it is!!!

Well, maybe it was our imagination but -
it really seemed to me that the last two shouts
of "Stand BACK!", Stevie had some trouble getting
them out. I've seen her lose it onstage several
times over the years (in video and audio clips on
the Internet, mostly) - and her voice ( i m o )
shows certain signs of it beforehand. Could be
wrong, I do admit, but it seemed to me
that that's exactly where she was at, at the end
of Stand Back. Anyway, I think she would prob'ly
want us to keep the focus on the reason she was
there, anyway. But I just feel so happy to see
her doing anything on stage at ALL, right now.
And now there's this Rumour about an Australian
tour - So hopefully she's back, and looking around. ;)

I'm sure that would've gone over big with the audience if Sharon sang Stevie's songs live on the Today Show. Snooze. I've heard Sharon sing the lead for soundcheck lots of times. That is nothing out of the ordinary. I think you're making a lot of assumptions. Stevie is a professional and I'm sure she wouldn't have agreed to perform so soon after her Dad's death if she wasn't 100% sure she could do it.

I was looking for signs that she was having a hard time, esp during the Landslide soundcheck. No, she seemed fine. (unlike certain shows this summer where she seemed like a wreck to me personally) During commercial breaks, she was laughing, joking, dancing around and waving. I am not saying her Dad's death was not difficult. I know it was. However, the man was ill for quite a long time. Stevie knew he was dying. She flew to Washington DC to visit injured vets the day after her Dad's memorial service...she did not stay in Phoenix and waste away. When I heard this I realized that Stevie was really ok, before this I was scared of how she would cope with it. His death was difficult but not unexpected for her. I think she has it all in perspective, she misses him but knows she had to let him go. He lived a long, fullfilling life and probably did not want to be in that condition. Stevie knows she will see her Dad again someday.

I tried to answer diplomatically in my last reply because I have been starting enough trouble in this forum lately! However, this stuff about Katie and Matt being irritable. No, it didnt happen. Katie and Matt were looking adoringly at Stevie throughout the show and the commercial breaks. Matt did go over with Stevie what Katie was going to ask her, Stevie was aware they were going to make the Landslide/Dad connection. However, that was done during the commercial part before Stevie ever went on live. So if you were not there and down front, you would not know that. Matt's tongue was pretty much hanging out as he watched her. This thread has gotten nuts and I cannot believe I am replying.

Brooke wouldn't be such an alleged mess if she'd just let Tom Cruise brainwash...er I mean convert her to Scientology.

Ok, I just saw Brooke on Regis & Kelly, and I am convinced that she is a man in drag. Her face is so masculine.

Yes, this solves everything!
It's too bad that Nicole Kidman and her 160 I.Q.
just aren't able to understand that concept.

By the way I learned yesterday that "Nikki" Kidman's Dad is a
psychologist - so this may have been more complex than we thought.
He might've been just trying to piss her off out of spite or something.
Or maybe she kept trying to psychoanalyze him?

Nicole essentially said "F*ck you" to Tommy Boy last week by saying that psychiatry is a wonderful thing that helps many people at a press conference for the new movie she's filming.

Uhm -

Did it seem to anyone else like Brooke Shields was crying during
Stand Back? She looked VERY emotional to me!
Presumably because it was such a big deal for Stevie ( in a way )
and since because it was her first show back, since. . . .
Hello :wavey:

One of the many reason I love her! :p

I thought Brooke was crying too. She looked like just a regular fan out there looking up at Stevie with puppy dog eyes. I think she's probably a big fan.
