My first attempt starting a chit-chat thread.
This Sunday, my 2nd favorite singer, the great Dolly Parton is playing the Strictly Bluegrass festival (annual free festival held in Golden Gate Park) and I can't wait!!
This will be my 3rd time seeing her, having seen the incredible "Halos and Horns" tour at the House of Blues in West Hollywood, and the disappointing lip-synched "Hello, I'm Dolly" tour in San Jose last December.
Emmylou Harris is also on the bill Sunday, so I'm hoping for some duets!
All this for free.......
Any Dolly fans out there?

I am a big Dolly fan too. I was at that House of Blues show ! I may go see her this Friday, but haven't got tx yet. I also saw her on White Limozeen, and a few others. My memory fails me...

I was at that House of Blues show !
And so was Ru Paul! That was hands down one of the best concerts I've ever seen.

She's my favorite female country singer. Deanna is a huge fan of hers too...she'll probably post soon.
Miss Dolly is awesome and I grew up listening to her. Watched her show in the late 80's (wasn't it?). Try to watch Smokey Mountain Christmas every year. My favorite song is Here You Come Again. Never have seen her live though. :(
She and Stevie have a few things in common too.

I love her too. A coworkers brother has been one of her fiddle players for some time now. I hear she's a wonderful lady to be around and work for. I would love to see her live. I grew up listening to her, too....

Might be a better idea just to fly out to San Francisco this weekend. We're having glorious weather.

I think it's very cool that she's recording these covers with some of the original players.
Like Roger McGuinn, Mary Hopkin, and Judy Collins.
I also think Nickel Creek are a pretty cool band.

I saw her last November on the "Hello, I'm Dolly" tour. I didn't notice any lip synching, but she's just probably really good at hiding it at this point in her career. Live or not, she rocked. She was so genuine and appreciative that everyone still came out and saw her. "Coat of Many Colors" live was very sweet and touching, and her cover of "Imagine" brought everybody to tears. Can't wait to hear it on the new cd!

I saw her E! True Hollywood Story a few months back. What a woman! I have mad respect for her. She came from a really rough background and worked her way to the top.
I love her approach to aging:
If it sags, drags, or bags, she gets it tucked, plucked, or sucked.
I love her song "Peace Train". I have a bunch of dance remixes of it.

She didn't lip synch on all numbers, but did admit doing it on some of the songs. She does it more to protect her voice, which is prone to going out when she performs often.
In the San Jose show, it seemed like she lipped the first half, live the second half, and clearly lip synched "Hello God". She clearly sang "Little Sparrow" live, which I thought was the highlight.
I agree, her version of "Imagine" gave me goosebumps, and she's a total joy to watch perform. Such a humble and funny woman.

Huh? I thought he was Yusuf Islam, and I thought he retired.

Good question. Perhaps she is singing over his original vocal tracks, similiar to Natalie Cole singing with her dead father, Nat King Cole.
Or maybe he wanted a peep at Dolly's hooters.

He was on tour recently too, so support his very best of CD as Yusuf Islam.
He's also on the FBI "watch list" for any flights.
