I just listened to this last night for the first time in a long time, and man is this a great compilation! I had forgotten. Drifting, Worried Dream, Rambling Pony No. 2... truly great stuff. And when the one CD version has SGGTHKIT as a bonus track, it really can't be beat.

Christine had FIVE songs on "Time" and Lindsey sang backing vocals on "Nothing Without You." So, obviously you've never actually heard the album, yet feel qualified to make a judgement about it that isn't really based on anything. Furthermore, using your logic, "Then Play On" isn't a Fleetwood Mac album, yet a lot of fans consider it an essential Fleetwood Mac album that features what could be argued to be Fleetwood Mac's signature song ("Oh Well").

Erm...Sorry?Don't worry about it, John. We can't all know everything there is to know about every incarnation of Fleetwood Mac right out of the gate. And being that you're 14 years old, I imagine you haven't had much of a chance to explore FM's history.

But definitely do yourself a favor, and, as time and money allow, explore their other albums.
Start with 'Time'... Even though it's missing Stevie and Lindsey (aside from his brief guest appearance), it does feature some fantastic Christine tunes, and several other great tunes as well.

Its fine, man. I did judge what I didn't know. I'm very much in to the Peter Green Jeremy Spencer stuff, and aware of the history of the band. I just tend to consider Fleetwood Mac to be like, three different bands. Bluesy Fleetwood Mac, That Transitional (Christine Jeremy Spencer) Fleetwood Mac, Lindsey/Stevie Fleetwood Mac, and after the huge popularity that was received by the Buckingham Nicks Mcvie group, I think that "Time" was sort of a CD that seemed from the outside like it wouldn't be as good in comparison. I just don't want to have my mom call "mean old Mr. MacD's" parents... :laugh:
And you forgot one of my favorites, Bob Welch.
See, you really can't call yourself a fan of the BAND Fleetwood Mac, if you only care for it with one or two people in it. It's an evolving entity, that existed a long time before that ditzy, spinning one entered the picture. AND, those of us that like several different incarnations of the band take exception with the other member's exclusion.
You want the best FM album? Go buy yourself Mystery To Me. And Bob Welch looks mighty fine twirling in Chiffon. ;)

Christine had FIVE songs on "Time" and Lindsey sang backing vocals on "Nothing Without You." So, obviously you've never actually heard the album, yet feel qualified to make a judgement about it that isn't really based on anything. Furthermore, using your logic, "Then Play On" isn't a Fleetwood Mac album, yet a lot of fans consider it an essential Fleetwood Mac album that features what could be argued to be Fleetwood Mac's signature song ("Oh Well").

Good christ. How heinous it is for someone not to have listened to "Time" because the lack of the Rumours lineup on that particular record turned them off. :rolleyes: Flog him now!

That's not the point. I don't have an issue with people not having listened to "Time" because Stevie wasn't on the album. There are many Stevie fans who only listen to the album on which she appears. The same is true of Lindsey fans. I DO have an issue with people offering a review of that album when they obviously haven't listened to it, and a really big issue with people saying that it's not Fleetwood Mac because Stevie and Lidnsey weren't on it. Gee, somebody better tell Peter Green that his stuff wasn't really Fleetwood Mac. :rolleyes:

OTOH, she has a track record of making crap records. Fleetwood Mac has a track record of making good music with a "revolving door" of singers/songwriters. So, again, to jump to the conclusion that a Fleetwood Mac album is going to suck because so-and-so isn't on it really ignores the band's history. If all fans had that attitude from the gitgo, they wouldn't have made it through "Kiln House," far less ever making it to the "Rumours" band.

Personally, I'd take "Time" over "Mirage" any day. But then, I'm of the ilk that Fleetwood Mac hasn't released a great album since "Tusk." I think SYW had the most potential, but it still fell short. IMO, the albums since "Tusk" have all had good songs, but were just not great records.

Personally, I'd take "Time" over "Mirage" any day.They both please the ear, thanks to Richie Dashut, & they both have ordinary, blandly acceptable pop songs. But Mirage edges out Time in terms of constructionist ideation.

Well, obviously. But, then, they went into "Mirage" knowing who was actually in the band AND it was their fourth album together, and the third with the same co-producers. They had the working releationship, and were sensitized to each other's stylings. With "Time," the band was having a bit of an identity crisis. The band began recording as one collective, then toured as another collective, and finally released a product as yet another collective. Throughout this rather odd process, many things that weren't planned began to devolp within the band. So what started out as one concept turned into another and yet another, and eventually became three or four different concepts thrown together at once under one moniker.

I'm not objective enough to pick favorites. (I've been a huge fan for too long) So my picks are a little less organized - sorry.

Buckingham Nicks:
Perfection from the first note to the last.

Fleetwood Mac:
I love the whole album.
Hated I'm So Afraid when it came out, love it now.
Love the creamy rich sound of Keith Olson's production on this album

Rumours:
Hated Don't Stop when it came out, still hate it today.
It's always been the only Fleetwood Mac song I've always not liked.
Hated Oh Daddy when it came out, today it might be my favorite song on Rumours. Love the rest. I think Dreams is quite possibly the best song the band has ever recorded.
Loving Second Hand News and I Don't Want to Know more then ever these days.

Tusk:
Loved the whole album when it came out. Still love it today.

The cover art indicates just how band the production is. Which is too bad, because there are some good songs hidden beneath the awful 80's sound.

Love Stevie's voice on Street Angel but somehow the cd disappeared from my collection - kind of like recycled produce bags from my kitchen...

I tend to always love Stevie's title tracks and the rest of her records are spotty. When it was released, Wild Heart blew me away.
When I first heard the title track, I remember thinking it was the best thing Stevie had ever recorded up til then. I wish she would push herself that way again - it was really exciting hearing that record when it was new.
Although I don't think I ever have to hear Stand Back again. That song brought down the FM shows due to its unappologetic cheesiness.

Chris's solo records leave me puzzled. She is so much more talented then
the work on those albums would leave one to believe.
