I missed the first 5 minutes of the season premiere Sunday night - the "tease" before the opening credits. Can someone give me a blow by blow? I know I missed Danny Kincannon (sp?)... which makes me very sad... And I know it was a flash forward...
But what exactly I miss??
PS I loved this episode... bodes well for the season!

Here's the abbreviated version:
It was supposed to be 3 years later and the opening of the Bartlet Presidential Library. Some of the old staff was being greeted by President Bartlet when Josh came up the stairs to announce that the President had arrived. They showed the limo pull up and the door open but you could only see his feet coming out before it cut to the opening credits.
Love this show. I'm looking forward to Janeane Garofalo joining the cast. Kristin Chenoweth cracks me up

I love the West Wing!!!
I missed the whole first half hour, so I am sooooo upset.
But I am excited again for the show. SO many questions...

Thanks! :) I also found an episode description on the web that described the beginning in detail - CJ and Danny are married with a kid!! :] I love it!! Now, we just have to hope that the show lasts three more years so we can see this happen....
I didn't know Janeane was joining the cast - interesting. I didn't care for Kristin last season, but I did like her in the first episode. I just hope it doesn't tank in the ratings and get cancelled. The surest way to kill a show is to take it from the night and time it's had forever (Wednesday at 9pm) and pitch it to another day. Evil.

I think Janeane is going to be Josh's assistant on the campaign. I hate that it's not on Wednesday! Come on - West Wing starts with a W - it belongs on Wednesday!

I'm taping. :) I like to watch it on my own time - and skip the commercials! :D
But since we're talking about it... what happened to Charlie?? Wasn't he CJ's assistant? I did watch the first 5 minutes tonight, and the opening credits, and he's no longer on. Did I miss something? Or forget some crucial storyline?

Good question!!! I have no idea what happened. I know Stockard Channing left to be on a sitcom on CBS. I do hope she shows back up for the Bartlets leaving the White House...

Me too!! I love Stockard Channing - she's been brilliant as Abby. Especially last season with Bartlet getting sicker and sicker. Actually, they've been brilliant together the past 7 years - there was one time they were having a fight and I was actually getting uncomfortable watching it at home. I wonder if both she and Dule Hill will make some guest appearences this season..

Poorly written? It's your choice to dislike it, but poorly written it ain't (save the horrid fifth season when Sorkin left the show). The writing is outstanding. If you want poorly written, watch the Geena Davis show.

West Wing is one of the best written dramas on tv. I agree, the fifth season was lacking as they found the post-Sorkin direction, but it recovered very quickly.
I am still watching and tonight's episode was so great.

I was so sad to see Toby get fired, but it was executed brilliantly. Nice to see Abby back, and Charlie too.
Everyone is wondering who will get elected, but my question is who stays on the show?
I have my opinions, but does anyone else have a theory?

I think Santos will win the election. CJ has to stay, as does Josh, but as for the rest...I have no idea. I'd dig it if Janeane Garofalo stayed on the show in some way (I'm digging her and Josh together, BIG TIME), but I don't think it will happen.

Just finally watched Sunday's episode last night. Brilliant - very sad, but as someone said, so well executed.
I've been finding this season the best in a couple of years. What I'm most worried about is not who will be elected and stay on the show, but if it will even make it to another season. :( NBC pretty much opened the coffin and put it in when it moved it from Wednesday night (where everyone KNEW it was) to Sunday. It's not in the Neilson Top 20 anymore; I'm not sure where it lands. But I really, really hope it doesn't get cancelled.
I went over to a West Wing board at one point earlier this year because I missed the first few minutes of the season premiere. I couldn't believe the hatred for CJ!! I love CJ! But this forum was all like, everyone should stay on next season but they have to get rid of CJ. What the h*ll???
I'm guessing Josh will go grovel and bring Donna on to his campaign. I was also really glad to see Abby and Charlie. And Will. Not that was an emotional scene. It'll be interesting to see who else Josh brings in...

I love CJ. She was always one of my favorite characters.
I think Santos will win, Josh will become COS, CJ or Annabeth will be Press Secretary (CJ will become Communications Director if Annabeth stays on). If Toby comes back, he'll be DCOS. Will shall become Deputy Communications Director. Donna will become Margaret, or perhaps take Debbie's place.
Charlie's a goner.
Thoughts?

And Seasons 1 and 2 are by far some of the best TV drama ever produced. The writing is sheer brilliance.

Tonight was another great episode. I loved how they set up next week's debate and the abortion storyline was quite interesting.

I watched it. It was ok. Arnie and Matt both held ground and there was no 'clear' winner. I gave the debate to Santos, because he espoused many more ideas than Vinick.
I do wich they had shown some behind the scenes stuff with Josh or a breakaway showing White House reaction. Die hards will love this episode, but becuse it really was a one hour debate without any major gaffes, I think it might turn off some casual viewers as there was no real character development.

Oooh, it was so good. I really liked it. I don't know who I'd name the winner because they both did pretty darned good. Vinick seemed more confident, but Santos, like you said, had more ideas and expressed them better than Vinick. I liked it the way it was because it really felt like a real debate. What a great episode.
How funny is it that I'm talking about it like it was a real presidential debate?

I still watch too.
The debate was very good. I was hoping to see a little behind the scenes stuff with Josh or something, but all in all it was very good. Vinick and Santos were both compelling and there was no clear 'winner' but you could see where it is set up for a close election followed by a Santos win.

Hey Josh,
wasn't Kristin Chenoweth on The West Wing for a while? I am a fan of hers and was going to watch it at least while her character was on there but I never got around to it. What kind of part did she play...how long was she on?

Why would you watch what you refer to as "a poorly written show"? :wavey:
She's one of the staffers on the Santos campaign.
