Hey folks. Do I look tanned? I just moved to LA from Austin. Like totally. And thank you, Livia, for gracing us with your presence at my farewell shindig. :wavey:
Anywho, if there are any fellow Ledgies out in La La Land, it would be, like, totally awesome to meet up. Hang ten....ummm....cowabunga, and all that rad stuff.

I have a friend (and a fellow Stevie fan) who moved from Austin to Houston to (just last week) to Los Angeles. He likes big, fast-paced cities. Me...not so much. What did you move out there for?

Welcome to the greatest city in the country. It's not like anywhere else.
You'll never be bored. You'll have a ton of fun. The mountains are great for hiking. The ocean is beautiful. The desert is spectacular. The live music is great. Go to Largo on a Friday night to see Jon Brion (and often Benmont Tench). Check out a show at the Troubador. Eat lots of great food. Enjoy the weather. Hike up Temescal Canyon. Be on the look out for Lindsey Buckingham...

LA? Great? Are you sure we're talking about the same city?
I don't really like it here, but I can see how others might. I've just lived here my whole life and it's getting quite boring.

New York and San Francisco are cities and for all their flaws great cities .El Lay is more like a collection of endless .poorly planned suburbs with really horrific air quality .and kind of plastic as well.

If your gay and horny lol, this is the easiest city to get laid in lol.
What I love about LA is you can have a kickass Friday/Sat night out on the town any Sunday, Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs night of the week. Theres always something going on somewhere.
Well I dont feel like I actually live in "LA". I live in the Tarzana hills in the valley. Im one of the 5 people in world that actually likes living out here in the valley :).

I am sooooo jealous of all you California dwellers! I lived there for a year a loooong time ago (Berkeley) and have been back - and still love it. I would love to live back there some day... LA, San Fran, wherever.
But maybe I'll wait til Arnold is done being governor!

Berkeley is way better than San Fran. It's warmer, there's more trees and nature, and lots of it has a "neighborhoody" feel. In fact, every neighborhood you go around is pretty cool. Good bike riding "city", too. And, of course, always the gorgeous green hills in the backround. I can see them when I look out my door. And, some lucky people actually live up there!!!
Why did you live here?

Don't diss my SF!! Hehe. I was born and raised in SF and yes, you pointed out the very best of Berkeley. But nothing compares to the beauty of the city of SF. All the perks...easy to get around, no need to drive or own a car, diverse architecture, great clubs, moody weather/mysterious fog.
I'm in LA now (3 years) and how I do miss my SF.

er..okay...Berkeley has those same perks. Except, I guess, with less "beauty of the city"? Which, to me, means more buildings. Berkeley's naturefullness is preferable to me. So is it's smallerness. Great clubs? probably. They're often far apart, though. But you're probably right about that. All we have are "great bars". However, they're all pretty much right next to each other.... :p
"moody weather, mysterious fog" - yep, we have that, it's just less moody, windy, and mysterious.
Didn't mean to Diss, I just don't like SF that much. From looking at other cities, though, it definitely is one of the prettier ones. :xoxo:
It's so beautiful here right now, clear, sunny, 72 degrees....what the hell am I doing in here?! Gotta go! *To be fair, I just woke up at 11:30*

Oh me too. Got up late. I love Tilden park. My dad would always take me to the steam engine. What a great ride. So gorgeous.
And the independent book stores in Berkeley rule. Is Dark Carnival still around?

I think so - was it up towards college ave, but past it? closer to piedmont? there's one like that up there - forgot the name. I live way down on Shattuck... :p
There's lots of other independent bookstores, though.
When I had my car I loved hiking in Tilden. And swimming in that pond.

Berkeley is a great place, because you can ride your bike everywhere, and North Berkeley is especially great: I mean, Cheese board - nothing beats that!
I grew up in LA, spent 17 years living in the City (SF), and I worked for a couple years in Berkeley. They all have some pretty great things aobut them. I live near Santa Cruz now, and I am missing San Francisco quite a bit!
I thought Dark Carnival closed - couldn't find it last time I looked. Change of Hobbit is still there. There used to be a Change of Hobbit in Santa Monica, also.
LA has some great bookstores, but they are spread out, like everything else: Midnight Special (I think that is still around), BookSoup, Either/Or (oops, that's gone)
For live music, you can see some awesome shows at McCabes Guitar shop. The live music scene really feel apart in SF a while back, but it is starting to come back.

Oh my God.... you're all making me SO nostalgic.
Amber, I lived there for a year when my dad was on sabbatical. He taught at UCB, and we lived in this beatiful house in the Hills. It was one of the greatest years of my life.
Tilden Park... I used to love going walking there with my mother and my dog. We'd go all the time, even in the pouring down rain. The Cheese Board was one of my favourite shops (oh, the SMELL! Pure heaven). Telegraph Avenue. Strawberry Canyon Pool. The carousel - was that in Tilden, too? I can't remember. We also used to go to some great restaurants - I doubt they're still around. Reza's Pizza was one. Bott's ice cream (oh my God, it was good. I always had bittersweet chocolate). And there were a few Mexican and Chinese restaurants we went to, as well... but their names are escaping me...
*sigh*

I'm starting grad school at UCLA to get my masters in Public Policy. Working full time sucked, so I'm trying the student thing again. Mind me asking who moved out here last month? I know a few peeps who made the move...would be a small world if we both knew of one.
And sorry David...I don't think you want me singing for your project. lol But thanks for the offer!
